Chapter 365: Chapter 365 Zhane Wanting To Hit Dave
Dave cast a pitiful look at Hera, his eyes welling up as if on cue, trying to make his act more dramatic and earn her sympathy. He wanted her to see how he was always the butt of jokes among his friends, hoping to highlight how much they bullied him.
And he saw this as an opportunity to get closer to Hera, especially now that Rafael was making significant progress and transforming in unexpected ways. Dave was determined not to be the last in ranking among the six of them, feeling increasingly desperate. Previously, he had been somewhat complacent, thinking Rafael’s position at the bottom made him the least favored or most disliked. But now, Rafael’s dramatic turnaround had shifted the dynamics, and Dave was anxious not to be left behind.
If the other four made their moves and managed to get closer to Hera—especially since they hadn’t left her with a bad first impression—Dave’s position as the least favored would be firmly established, and he was determined to avoid that. So, he decided to weaponize his shamelessness, using it as a tool to get closer to Hera, no matter the cost.
Seeing Dave’s pitiful act, Hera felt a twinge of unease, even though she recognized it as a performance. She stopped laughing and gently patted Dave’s head to offer some consolation. Despite knowing Dave’s antics were often exaggerated, she understood that his laid-back demeanor and lack of serious goals made him the group’s clown, and he wasn’t always taken seriously by his friends.
Inside his head, Dave was in a frenzy: ‘Shit! Leo’s coquettish tactics are actually working? No wonder Hera has a soft spot for him—he must have known all along!’ Despite this realization, he maintained his pitiful facade in front of Hera, rubbing his head against her hand with the eagerness of a puppy begging for affection.
Zhane couldn’t stand Dave’s over-the-top performance for long and quickly averted his gaze. Even with his usual calm and restrained demeanor, he felt a strong urge to kick Dave off his horse right then and there.
“Sweetheart, how about we take a lap together?” Dave coaxed, his amethyst eyes gleaming with a mischievous glint.
“Hera, you don’t need to indulge his whims,” Zhane interjected, casting a sharp glance at Dave to remind him to behave and not cause trouble for Hera. Despite Zhane’s intervention, Dave stubbornly persisted, looking at Hera with a pleading expression.
Hera wasn’t sure what Dave was up to, but if she wanted to find out, she’d have to play along with his game. Besides, she had been planning to take a lap before they arrived, so she wasn’t missing out on anything.
“Only running a lap?” Hera asked, raising an eyebrow with a challenging look. Dave’s eyes sparkled with delight as his lips curved into a toothy grin, clearly pleased that Hera was playing along.
“How about a bet then?” Dave proposed, his smile stretching from ear to ear, looking every bit the cunning fox he was.
Zhane, on the other hand, clenched his fist, struggling to contain his frustration as he watched Dave’s antics and was having the urge to hit Dave. He could see right through Dave’s schemes, knowing that Dave was clearly trying to target Hera with his latest ploy. Given Dave’s recent actions and comments in their group chat, it was evident that he was trying to trap Hera and manipulate the situation to his advantage.
Despite recognizing the trap, Hera willingly stepped into it to uncover Dave’s true intentions. Meanwhile, the people trailing behind Dave and Zhane had moved closer, their expressions amiable as they tried to join the conversation and observe what was unfolding.
“What are you all up to?” the Korean Dignitary inquired, his secretary and other companions drawing closer as they awaited Hera, Zhane, and Dave’s response. Meanwhile, Dave pretended not to hear, feigning deep contemplation as he waited for Hera to respond to his proposal.
Hera nodded in agreement. In less than a month, she had already been involved in several bets with the male leads, accumulating both wins and losses. She still owed Xavier two wishes, and even if she lost to Dave, she wondered what he could possibly ask for from their bet.
Little did Hera know, Dave was already plotting to use the bet as a way to gain exclusive time with her. If he won, he planned to leverage the wishes to ensure she would spend more time with him while barring the others.
The moment Hera nodded, Dave’s smile widened even further. “How about we do it like you and Xavier did at the race track during the Variety Show? The winner gets three wishes, and the loser has to fulfill them?”
Hera realized Dave’s game plan immediately, but rather than backing down, she felt a surge of defiance. Dave’s overconfidence, as if he was already counting his victory before the race had even started, grated on her pride. It felt like he was underestimating her, and although she wasn’t sure of the extent of Dave’s horsemanship skills, she wasn’t about to let that intimidate her.
In reality, Dave’s motivation wasn’t just about winning the bet; he also wanted to impress Hera and show off his skills, hoping to change her perception of him just as Rafael had managed to do. However, what Dave didn’t realize was that, instead of improving his standing, he was only digging himself into a deeper hole.
Zhane, observing from the sidelines, could only shake his head in disbelief. He felt a pang of pity for Dave’s impatience and thoughtlessness. It made him question where Dave’s usually sharp mind had gone whenever Hera was involved. Zhane began to doubt Dave’s competence, wondering if perhaps his brain had been left behind or if it had been devoured by stray dogs.
In the end, Zhane took on the role of officiator, standing by as Hera and Dave raced across the track. Dave, ever the smug and impatient who has never learned his lesson, was so eager to win that he bolted the moment Zhane gave the signal. His hasty start allowed him to surge ahead, leaving Hera in the dust.
As Dave surged ahead, Hera was still adjusting to her horse, trying to gauge its speed and stamina. Once she felt more comfortable, she urged her horse to increase its speed and set off in pursuit of Dave.
“Giddyup!”
With only one lap to determine the outcome of the bet, Hera knew she had to push her horse to its limits as Dave reached the halfway point. However, catching up was challenging, as Dave seemed to have a deep familiarity with his horse. Hera deduced that it was either his favorite mount or one he had owned and ridden for a long time.
His deep understanding of his horse allowed him to maintain his pace through more than half of the track. However, Hera was no stranger to competition; her victory in the national equestrian championships with Diamond wasn’t due to luck. Determined not to give Dave any more opportunities, she leaned closer to her horse, urging it to take long, powerful strides. Its hooves pounded the track with a spring-like energy, propelling them forward with increasing speed.
Before long, Hera overtook Dave and reached the finish line, where Zhane stood with a warm, gentle smile. His expression resembled a loving partner eagerly awaiting their spouse’s return—adorably cute and heartwarming.
