Chapter 79: Chapter 79 Catching Fish
Xavier’s guide walked just a few steps behind him, assisting another cameraman along the way.
At that moment, Hera didn’t dwell on them too much. While getting closer to Xavier was her main goal, her immediate priority was to gather resources to avoid hunger. She was keen on making a good first impression, but she also knew the importance of not pushing too hard, lest it might backfire on her.
After walking deeper into the forest for half an hour, Hera could already hear the sound of rushing water in the distance. Bry’s excitement grew, causing him to quicken his pace towards the source of the water.
After parting some ferns along the way, they finally reached the flowing river. The shore was adorned with large and medium-sized rocks cloaked in thick moss. The scene was tranquil and picturesque, perfectly suited for a peaceful picnic getaway.
“Wow! It’s stunning,” Hera exclaimed as she approached the river, watching fish swim against the current.
“It really is! Usually, we’re not allowed to come here, especially children,” Bry replied, sounding disappointed.
Hera turned to face him. “Why is that?”
“Um… Because the adults say there are bears and wolves in the mountains,” Bry confessed.
Hera was taken aback by the revelation. Even the cameraman seemed startled, taking a step back as if considering a retreat. However, Bry persisted.
“But wolves and bears don’t usually venture out at this time. They have plenty to eat deeper in the mountains. As long as we stay in the outer part, we’ll be fine,” Bry explained confidently, his words prompting a loud sigh from the cameraman.
“Furthermore, the adults have installed traps in the mountains to ensure the safety of the livestock from predators,” he added.
Hera glanced back at Xavier’s group. If it were truly dangerous, she reasoned, Xavier’s older guide wouldn’t have permitted them to come here. Seeing them nearby only reinforced her belief that it was safe to venture this far.
Putting her previous concerns aside, Hera scanned the area for a usable stick. As she pulled up her sweatpants to her knees and removed her shoes, she focused on the task at hand.
“Bry, do you think there are edible mushrooms nearby?” Hera inquired.
Bry nodded eagerly, gesturing towards the southern part of the forest. “Yes, they’re just nearby, around that area.”
Hera tapped her chin thoughtfully as she considered her options. “Bry, could you gather some dry twigs? But make sure to stay within sight,” she requested.
Upon hearing Hera’s instruction, Bry eagerly complied, scanning the ground for twigs. Aware of where Hera was planning to use them, he also included some dry leaves in the mix to ensure an easier time starting a fire.
He gathered the twigs in a dry spot near Hera. As she silently observed him, Hera couldn’t help but smile, admiring Bry’s quick-wittedness and intelligence.
However, she didn’t waste any time on her own task. Spotting a yard-long stick, she quickly sharpened its tip using her tactical knife. The cameraman couldn’t help but whistle in admiration at how effortlessly Hera carried out her task.
Shortly after, she began spearfishing in the shallow part of the river, where the fish congregated.
With silent precision, she approached the school of fish, taking one careful step at a time to avoid creating too much disturbance in the water, which could startle the fish.
Ensuring she was at an appropriate distance, she swiftly pierced through the water with her makeshift spear, aiming precisely and striking quickly.
“Woah! You caught one! What a big fish!” Bry exclaimed, unable to contain his surprise and admiration as Hera lifted her spear triumphantly, showcasing the huge fish she had caught.
Hearing Bry’s genuine praise, Hera couldn’t help but beam at him, her smile reflecting the warmth she felt from his sincere admiration and the excitement of the moment. It felt as if she were back in the wild with her grandfather once again.

Hera stepped out of the water onto the shore, securing her spear between stones before cutting some large leaves to use as a makeshift plate for the fish. She cut ten leaves, each larger than her face.

However, when she went to retrieve her spear, it was nowhere to be found. Glancing around, she spotted Xavier taking the fish off the spear. Hera narrowed her eyes as she watched him.
Xavier seemed to sense her intense gaze and met her eyes directly, showing no signs of shyness. Instead, he calmly stated, “I’ll catch fish, you can gut them.”
Hera was momentarily taken aback by his assertiveness. ‘Is he delegating tasks?’ Xavier then approached Hera, handing her the fish before diving into the water himself.
Hera did not move for a while as she looked at Xavier, he was a little clumsy as he moved around and tried to pierce through the water but the stick would sometimes swerve after getting in contact with the water’s surface which would then slightly alter the course of the spear’s trajectory.
It took him three tries before he seemed to get the hang of it.
‘Is this his first time, perhaps?’ Hera wondered. Judging from his initial attempts, it appeared to be so. However, when he first jumped into the water, he displayed a level of confidence as if he had done it countless times before. Hera realized that he must have been observing her movements closely and was now trying to replicate them, albeit with a few misses. If only he hadn’t missed a few times, Hera wouldn’t have guessed that he had only observed her actions once before applying them and succeeding.
After successfully catching a fish, his previously laid-back demeanor transformed into a radiant smile, radiating joy that seemed to overshadow the beauty of the surroundings. Hera and the viewers from both their streams were momentarily stunned by his sudden change. Clearly exhilarated by his success, he happily approached Hera, pulling the fish from the spear and handing it to her.

In another CEO’s office. “Sir, have you seen this?”
Rafael’s brow furrowed at the sudden interruption, sensing an air of urgency from his assistant. “What’s the matter?” he asked, a note of irritation evident in his voice.
“I thought this might catch your interest,” he said, approaching his boss and showing him his phone screen, which displayed Hera’s interaction with Xavier by the riverside.
“Are you giving me this fish?” Hera asked, her senses returning as she processed the situation.
