Chapter 636: Chapter 636 Working Together
“Why would I do that?” Dave replied with a shrug.
“I still have my principles. Besides, like I said, the Averys are good people who genuinely help others. I’ve worked with the current head of the Avery family on projects he invested in with the government.”
“He’s always been supportive, providing funds for initiatives that benefit the country. I know what’s best for my people and my country.”
“Losing people like them would be a betrayal to both. My ancestors might even rise from their graves just to kick me and spit on me if I ever did something like that.”
As the Young Minister, Dave understood the weight of his responsibilities. He knew he had to protect his people and their interests, always weighing the pros and cons of every decision he made.
Xavier, seeing that Hera hadn’t specified who she was addressing and sensing how important the question was to her, decided to answer as well.
“I don’t think they’re bad people. From what I know, UE was under the Avery family, and compared to other entertainment companies, they really stand out.”
“The others, aside from UE and SOE, often exploit their artists to gain favor with investors, even if it means sacrificing their dignity or bodies. They use their own talent to cater to businessmen, making the entertainment industry a toxic and corrupt place.”
“But UE is different. They maintain high standards for recruitment and treat their artists with respect, always supporting them rather than exploiting them. That alone shows that the people in charge of the company have principles. You can tell a lot about a leader by how their subordinates act, and UE’s artists showcase professionalism and integrity.”
“I agree,” Luke added from the front, his hands steady on the controls as he kept a watchful eye on Leo’s movements, almost as if he were learning how to fly by observing.
“Not only are the people at the Avery Consortium talented and hard-working, but they also remain free from corruption. The current head of the Avery family takes these matters seriously, ensuring there’s zero tolerance for any form of corruption.”
“He doesn’t just deal with it swiftly when it arises—he actively works to prevent it. That’s why the company offers such great salaries and employee benefits. The staff would be too afraid to engage in anything shady, knowing that no other company offers deals as generous as the Avery’s.”
Leo, who had been listening to the three speak, raised an eyebrow and smirked.
‘Did they really not know who Hera was? Or were they deliberately making these statements to catch her attention because they already suspected her identity as the Avery heiress?’ he mused silently before adding his own thoughts to the conversation.
“The Hendrix and the Avery have always shared a close relationship, so naturally, we, the Hendrix, will always stand by and protect the Avery,” Leo said, his voice steady.
He paused for a moment, then added, as if emphasizing his point, “But above all, what’s most important to me is this: anyone who dares to hurt my wife will have to answer to me. I’ll fight to my last breath to ensure they suffer for what they’ve done.”
Although no one fully understood why Leo said those words, it came across more as a warning.
It was clear that no one was allowed to harm Hera, and Leo would stop at nothing to make them pay.
His words hinted at a fierce determination, promising that he wouldn’t settle for anything less than total destruction for anyone who dared to hurt her.
Hera’s heart lurched in her chest, as if it might leap out entirely, triggered by Leo’s words.
They reminded her of something from the novel—something the villain had once said.
“No matter who my enemy is, if they hurt my wife, they must answer to me. I’ll hunt them to the ends of the earth if necessary, and let them burn with the world, because that’s what they owe her.”
That villain was known for his cold, unyielding nature, like ice—ruthless and vindictive. He cared for nothing but vengeance, punishing those who caused harm to his wife, regardless of the means.
His hatred for the world ran deep, for it was the world that had taken his love from him. He condemned everything and everyone in it.
Though Leo’s words were different, Hera couldn’t shake the feeling that the underlying message was the same.
For a brief moment, she felt as though Leo was mirroring the villain from the novel—the greatest antagonist, capable of going to unimaginable lengths to destroy the male leads, the female lead, and anyone connected to the downfall of the Avery family.
Hera snapped out of her thoughts when Leo’s voice broke through. “Should we land somewhere first before heading to the Avery branch in disguise?”
She blinked a few times, trying to process his suggestion. A lump formed in her throat as she glanced at her phone, having just received a message from Cindy.
It said that Vince’s assistant would be waiting for her at the office and was fully aware of her identity.
The problem was, it seemed Leo and the others were planning to accompany her, which could complicate things.

“Um…” Hera began, her voice uncertain.
“I’ll reach out to the local authorities I know here and gather more information,” Dave suggested.
He could tell Hera was in a tough spot, and it was clear that bringing the group along would complicate things.
Cindy had specifically asked Hera to help out, which meant she needed to operate undercover.
The issue didn’t just lie within the company—it might also involve corrupt officials working with someone to undermine the Avery.
Dave’s plan to connect with the local authorities was a necessary step to safeguard against any potential foul play from the government side.
As long as the Avery’s accounts were clean, there shouldn’t be any major issues.
“I’ll contact the other companies I’ve invested in to see if any local businesses are interested in acquiring the Avery branch or if there are any hostile competitors involved,” Luke offered, reading between the lines and adding his support to lighten the load for Hera.
Since Vince was already in police custody, it was clear the investigation into the tax evasion and embezzlement was in motion. That meant they needed to move quickly as well.
“Then, I’ll coordinate with the Hendrix’s intel to dig deeper. I might also be able to tap into the Avery’s intel department, working alongside them to make it easier for both sides to uncover the truth and gather more evidence against the person trying to undermine the Avery,” Leo said with a firm nod.
All of them were eager to help in any way they could, especially since they could see Hera’s determination to assist Cindy.
Besides, they each had their own suspicions about what was really going on.
“I… I…” Xavier wanted to offer his help, but he found himself at a loss for what he could do.
As an international actor, he couldn’t just go out there and act, could he?
Little did he realize, though, that his skills in acting would actually prove to be quite useful in this situation.
