Chapter 57: Chapter 57 Contract
For the first time in many busy years, Hera found herself with some leisure time to simply sit around and indulge in her phone. She spent her time watching various videos, ranging from cooking tutorials to DIY projects, relishing the opportunity to unwind and enjoy some well-deserved relaxation.
Engrossed in her entertainment, Hera lost track of time until Cindy returned to her side, delivering the news in a single breath. “Young Miss, Miss Athena was delighted to receive your gift just an hour after her playful banter with you. Mr. and Mrs. Lowry also send their regards and express their gratitude for the gift. They’ve extended an invitation for you to visit more often.”
Hera couldn’t help but be amused by Cindy’s rapid delivery of information and chuckled softly. “Noted.”
Hera continued watching videos until she was informed of the CEO of the UE’s arrival, prompting her to move to the living room to welcome him. With a warm smile, she greeted him, “Welcome! It’s good to see you again so soon.”
The CEO returned her smile. “Indeed, and I was eager to hear the details of today’s meeting. I must say, I’m delighted with your decision. You can count on me to do my utmost to assist you, Young Miss.” He extended his hand, and Hera reciprocated the gesture, shaking his hand firmly.
“Thank you for coming. Please, have a seat,” Hera gestured towards the couch as a servant began to serve snacks. “Would you like coffee, tea, or perhaps some freshly squeezed fruit juice?”
“Tea would be perfect, thank you, Young Miss,” he replied with a smile as he settled into his seat opposite Hera.
Hera politely instructed the servant to prepare chamomile tea for them, and the servant readily complied. Shortly after, steaming cups of chamomile tea were served, with Hera and the CEO of UE each receiving one.
In the center of the table sat a pot of chamomile tea, adding to the elegant setting.
Hera admired the gold-plated Red Rose Ceramic Vintage Tea set, its beauty matched only by its apparent expense. As she ran her fingers over the delicate surface, she couldn’t help but appreciate its exquisite craftsmanship. Taking a sip of her tea, she began, “Once again, I wanted to express my gratitude for giving me the opportunity to discuss what I needed.”
“Please, Young Miss, don’t be too formal with me. We are just hired workers here to cater to your every need. I genuinely enjoy what I do,” he said with a warm smile directed at Hera.
“I’m glad to hear that you enjoy your work, but I don’t see you as just a worker. To us, you and the others are part of our family,” Hera replied, her smile reflecting her sincerity.
His heart swelled at Hera’s words. It would be dishonest to say he wasn’t touched by her sentiment. At Avery, they were treated with care and respect, unlike at other companies where only numbers and results mattered. The emphasis on their happiness and mental well-being made him appreciate working for the Avery even more.
With a smile still lighting up her face after the flattery and heartfelt appreciation, Hera spoke up. “As you’ve heard, I’m eager to dip my toes into the entertainment industry, and I hope you can assist me with that. While I’m looking forward to having some fun, I don’t want to overshadow our other artists or receive special treatment. I prefer to be treated like any other artist in the company to avoid any jealousy.”
“May I ask, Young Miss, what motivated this desire to enter the entertainment industry?” he inquired.
“Well, I’ve always had a passion for acting, even back in high school, and now feels like the perfect time to explore it further before fully assuming my responsibilities from my grandfather. Additionally, there are certain matters I need to attend to while I’m there. Although I can’t reveal all the details, I can assure you it’s for the future of the Avery family.”
“No, Young Miss. I’m already grateful that you trust me enough to confide in me. You could simply give me orders without needing to explain yourself, but, like the previous members of the Avery family, your kindness and generosity shine through. It brings me joy to know that I have your trust…”
Hera blushed a little after being complimented by the CEO of UE all of a sudden so she could only smile at him.
He pulled up a folder from his briefcase and set it on the table facing Hera. “Young Miss, please review the contract, although this is only for formalities, everything in the contract was an A lister’s and we can change it according to your liking.”
Hera smiled and glanced at the contract but refrained from picking it up. The CEO noticed her hesitation and spoke up. “I understand your desire to be treated equally, and I anticipated your response. However, please allow me to share my perspective. While fairness is an ideal we all strive for, the reality is that life often isn’t fair.”
Pausing, he calmly took a sip of his tea, approaching the conversation as if it were a routine business negotiation. “Some are born into privilege while others are not. Yet, those who are privileged aren’t obligated to sacrifice their opportunities to level the playing field. It’s simply the way of life. If you choose not to utilize your privilege, others may exploit it. Jealousy and envy persist regardless of whether you embrace your advantages. People will always find reasons to covet what they don’t have. I hope my point is clear…”
He offered an awkward smile, acknowledging the length of his message, a reflection of his years in the industry.
As Hera contemplated the CEO’s perspective, she realized that her initial reluctance was rooted in a desire to avoid complications. However, it got her thinking that what she might think is best for the company might not be really the best for it. His words prompted her to reconsider, recognizing that her actions could potentially benefit the company in significant ways.
Noticing Hera’s lingering hesitation, the CEO persisted. “Consider this: your influence transcends mere popularity. Your presence in the industry commands attention, making you an invaluable asset. Other companies are undoubtedly eager to secure you to be a part of their own company, recognizing the substantial clout you wield. Embracing this opportunity not only advances your career but also serves the company’s interests.”
With unwavering conviction, he continued, “If there are any objections to this contract, it would likely stem from envy, but that’s not important. You’ve earned this recognition, and it’s only right that we acknowledge your value.” His confident demeanor conveyed his steadfast support.
The CEO’s expression elicited a chuckle from Hera, indicating her amusement at his actions and words. She extended her hand to retrieve the contract from the table, her demeanor shifting to one of focused concentration as she carefully scanned its contents. With a methodical approach, she committed each detail to memory, ensuring she grasped every aspect before proceeding. Finally, satisfied with what she read, she confidently grasped the pen and signed her signature to the document.
A bright smile spread across the CEO’s face as he observed Hera’s decisive action, his expression reflecting genuine satisfaction at her commitment and understanding of his perspective.
As Hera placed the contract back on the table, the CEO swiftly retrieved it and stowed it inside his briefcase, a hint of urgency in his movements. Preventing any potential change of heart from Hera, he bid his farewell with a quick yet earnest message. “I’ve already reached out to our top manager, who will be contacting you today. Please be prepared.” With that, he made a hasty departure, mindful of the rumors surrounding Rafael Briley’s attempts to secure Hera’s attention. Despite Rafael’s charming appeal, the CEO harbored concerns that Hera might regret her decision in favor of the handsome Rafael.
