Chapter 839: Chapter 839 A Weird Guy
Not long after, Hera and the others heard a knock at the door. Hera responded calmly, “Please come in.”

The door opened—but instead of a staff member, it was the man she had seen earlier in the other VIP booth. The moment he stepped in, his eyes immediately met Hera’s. She was seated directly facing the door, so she got a full view of him the instant he entered.

She raised an eyebrow, curious, while the man looked at her openly. It was hard to read his thoughts, but his dark eyes were like deep pools—mesmerizing, almost hypnotic. There was something dangerously charming about his gaze, as if anyone he looked at would feel like he was seducing them, pulling them in with a mix of intensity and allure. And he was undeniably handsome.

Maybe in the past, Hera would’ve easily been flustered—her heart skipping a beat or two. But after spending so much time around the male leads and getting used to their presence and charm, this kind of handsomeness no longer fazed her the way it might have once.

So instead, she simply offered a polite smile and asked, “What can we help you with, sir?”

Seeing Hera so calm and composed, the man raised an amused eyebrow, his interest deepening. From the moment she entered the restaurant earlier, his attention had been instantly drawn to her.

His eyes had involuntarily followed her every move—the graceful sway of her steps, the subtle flutter of her lashes. But what truly caught him off guard was her reaction when their eyes met.

Unlike other women who often looked at him as if he were some untouchable god, Hera had merely glanced at him—cool, indifferent. At first, he thought she might be playing hard to get, a common tactic to attract attention. But then, instead of sneaking glances or pretending not to look, she had done something unexpected: she casually closed the curtains, completely shutting him out of view.

That amused him even more.

Now, standing in front of her, he found the same disinterest in her eyes. She wore a polite, almost distant expression, as if his renowned charm had no effect on her at all—as if he didn’t even register on her radar.

It was refreshing… and maddeningly intriguing. To him, it felt like he had just discovered a new puzzle or a toy that didn’t react the way it should, and that only made him more determined to see how it worked.

But Hera? She truly wasn’t doing it on purpose—she was genuinely unbothered. Normally, she’d be playful or curious, especially when she was with Athena. Even now, Athena was clearly gawking at the man’s handsome features, but Hera? After offering a polite greeting, she simply looked down at the table, her thoughts drifting elsewhere.

Her mind was consumed with worry over Leo’s condition. All she wanted was to get back home as soon as possible—to be there when he woke up, or at least help care for him. Her heart was so full of Leo that the man standing before her might as well have been a flavorless dish—something she had no desire to sample, much less savor.

And the man noticed. Hera’s indifference didn’t just surprise him—it stung. He clenched his jaw slightly, his pride pricked in a way he didn’t expect.

With a strained smile, he spoke. “Would you care to join us at the banquet in the main hall? Many of the elite are gathered there—wealthy heirs and heiresses, the social heart of Paris.”

As he watched her closely, he tried to gauge her reaction, expecting the same delighted spark he usually saw in women when offered access to such exclusive circles. But with Hera, he wasn’t so sure—and that only deepened his curiosity.

He wanted to see whether Hera’s indifference was genuine or just a carefully crafted façade. But even after he mentioned the elite circle, her expression didn’t change in the slightest. Not even a flicker of interest crossed her face—and her friends remained just as composed.

He could tell they were foreigners. Yes, the clothes they wore were elegant and of good quality, but compared to the haute couture draped across the true upper class tonight, their outfits were modest—likely off-the-rack pieces. It led him to assume they belonged to the upper-middle class from another country.

And yet… Hera’s mannerisms, her poised presence, and that unshakable calm—it all suggested something else. There was an ease to the way she carried herself, the kind of quiet authority that came only from someone used to moving within the highest echelons of society. The contradiction intrigued him deeply. But beneath that curiosity, another feeling started to fester—an unfamiliar sting of rejection.

It felt like she was deliberately dismissing him.

Then, he let out a low chuckle—tight-lipped and laced with irritation—before saying, “Woman, you’ve caught my attention.”

Hera and Athena, both mid-sip from their glasses of water, nearly choked. They exchanged a glance, instantly reading each other’s thoughts: ‘Did he really just say that?’It was the classic CEO line from every overused webnovel trope.

Athena, who had devoured more than her fair share of those stories, immediately looked down, biting her lip hard as her shoulders shook from trying to suppress the laughter bubbling in her chest. Hera, despite her training in acting, was struggling too. Her poker face was cracking.

‘Was this guy serious? Was he trying to flirt? Or was this a very dramatic attempt at picking up women using recycled novel dialogue?’

But the man wasn’t done.

He leaned in slightly and added, “Woman, it seems you’re not taking me seriously. You’re playing with fire.”

That was it.

Hera’s eyes sparkled with amusement as she blinked rapidly, trying to hide her grin. Athena, on the other hand, was practically sliding down in her seat, hiding her face as she struggled to keep from bursting out laughing.

‘Shit, if this keeps going, I might actually fart from holding my laughter in.’ Athena clenched her jaw and quickly looked away, doing everything in her power not to burst out laughing. It didn’t feel right to laugh in someone’s face—especially when they didn’t even know the guy.

‘Was he trying to impress them or audition for a comedy show?’

Oddly enough, Hera’s previously gloomy mood had completely evaporated thanks to this man’s dramatic entrance and even more dramatic lines. She had been worried about Leo just moments ago, but now she was trying not to burst into laughter at this unexpected turn of events.

Meanwhile, the man shifted uncomfortably, sensing something was… off. His dark eyes flicked from Hera to Athena, who was now turned away, shoulders trembling. Was he really that unappealing today? Was his charm just off? He couldn’t figure it out—but for the first time in a while, he felt doubt creeping in.

He looked like he was about to say more, but Hera swiftly raised a hand, palm out, silently begging him to stop.

‘Please, enough.’ Her eyes fluttered shut as she mentally recited every calming mantra she could think of—sutras, prayers, even random song lyrics—anything to keep herself from bursting into laughter.
