Chapter 556: Chapter 556 I Did
Liz slapped her thigh in exasperation upon hearing Hera’s comment about her exaggerating.
She flopped down onto the sofa in her office, her frustration evident.
“What are you talking about? I’m a jewelry designer, and I know this design could win first place in any competition—nationally, even internationally—with just a few tweaks. How is that exaggerating?” Liz nearly shouted into the phone.
Although Liz was a jewelry designer, she wasn’t considered outstanding. While she had won a few domestic and international awards, she was far from being labeled a genius.
She was hardworking with a keen eye for design, which allowed her to create pieces that followed trends.
However, the issue was that she didn’t have her own unique design path.
As both a designer and a businesswoman, she focused on what would sell, which meant most of her work was trend-driven.
While she occasionally created a unique piece or two, the majority of her designs played it safe.
Seeing a design that was truly unique—complex and ingenious, yet with a touch of amateurism only professionals would recognize—made it clear that the person behind the jewelry blueprints likely lacked formal training.
It was probably something they created for fun.
But if such raw talent existed, with a little guidance, their designs could improve dramatically and easily earn recognition in any competition.
After all, jewelry design is about creating something unique that captures the hearts of the consumers.
It’s about aspiration, and those who set their own trends are the ones who rise to the top of the industry.
Liz wanted to get acquainted with this potential future star, even offer them a position on her team.
As that person improved, her family’s company would rise with them, gaining free publicity along the way.
Not only would winning a competition or two under her company’s name elevate its status, but it would also boost the value of their jewelry.
Just the thought of it made Liz so excited that her eyes almost turned red as she eagerly awaited Hera’s response from the other end.
Hera, however, shyly rubbed the tip of her nose. “You’re praising me too much.”
That simple response from Hera left Liz stunned, her mind buzzing as if an explosion had gone off in her head. She could hardly comprehend what Hera had just said. “Wait, what did you just say? Are you telling me you designed these?”
Not wanting to keep it from Liz, Hera answered, “Well, it started as a hobby. My best friend was really into fashion—she had an amazing eye for style, whether it was clothes or jewelry.”
“But the thing is, she didn’t have the talent for jewelry design. In high school, we were both part of the drama club. She was always in charge of costumes because she had a knack for designing clothes.”
“But since we also needed jewelry for the costumes, and she couldn’t make it, she ended up asking me to do it. So, I taught myself and used some online tutorials on how to make simple pieces, and it just became a hobby over time.”
“Sometimes, when I have a bit of free time, I make them by hand, but I don’t want to waste too many jades since I’m still not that great at cutting them.”
“And I’m planning to give these to some important people, so I don’t want them to look poorly made if I cut the jade by hand. I can only rely on you for that. After all, they say it’s the thought that counts,” Hera said awkwardly, feeling her face heat up.
No one knew about her jewelry designing skills, except for Athena and a few members of their drama club.
Most people assumed that the jewelry she wore during performances was bought from somewhere else.
Her first attempt at making jewelry had been crooked and asymmetrical, but with Athena’s help, she started to get the hang of it.
They didn’t necessarily have to make everything by hand, but since she and Athena were supposed to be poor orphans, they couldn’t afford to buy expensive items, especially considering they were attending an international school where most of their classmates came from wealthy families.
While other students could pool money together to cover the cost of costumes and jewelry, that wasn’t an option for Hera and Athena.
So, they had to rely on themselves—buying the materials and making everything on their own.

Not only was it fun, but it felt like they were working in a creative workshop.
The two of them enjoyed discussing the overall theme and working together.
Seeing how much effort Athena put into making the clothes, Hera felt compelled to put in even more effort with the jewelry so that Athena wouldn’t have to carry the burden alone.
After all, Athena was only in the drama club because of her.
Although Athena always claimed that making costumes was a way to hone her skills in fashion design for her future, Hera knew that deep down, Athena was also supporting her with everything she had.
The fun they had during those days sparked Hera’s love for making and designing jewelry.
However, after she started working to support Alexi, she became so busy that she didn’t have much time to further develop her skills.
She only designed jewelry when inspiration struck, but she had already built a collection of designs on her hard drive, ranging from women’s to men’s pieces.
Even though she was passionate about designing, Hera still felt somewhat clueless about the intricacies of jewelry making—she had learned how to craft pieces, but not the techniques or history behind them.
As a result, even Liz could tell that her designs still had an amateurish quality.
“Woah! What the hell?!” Liz was speechless.
From what Hera had said, she could already piece it together—Hera had never received formal training and had only learned to make jewelry during high school.
“Hey, why don’t I mentor you a little?” Liz said excitedly. “I may not be the best, but I can definitely help you refine your skills, and together, we can make your designs even better!”
Her enthusiasm was palpable, as if she had just uncovered a hidden gem and couldn’t bear the thought of letting it be buried under dust and pebbles.
After all, there were plenty of jewelry designers out there, but most of them, like her, just followed trends.
It was rare to find someone like Hera, whose designs were truly unique—something that could captivate the public and draw attention to jewelry at a time when everyone was focused on fashion clothes.
The jewelry industry was being dominated by big brands, and smaller companies were being pushed into the shadows.
With this opportunity, Hera could help elevate those smaller brands and even change the industry.
“Ha ha ha, I don’t think I have the time,” Hera replied, though she was reluctant to let the opportunity slip away.
After all, she was the type of person who, even if she didn’t know how to do something, would seize any opportunity that came her way and figure it out later—just like how she had learned jewelry design.
Liz slapped her thigh again, her frustration evident. “How can this be? This is unacceptable!” She was fired up—she couldn’t let this gem slip away.
