Chapter 400: Chapter 400 Spending With Her Black Card
But then, another question crossed his mind: ‘How did Hera manage to get a Black Dragon Card?’ It was widely known in their circle how difficult it was to qualify for a card from the Dragon Empire Bank, given the limited number and the exclusive invitation process reserved only for the top echelon.
Now, more than ever, Zhane’s suspicion about Hera’s true identity grew. The Black Dragon Card wasn’t something that could be wielded by just anyone. It had advanced anti-theft features and could only be used by the cardholder, requiring a special card reader. Even the assistant was momentarily taken aback, but she received the card with both hands, maintaining the politeness expected for each client at the pagoda.
‘I’m relieved I didn’t offend this powerful person over a $98,000 stone. Even if they offered me more than a 10% commission for the sale, I wouldn’t have accepted it, even if Miss Goldsmith were to raise the price.’ The assistant thought as she stared at the Black Dragon Card with a mixture of emotions, not wanting to see the name on it, fearing the knowledge it might reveal.
She deftly turned the card over, noting that the back held no important codes like other cards might. Aside from the gold-engraved electronic signature of the owner, there was nothing else visible.
Hera noticed the girl’s quick thinking in turning the card over. She couldn’t help but smile, admiring the girl’s cautious and perceptive nature. With such an attitude, she was sure to achieve great things and avoid offending others—unless she became a target herself.
As Hera handed over the card, she noticed that her name, “Hera Avery,” was embossed in gold. Zhane was close enough to see it, but fortunately, the assistant had inadvertently covered her last name with her thumb and turned the card backward, keeping Hera’s personal information discreet.
Unlike Hera’s smile, Zhane’s curiosity was growing. He began to speculate about how, why, and when Hera had acquired such a prestigious card. Although he resisted jumping to conclusions, the questions gnawed at him, leaving him with a mix of unease and intrigue.
Despite his growing curiosity, Zhane managed to keep his composure, making sure not to reveal his intrigue to Hera. He was careful not to appear overly nosy, which might offend her. After a moment of consideration, he decided to set aside his questions, turned back to the girl, and offered her a polite smile.
“Miss, as you can see, even without me, my girlfriend still wants it and has decided to buy it.” Zhane adopted a carefree demeanor similar to Dave’s, casually shrugging his shoulders with a subtle hint of mockery, reminiscent of how Dave often nonchalantly dismisses things.
Truth be told, Zhane had already noticed the girl’s subtle sneer and her unspoken judgment of Hera, and it didn’t sit well with him. Hera was his date, and the girl’s disrespect extended not only to her but also to him. Regardless of the girl’s argument, she was clearly in the wrong, and Zhane and Hera’s responses were simply a reflection of that.
Zhane couldn’t help but smile as he stole a glance at Hera. He hadn’t anticipated that her carefree attitude stemmed from her ability to afford things on her own, even without his assistance. He had been prepared to cater to whatever Hera desired, including buying every stone on the second level if that was what she wanted.
Zhane thought to himself, ‘Why work so hard if I can’t even provide this level of luxury for my future wife?’ Yet again, Hera managed to surprise him. Meanwhile, Hera was equally taken aback by how effortlessly Zhane had adopted Dave’s casual mannerisms and actions. Despite his relaxed demeanor, his reprimand of the girl remained both noble and polite.
The girl, however, couldn’t shake the belief that Hera’s actions were a deliberate attempt to embarrass her. She assumed that the black card Hera was holding belonged to Zhane, as she hadn’t seen the name on it—only Hera handing it over.
Annoyed, she pursed her lips and snorted. Having heard much about Zhane Everett’s reputation as a gentleman, it wasn’t surprising to her that he would let Hera use his card to purchase whatever she wanted.
She thought that Hera seemed to be flaunting her status in response to the comments the girl had made earlier. As a result, each of the three people near her—Hera, Zhane, and the assistant—had their own thoughts, but all were focused on Hera and the situation unfolding around her.
It’s no wonder that Miss Goldsmith might think this way, given that Zhane and the other male leads all possess their own exclusive black cards. However, Hera’s Black Dragon Card is unique—it’s issued by the Dragon Empire Bank, a prestigious institution linked to her own Avery family. To qualify for this card, one must have a minimum of $100 billion in liquid assets deposited with the bank, reflecting its exclusivity and the substantial wealth required.
Only the first hundred individuals are eligible to receive these cards, each assigned a unique number. Hera’s card is number 1, reflecting her family’s prestigious status. After her parents’ passing, their cards were returned, and Hera inherited her father’s account. Her grandfather’s card is numbered 2, and her mother’s was number 3.
The card numbers also reflect the amount of wealth deposited in the bank and the people will be ranked according to the amount of assets they have there which signifies the number in their cards. Each cardholder is allocated a security safe, each as spacious as a hotel room. Many tycoons use these safes to store gold bars and other high-value assets that are not only immune to depreciation but are expected to appreciate over time.
Just like gold, which maintains its value over time compared to fluctuating currencies, precious gems and jewelry are also considered stable investments. It’s understandable if Miss Goldsmith was unfamiliar with the Black Dragon Card; many people regard it as more legend than reality due to its rarity. Even customer service professionals at major banks and other big companies, though trained on the subject, rarely encounter these elusive cards in person.
The assistant had to fetch the special card reader, which had been gathering dust in the office for ages, seldom used. She felt a mix of excitement and apprehension, as if she were holding a hot potato. Rushing back and forth, she quickly returned to Hera, determined to complete the transaction promptly and efficiently.
Hera received an authorization request on her phone and promptly approved it, marking her first transaction from that location. The card had no spending limits, allowing her to make purchases or transfers of any amount without requiring additional clearance. This flexibility made it a powerful tool for managing her finances with ease.
After completing the transaction, the assistant handed Hera’s card back with both hands, carefully keeping it facing backward to conceal her name. Delighted by the assistant’s handling of the situation, Hera decided to continue shopping and invited the girl to accompany her, appreciating her professionalism and the way she managed the transaction.
Seeing Hera pleased with her service, the assistant eagerly followed Hera and Zhane as they selected more stones from the second floor, deliberately ignoring the frustrated Miss Goldsmith, who was nursing a belly full of annoyance.
Before continuing their shopping, Hera asked Zhane to visit the stone master in the corner to have their purchase opened. Since it was her first time betting on stones, she was eager to see how her choice measured up.
