Chapter 638: Chapter 638 Entering The Avery Branch
“From the driver…”
“From the cleaner…”
Luke and Leo spoke in unison, their eyes quickly locking onto each other with a knowing look.
They had, in fact, secured everything from the driver and the cleaner while Hera was busy changing.
Their plan had always been to ensure Hera wasn’t left to go alone. They knew the situation around the Avery branch office was too uncertain and dangerous to let her face it by herself.
Sending Hera out alone would have been a huge gamble.
Since Xavier was the only one free, they’d already taken the necessary precautions before leaving.
Luke had asked the driver for a worn-out suit, while Leo had requested wax, oil, and discarded shoes from the cleaner.
When they put it all together, the result was undeniable—Xavier looked like a homeless man who had been squatting in the office for weeks.
Dave couldn’t hold back his laughter, snickering at the sight of Xavier.
Xavier’s jaw clenched in fury, the veins in his forehead throbbing with anger, though unfortunately, no one could see his frustration.
Leo had made sure his hair was a tangled mess, strategically covering his forehead and even his eyes. His silver-white hair now looked greasy and unkempt, adding to the overall effect.
“Dude, this is for the greater good,” Dave said, trying his best to get the words out through his laughter, as he was patting Xavier’s shoulder.
But Xavier swiftly dodged, causing Dave to miss and almost stumble to the side.
Dave couldn’t blame him, though—he’d been the one laughing the hardest.
It wasn’t every day that the germaphobe Xavier, who always looked pristine and smelled like he’d just walked out of a shower, looked like this.
In fact, Dave even secretly snapped a photo for future laughs, something he could pull up whenever he needed a good chuckle.
Seeing that Xavier was genuinely uncomfortable and down, Hera stepped forward and gave his arm a gentle rub. Turning her gaze to Dave, she said firmly, “Stop bullying him.”
At once, Dave’s laughter stopped, and he quickly stashed his phone away. “Sweetheart, I wasn’t—” he started, but his voice trailed off, his eyes dropping with a hint of guilt. “I’m sorry…”
“Wifey, we’re not bullying him,” Leo chimed in. “But if you want to infiltrate the place without drawing attention, you have to look the part. And with Xavier’s striking features, there’s no way to hide him without taking some… drastic measures.”
Dave nodded like a scolded puppy, his mouth sealed as he avoided Hera’s gaze, not wanting to upset her further.
“And besides, being ‘ordinary’ won’t cut it if you want to stay unnoticed in an office,” Leo explained, his tone almost defensive.
“You need to look a little… out of place. With Xavier looking as unkempt as he does and the two of you together, you’ll just blend into the background.”
“You’ll look like the kind of people no one wants to deal with. Even if it’s your first time there, no one will want to approach you. They’ll just assume you’re new and stuck with the menial tasks.”
Leo said this with a hint of grievance, as though he, too, had been misunderstood in the process.
Luke nodded, maintaining his gentle smile. “Don’t worry, Xavier’s a great actor. He’ll slip right into the role.” He turned to Xavier, who looked clearly uncomfortable. “Right?”
Xavier hesitated for a moment, clearly not fully convinced, but when reminded of his acting skills, he paused, then nodded slowly.
“Yes, Hera. I’m an actor,” he said, though his words carried a tone of self-reassurance as if he was trying to convince himself more than anyone else.
Hera couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for him.
“I won’t let you go alone,” he added, his voice firmer, though the unease still lingered.

With a resigned smile, Hera nodded.
She was aware that most of the employees at Avery likely knew her face by now, especially since Gerald and the other aides had already distributed her picture to keep them informed.
However, since the identity of those behind the attack on Avery’s branch office remained unknown, she couldn’t afford to walk in looking like herself—especially if she intended to investigate up close.
While the office appeared to be operating as usual, with employees going about their daily tasks, their hands were actually tied.
They were operating under close scrutiny, as the Tax Bureau was watching their every move, making sure no one did anything shady or erased any potential evidence.
The office would remain open only until enough proof was gathered to substantiate the tax evasion claims and close the case.
The office was now swarming with Tax Bureau officers, all combing through the company’s accounts and past activities.
With this in mind, Hera steeled herself for what was to come. Xavier, too, had already pushed past his discomfort, fully immersing himself in the role of a downtrodden office worker.
Meanwhile, Hera adopted the persona of a meek, nerdy girl, ready to blend into the background.
Leo, Luke, and Dave accompanied them to the office, but this time, they didn’t use the extended Rolls Royce Phantom.
Instead, they opted for a weathered old jeep to keep their presence inconspicuous.
After dropping Hera and Xavier off, the three of them quickly drove off, leaving the pair to carry out their mission.
As soon as Hera and Xavier stepped out of the car, the employees took one look at them and immediately drew their own conclusions.
To them, the pair seemed like poor newcomers from a remote village, venturing into the big city in search of better opportunities.
With this assumption, the employees quickly averted their gazes and avoided any interaction, pretending not to notice them.
It wasn’t that the employees were being snobbish—it was simply that they were used to seeing people like Hera and Xavier, individuals who appeared to be starting from the very bottom in hopes of climbing the ladder.
Such sights had become so commonplace that they no longer drew any attention. The employees carried on with their tasks without a second glance.
Meanwhile, Hera had already messaged Cindy about the plan and given her a detailed description of her and Xavier’s disguises.
By the time the pair stepped into the building, Vince’s assistant was already waiting for them, prepared to guide them further.
Some employees were curious about why Vince’s personal assistant was personally receiving Hera and Xavier.
However, others assumed that the duo must be exceptional talents brought in from elsewhere.
Given the company’s current troubles and Vince’s absence, it seemed natural that his assistant would handle their arrival—after all, the company needed all the help it could get.
“Well, it seems to be working…” Hera murmured, glancing around discreetly.
“Please follow me inside, Miss…”
“Just call me Hera for now,” she interjected quickly.
The assistant nodded politely and led them forward. They took the president’s exclusive elevator straight to the highest floor.
When the doors slid open, Hera immediately noticed the bustling activity in the corridor.
Staff members hurried back and forth, their arms stacked with folders, their expressions a mix of frustration and urgency.
Without a word, the assistant guided Hera and Xavier down the hallway toward the president’s office.
Amid the chaos, no one paid them any attention, their focus entirely consumed by their tasks.
