Chapter 392: Chapter 392 HeraIsMySister
Everyone around felt a wave of embarrassment wash over them. The girl’s words rang true—they hadn’t considered Hera’s feelings at all. They had surrounded her, interrupted her constantly, and even intruded on her lunch breaks, all just to be near her and catch a closer glimpse. Now, the realization of their thoughtlessness settled uncomfortably in the air.
Now that someone had pointed it out, the true fans felt too embarrassed to even look at Hera, let alone approach her. They quietly backed off, realizing how inconsiderate they’d been. On the other hand, those pretending to be her fans, merely using Hera’s popularity for their own gain, reacted differently.
Their faces twisted in frustration and embarrassment, but instead of reflecting on their actions, they glared at Hera, silently blaming her for the situation. In their minds, it wasn’t their fault—they believed Hera should do more, should cater to them better, treating her as if she owed them everything, as though she was a servant to her fanbase, which was far from the truth.
“By the way, where did you come from, and why are you here?” Hera asked the little girl curiously as they walked briskly down the hallway toward her classroom. The girl, who had been targeting everyone with sharp remarks, seemed to have appeared out of nowhere, and Hera couldn’t help but wonder about her sudden presence.
The girl, who had been scowling at nearly everyone, turned to Hera with a complete shift in expression. Her earlier hostility vanished, replaced by wide, adoring eyes that sparkled with admiration. “Sister Hera!” she exclaimed, her tone suddenly enthusiastic. “I have a cousin who studies here too, though in a different department. I came to drop off some things from my aunt for her, and once I was done with that errand, I thought I’d take a peek at my idol—you!” She beamed before continuing.
“But then, I saw how these people were treating you with such disrespect. Honestly, I wasn’t planning to interfere. I know you’re more than capable of handling things on your own, probably in ways they wouldn’t expect.” She giggled before her expression sobered a little. “But, I figured since they’re your fans, it might be harder for you to push back without getting criticized. And, well, since I had time to spare, I figured I’d jump in and handle it for you.” The girl chattered away with a carefree attitude, clearly pleased with herself.
“Honestly, these people just don’t know when to stop unless you put them in their place,” the girl huffed, puffing up her cheeks like a chipmunk in frustration. She shot a sharp glare at the nearest students, then dramatically rolled her eyes.
Without waiting for a response, she grabbed Hera’s hand and began leading her toward the classroom. “I’ll be your bodyguard today!” she declared with excitement. “Being with you is literally a dream come true!” She giggled happily, nearly bouncing on her heels as she clung to Hera’s hand, her enthusiasm bubbling over.
Hera found the girl’s straightforwardness endearing and couldn’t help but think she resembled a miniature version of Athena, though Athena’s sharp tongue was far more cutting. Hera even had the urge to pinch the girl’s cheeks, but she resisted, knowing it would be too much for their first meeting—not to mention, there wasn’t time to linger. Still, the girl’s bubbly energy brought a small smile to Hera’s face as they hurried along.
When the girl successfully escorted Hera to her next class—Finance, where Professor Fletcher was the guest speaker—she refused to leave and plopped herself down beside Hera, determined to shield her from fans who didn’t seem to understand the concept of personal space. Hera, knowing Professor Fletcher well, smiled wryly and decided to ask, “Teacher, would it be alright if my sister sits in for today?”
Her tone was light, but the unspoken plea for understanding was clear. The girl looked at the professor with wide, innocent eyes, clearly eager to stay.
The girl looked at the professor with pleading, obedient eyes that seemed to say, “Pretty please, I’m harmless and a good kid.” Hera couldn’t help but secretly chuckle at the girl’s antics. She had no idea how she ended up with a fan like this, but she was glad she did. The girl was truly adorable, and something about her made Hera feel an unexpected sense of closeness.
Professor Fletcher didn’t hesitate to allow the girl to stay. Not only was she quiet and adorable, but it was Hera who had made the request. He was well aware of Hera’s rising popularity and the challenges that came with it since she became an artist. Seeing someone so protective of her was a relief. With the girl by her side, Hera would be able to focus more on her studies without the constant distractions from people vying for her attention on campus.
It would be a disappointment if he couldn’t impart his knowledge and the meticulously prepared materials he had for Hera. The only reason he agreed to speak to this class was because of her. Speaking to juniors, especially sophomores, often felt like a waste of his time, as they were only beginning to scratch the surface of their major. True understanding of the material typically began in their junior year and deepened throughout their senior year.
But Hera was different. Her strong comprehension skills made teaching her enjoyable, so he was more than happy to grant this small favor. Anything that helped Hera stay focused in class was worth it to him.
As the class began, Hera listened attentively to the lecture, absorbing the informative material presented. The girl, on the other hand, struggled to keep her eyes open. Despite her efforts to stay awake for Hera’s sake, her eyelids grew heavy, and she began to nod off.
Just then, a gentle, warm hand rested on the back of her head and softly patted her, as if inviting her to rest. Without much hesitation, she allowed her head to rest on the table and soon fell asleep, comforted by the reassuring touch.
Professor Fletcher noticed the girl’s sudden drowsiness and the tender gesture from Hera, pausing briefly before resuming his lecture. He chose to overlook the situation, focusing instead on delivering the material. Hera’s classmates cast curious glances in her direction, but a stern look from the professor quickly silenced them. The troublemakers who had earlier caused a commotion also kept their distance, deterred by the professor’s authoritative glare.
Few were aware of Hera’s studies under Professor Fletcher, but those in the know wisely chose to stay out of it. It was common knowledge at the university that Professor Fletcher only accepted students with exceptional talent, and the fact that Hera was among them spoke volumes about her capabilities.
Moreover, Hera’s exceptional abilities were complemented by her easygoing nature and polite demeanor, which made her well-liked by those around her. She was respectful and kind, though she firmly dealt with troublemakers who crossed the line. This balance of kindness and assertiveness ensured a smooth lecture experience. Hera was pleased with the session, recognizing how the knowledge she gained would be invaluable for her future role in leading the Avery Consortium.
