Chapter 380: Chapter 380 Zhane and Leo Working Together
As soon as Hera unlocked her car, Dave recognized it immediately. The limited edition Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail’s headlights blinked on, causing him to stop in his tracks. He knew that this exclusive model was valued at $30 million—a price tag so high that not even Athena, Hera’s well-connected friend, could acquire it through her uncle, a distributor of rare cars. This model could only be reserved directly from the manufacturer, well before its public release.
Dave knew there were only three of these cars in existence worldwide. Such exclusivity was reserved for those who were exceptionally well-connected or leaders in their respective fields. As far as he was aware, the only other person in their country who owned one was the Avery family. He had witnessed the car being transported through customs, confirming its arrival firsthand.
Due to Dave’s hesitation, Zhane, who was too exhausted and focused solely on Hera, didn’t even notice the high-end car. Instead, he headed straight to where Hera was and climbed into her car without a second thought. This simple act left Dave seething inwardly, feeling frustrated and defeated for missing out yet again.
Refusing to admit defeat, Dave steeled himself and headed towards Hera’s car. He was determined to climb in and join her. However, as he got closer, he realized that aside from the passenger seat, there was no space for him to sit. His frustration flared, his face twisting in anger. It seemed like he was always just on the verge of getting close to Hera, only to be thwarted at every turn—much like his previous encounter with Leo.
Only then did Zhane notice Dave standing awkwardly beside the car. Glancing up from his seat, Zhane called out, “Dave, if you don’t get back to your car now, we’ll leave you behind.” Zhane meant it as a friendly reminder, but he unwittingly struck a sore spot for Dave. The reminder only added to Dave’s frustration. Dave wanted to retort, but Hera caught the subtle pout on his face, which made him look like he was being unfairly left out and bullied.
Hera could immediately understand why Dave was reacting this way. She offered a simple explanation: “Zhane looks exhausted; he must have had a long day yesterday with multiple surgeries. I offered him a ride so he could rest a bit while we head to the Golden Dragon Pavilion.”
It wasn’t until Hera explained the situation that Zhane understood why Dave was acting out. A wide grin spread across Zhane’s face as he settled comfortably into his seat, relishing the chance to annoy Dave a bit more. Despite his exhaustion, it wasn’t every day they got to see the mischievous and playful Dave feeling put out. Zhane decided to seize the opportunity to tease him, enjoying the playful turn of events.
Sure enough, Dave’s face twisted in frustration as he noticed Zhane subtly provoking him. Hera, however, was unaware of the underlying tension and saw nothing wrong. Dave wanted to retaliate but restrained himself, recognizing that it was unusual for Zhane to go out of his way to annoy anyone. Zhane added with a grin, “Well then, we’ll meet you at the Golden Dragon Pavilion.” He waved casually at Dave before Hera raised the roof of her car to shield them from the sun, allowing Zhane to settle in comfortably for the drive back.
Left behind, Dave felt a surge of frustration and considered running after the car to say something, but he was at a loss for words. He felt utterly defeated by Zhane, who had played the pitiful role so convincingly in front of Hera. Dave was convinced that Zhane had nothing to do with anything yesterday—he had merely been working on his scheme with Leo regarding the Lennons. ‘When did Zhane become such a master of pretense? Did he pick up his acting skills from that prick Leo?’ Dave fumed silently to himself.
Dave was ready to chase after them, shouting, “FUCK!!!” as he realized he was too late. Frustrated, he turned and ran back, only now noticing that his car was parked on the opposite side of the parking lot. He had to make a quick detour through the lobby to cut across to Parking B and retrieve his vehicle.
Dave sprinted for a full five minutes to reach his car, nearly diving into the driver’s seat as he flung open the door. Panting heavily, he settled into the seat, quickly starting the engine and revving it a few times before speeding out of the parking lot. However, Hera and the others were already well ahead, and Hera focused on driving as smoothly as possible to avoid disturbing the sleeping Zhane.
As soon as Hera started driving out of the racecourse, Zhane had already fallen asleep in his seat. Although he hadn’t been occupied with surgeries the previous day, he and Leo had been deeply engrossed in planning their strategy to hit the Lennons hard. Zhane hadn’t mentioned this to Hera, as he and Leo had decided to keep their plans secret for now, not wanting to add to her stress or worry.
While both Leo and Zhane were confident that their scheme would succeed, they knew better than to count their chickens before they hatched. They didn’t want to burden Hera with their plans, preferring to keep her unaware of the intricacies. Zhane, in particular, had a heavier load, as he was responsible for setting up everything on his end to ensure the Lennons would fall for the trap. In contrast, Leo’s role was primarily to oversee the scheme and coordinate with the Avery family, preparing fallback measures and changing collaborators if needed.
Zhane and Leo hadn’t anticipated how seamlessly they would work together. Their collaboration was so effective that they managed to complete the entire planning and trap by late into the night. Now, all that remained was to wait for Luke to deliver on his promise to find a more cheaper and problematic version of the herbs. Once the Lennons saw the offer, it would bait them into the trap, allowing the plan to proceed as intended.
Despite their hostility toward Leo, Zhane had to acknowledge that Leo was exceptionally skilled at his work. His scheming mind was on par with, if not surpassing, that of his most cunning friends, including Dave and the ruthless Rafael.
As Hera’s scent lingered in the car, Zhane felt an unexpected sense of comfort as soon as she began driving away from the racecourse. The soothing fragrance seemed to lull him into a deep sense of relaxation, making it easy for him to drift off to sleep. Before long, a gentle and persistent motion rocked him slightly back and forth, trying to wake him. Instead of rousing him, it only deepened his sense of ease, drawing him further into a peaceful slumber.
As Hera pulled up to the front of the Golden Dragon Pavilion, she noticed the racecourse manager’s car behind her, followed by Bry’s father’s truck. Not wanting to hold up the valet or cause a longer queue of cars, Hera decided to wake Zhane from his sleep. Despite her efforts, he remained deeply unconscious. “Zhane, wake up, we’ve arrived,” she said gently, continuing to rock him softly in an attempt to rouse him.
