Chapter 109: Passes
Starting your own guild and getting enough members with proper qualifications sounded easy enough on paper.
Only on paper.
But Luca looked so optimistic that Ollie couldn’t just pop his bubble by telling him about his almost non-existent chances of passing.
Especially not when Luca risked his life to get one of the newly bred chickens from the chicken coop.
It was a battle that even the three guys couldn’t join because the chicken bosses would call forth an attack every time they tried entering.
Yes, his good brother now had regular chickens that were subservient to the chicken bosses. Not that any of them looked regular with such sizes, but that was their reality now.
Luca looked like he went to war just to be able to serve them some fried chicken. And Ollie ate each bite with tears in his eyes as he thought of so many things.
First, how could he eat such a thing when it was to celebrate signing up for the mercenary exam, which he would likely fail?
Second, how was it possible that they all survived to this age without ever tasting such a glorious thing?
They have Fried birds, but they were literally giant birds with claws as big as a face, and none of them tasted like this delectable goodness.
Third, if they were to auction something like this, would they be able to leave the venue in one piece? Maybe they shouldn’t attend the auction physically.
But even with a heavy heart, Ollie’s eating speed did not suffer.
It didn’t matter if he was eating while sobbing; what mattered was that he was eating.
He learned this vital skill from having brothers, who would wipe the table clean if one wasn’t fast enough. It was now proving useful against these boulders.
Now, while Ollie was trying to console himself, one of the boulders had a different dilemma.
Jax, who had really liked everything he’d eaten so far, was now confused about whether to ask for permission to plant or raise a few chickies.
The crispy skin and juicy meat tasted so good that he felt it was okay to risk his limbs for them.
How could he not risk it when he was willing to do the same for the corruption that smelled so bad and definitely couldn’t be eaten? So, he finally asked.
“Luca, do you think it would be possible to plant a few crops in your space? I know you have the master farmers, but I was hoping to try out planting?”
Kyle, Xavier, and Ollie were definitely surprised by the sudden question. None of them thought about trying it out for themselves.
“Actually, I was hoping to plant back outside, but figured we didn’t have the space for it, and it might take forever before something even grew!” Jax rubbed the back of his neck because it felt like he was spouting nonsense, especially when no one reacted.
But the only reason they weren’t reacting was because Jax was spitting idea after idea that they really should’ve thought of before.
Luca actually liked the premise but had to confirm with D-29 if they could do just that.
“Yes, Host. It should be fine provided you, the owner, aren’t against it, and if you give them access to housing on your settlement, they should be able to come here by themselves until you restrict them.”
Now, that was surprising.
Luca didn’t think it’d be possible to do it like that. So far, they’ve all had to gather up before going in so that no one would be left behind, but being able to do so without waiting for him? That’s convenient.
“But, how was it possible?” Luca asked D-29, who reminded him of the nature of his space.
“Host, this is still a Dungeon. And like you did with the test before, you could even give the gate a physical manifestation for everyone to see and enter.”
They all watched Luca’s expression, and Jax was ready to apologize for overstepping when he realized how shocked Luca was.

But, then Luca nodded earnestly before sporting a grave face.
Technically, this was dangerous, and he needed to ensure that he only let in people he trusted.
So, Luca needed all of them to swear.
“I have something to tell you guys, but you need to promise me something,” Luca said as he bit his lip hesitantly.
They all had to stop eating because it sounded dire, and Luca’s expression was rarely like this unless he was losing money.
And he really was because he was going to lose 5,000CP for each Settlement Access Pass.
After recycling his trash cubes and buying three cookbooks, Luca was actually going to be left with 23,100CP after this.
It would hurt, really hurt.
But these people have helped him a lot.
Ollie was his sworn brother, while he was now exclusive to Xavier. As for Kyle and Jax, Xavier said he would handle them, and he figured that with the passes he bought, he should have control over their access rights.
So, now, all he needed to do was get them to swear the ultimate oath.
“Please do a pinky swear with me.” Said Luca as he raised his pinky before everyone.
“???”
Everyone looked long and hard, and Ollie finally had to ask what kind of oath that was and what they were supposed to do.
While Luca couldn’t admit where he got this, he figured he’d bind the house passes once they swore.
Back at Tesseris, he heard that this was the most crucial oath a person could make and that it shouldn’t be broken at the risk of death.
He never managed to do one because it required having a friend to do it with, but the others back at the orphanage did it a lot.
In fact, Luca once saw one who swore but lied, then ended up sick in the hospital (coincidentally).
From then on, Luca believed that when needed, he would also ask someone to pinky swear with him.
And there was no better time than now.
Xavier looked at the little chipmunk who had his pinky out and figured he really needed to tighten security around this guy.
He was still reeling from earlier but calmed down once he realized how Luca really meant well.
Admittedly, Xavier found that to be much worse. Because how was he supposed to scold him for it. Just how?
And now, he was sure that the small animal was about to do something big again and yet only asked for something like this.
Granted, Jax and Ollie actually thought highly of the oath that they’d never heard of before, especially when their pinkies glowed after touching.
It was a touching oath, and Luca actually grinned as he made an oath with every person in the room. By the end of it, he realized why so many other people kept making such oaths.
It was great to be a part of something, Luca thought as he giggled.
Then, there was a commotion at the table after the four people got sudden prompts from the Dungeon. The four people didn’t expect to see a temporary access pass to Luca’s space as settlement tenants.
Ollie’s heart thundered the entire time, and from the moment he made the oath down to the shocking prompt, he made a decision to burn the midnight oil until he could repair an entire mecha.
He was going to die on that hill.
There was no other choice.
