Chapter 387: Chapter 387 When She Decided To Be Cruel
This was Hera’s best opportunity because Tyler was unaware that she was the heiress of the Avery family. All he knew was that the Avery family was reacting strongly to his actions on their turf and saw it as a direct challenge to their authority. In response, he would likely interpret the targeting of his sister as a deliberate retaliation.
This would be enough to enrage Tyler and wound his fragile ego. If you’re wondering when Hera decided to take this approach, it was actually just this morning. Initially, her plan was much simpler—more of a waiting game, a battle of attrition with the Lennons, anticipating their next move.
She had been waiting for the male leads to take action, confident they wouldn’t sit idly by after the Lennons involved her in the drugging incident. However, when a perfect opportunity presented itself—practically landing in her lap—why not take advantage of it? And that opportunity was named Sienna.
Tyler knew he had messed up and was likely weighing his options on how to handle the situation with the Avery family. While everyone knew the Averys weren’t the type of conglomerate to seek petty revenge, that didn’t mean they could be easily pushed around. If they were that vulnerable, they would have crumbled long ago after her parents passed away.
Tyler assumed that if he lay low for a while, the Averys would let the matter slide since they hadn’t taken any action against him or his family yet. But oh, how wrong he was. Right now, Hera’s inner villainess was reveling in the chaos as she stood behind Zhane and Dave, protected by them, while Sienna fumed hysterically, glaring at her like a demon straight out of the depths of hell. Meanwhile, Claire had collapsed to the floor, her eyes vacant, completely defeated.
“It’s over. My father will kill me,” Claire mumbled under her breath, barely audible to herself. She looked like she was on the verge of losing it, but Hera felt no sympathy. Claire had been dragged into this alongside Sienna, and if Hera didn’t deal with them now, they’d surely return with their shady schemes. Hera wanted to send Claire packing—preferably out of the country—until the whole storyline played out.
Hera wasn’t heartless enough to leave them completely high and dry. Despite Claire’s attempts to undermine her, it didn’t warrant wishing her dead. Hera had already arranged for her aide overseas to assist the White family in their new ventures, provided they promised to keep Claire out of trouble and reeducate her without harm. In return, the Whites would sign a vassal agreement with the Avery family, pledging their support whenever the Avery called upon them—no matter the terms.
The reason Hera intervened was because she’d heard that Claire had been severely beaten and hospitalized—by none other than her own father. His fury stemmed from Claire getting his Golden Dragon Pavilion membership revoked, which Hera understood was a crucial source of his income. While his reaction was extreme and out of line, Hera couldn’t shake a sense of responsibility, knowing she had played a role in the incident.
Hera saw this as a form of compensation, a way to save Claire from being dragged into the storyline and ultimately ending up as cannon fodder—possibly even dying for trivial reasons that wouldn’t even be worth mentioning in the novel.
However, if Claire persisted in her senseless attacks, Hera wouldn’t hesitate to defend herself. She wasn’t a saint, and she certainly wouldn’t stand by and let anyone walk over or harm her.
Hera took a deep breath, locking her gaze on Sienna’s eyes to further provoke her. She aimed to escalate the confrontation, turning this from mere drama into a calculated hunt. It was time for her to go after her prey.
Seeing Hera’s taunting smirk, Sienna’s eyes widened in fury. She roared, “It’s you, isn’t it?! You’re spewing nonsense! Why would the Avery Family blacklist me from all their establishments if you’re the only one I’ve clashed with? Don’t tell me—you’re Old Master Avery’s sugar baby?” Her maniacal laughter grated on Hera’s patience and deeply displeased Gerald, Zhane, and Dave.
Dave gritted his teeth, his frustration barely contained as Sienna spewed nonsense about Hera. Meanwhile, Zhane, ever the gentleman, glared at Sienna with a piercing intensity. Though his thoughts remained unreadable, his gaze made it clear that he viewed her as a hateful enemy.
Hera remained unfazed. “Oh, didn’t you know? Just a week ago, your brother tried to drug the sole heiress of the Lowery and Jackson families right on Avery turf. Not only did he tarnish the flawless reputation of the Dragon Palace Hotel, the only seven-star establishment in the country, but he also caused reputational damage that could cost $50 billion in compensation.”
With Hera’s revelation, Claire would soon realize that her blacklist was not solely due to her own missteps but rather because of her association with Sienna. Claire would start to understand that her exclusion from Avery establishments stemmed from her connection to Sienna. The reason the other girl, an exchange student from Korea, wasn’t affected was because she was not a local and thus beyond the Avery’s jurisdiction. Banning her from using their facilities would lead to a national dispute, especially since she was the granddaughter of a Korean dignitary, and the Avery would need a strong justification to avoid diplomatic complications.
Claire only became the unlucky one because of her wrong association, so, Hera would be clear off of her hatred and instead would focus her hatred on Sienna now for dragging her down with her.
“No!!! You’re just making up lies and slandering my brother!” Sienna growled, her eyes blazing with fury. The businessmen in the lobby exchanged uneasy glances; if Hera’s claims were true, it would spark a major dispute, forcing them to choose sides in what could become a significant clan conflict.
This was also Hera’s strategy to compel the families of the heiresses Tyler was blackmailing to choose a side. Would they align with a rising family like the Lennons, who had yet to make a significant breakthrough and relied heavily on their fragile connections, or would they side with a longstanding conglomerate with deep-rooted influence and power?
As the saying goes, one must choose their battles wisely to ensure a long and successful life. Most influential families in their circles prioritize their collective interests over individual concerns. Therefore, when faced with a choice between supporting a single family member or advancing the interests of the entire clan, they will undoubtedly prioritize the clan’s welfare and discard the individual baggage.
Although it was harsh of Hera to drive them to the brink, this was the only way to persuade the heiresses under Tyler’s control to align themselves with the Avery family. Even if they feared that their scandals might be exposed and tarnish their reputations, it was a far better alternative than being utterly forsaken by their entire clan.
Besides, Gerald had already approached those heiresses with a deal, but their fear of public humiliation had made them hesitant. Now, with mounting pressure from their own families, they would be forced to make a decisive choice. Additionally, this incident would likely alienate the Lennons from the upper crust, driving Tyler to become even more desperate in his actions.
