Chapter 112: Lighthouse
It was the most expensive review session in Ollie’s life, but he didn’t get to appreciate the sentiment as much because Luca was apparently a demonic teacher.
And he could barely breathe, just trying to catch up.
It also didn’t help that he would be revitalized whenever he felt like he was done for. And he would consume more spiritual water until he could go at it again.
Well, of course, the little moneygrubber was only channeling the old man from before as if he was replaying a video in his mind.
He would’ve been a saintly teacher had there been another role model, but that was a long shot.
But in the end, Ollie gained as much as he had suffered.
When he left where they sat for training, Ollie was practically glowing.
His skin looked like it took a year-round vacation in the spa. While his aura was insanely bright, so anyone with visual resonance could probably see him from the next continent.
“Yeah, you might not want to go out looking like that.” Kyle appraised the mop, who was now a walking highlighter, and told him that it was really obvious he was high on something.
“Everyone already thinks they’re on to something with you, so if you go out right now while looking like that, you’ll likely not make it far.”
Even Luca agreed, and Ollie realized that everyone could see it.
And by everyone, that even included Sid, who agreed from where he was.
The guardian mecha actually watched the entire review (torture) session and vowed never to be caught missing that much information.
The new master was similarly strict and kind. This method was sure to drive any student up the walls, just like the slightly taller stick who was likely crying on the inside as he shone like a lighthouse.
“Is it that bad?” Ollie got scared by their words and felt like he should sleep here for tonight.
“Not for you. With what you just did, there’s even a chance for you to break through to another level.” It was one of the elders who spoke this time.
Luca and Ollie actually went by to see everyone who was trying to rehome a few of the plants they planted.
After they built several tiny homes, the money grubber asked the elders for assistance in starting small vegetable or fruit gardens.
Luca initially thought of teaching the others, but he realized that the methods he knew weren’t as effective as the elders’ practices.
But more than the budding plants and the cute little saplings, the aspiring farmers were surprised to hear about this breakthrough concept.
“Elder Shen, what do you mean by breakthrough?” Luca made a slight guess and wondered if it was similar to when the Espers were promoted to the next rank.
The Elders long considered what to say when asked about their identities. They just didn’t expect that none of these kids wanted to learn about the deities!
For some reason, all they wanted to find out about were how to farm and what to eat!
Especially that redhead who would soon turn into a strawberry if he didn’t stop staring at the tiny buds!
How preposterous, really!
It was mind-boggling for the masters who had long been used to people clamoring for their teachings and their tales.
But then they also figured out that it was now a different world. As entities who have witnessed different phases and planes, the change wasn’t that new to them. They just had to adjust, like all those other times.
So, they figured they’d adapt the concept to the current plane. “His energy source is about to be reformed and once successful, he should be promoted to what you guys call the next rank.”
Elder Feng thought he had adapted the explanation well and was surprised that the kids looked at him like he had grown his head back.

“What?” He asked, wondering if he said something offensive.
In his defense, the Elders didn’t know how bad it was outside the Dungeon. So, it would’ve been impossible for them to understand that the concept of breaking through had long been lost to the people who had to make do with what they were born with.
“You mean I can have an A-rank spiritual ability rating?” Ollie had to verify in case his hearing had gone bad after that torturous experience.
“There, that rank. Just survive the change, and you should be A-rank in no time.” Re-assured Elder Wei this time.
But none of them was reassured because what exactly did they mean by ‘survive’?
Luca was the first to panic because he had made his brother drink all that spiritual water!
“Elder Wei, what do you mean by surviving the change?”
Now, it was the Elders’ turn to feel odd. They found it weird that such kids, who clearly had energy cores, did not know what a breakthrough was like.
The Elders looked at each other before electing Elder Wei, who was supposed to be skilled in medicine, to explain what to expect in case of a breakthrough.
Luca listened to the explanation and realized that it felt familiar.
Then, they discussed what to look out for, such as the Energy Surge that usually happens when someone breaks through.
Elder Wei was about to discuss the Heavenly Tribulation when Elder Feng socked him. Only then did he notice the looks on the kids’ faces and realize they might not be ready for the part where they might get roasted.
Maybe next time.
Now, Ollie, a slightly taller, weak chicken, was obviously scandalized by this and wanted to ask about the chances of survival. But before he could get to it, his good brother started firing off very alarming questions.
“Elder Wei, if anything, will revival pills work? And what about booster pills?” Luca was clutching his chest in fear and wanted to make sure that if anything bad happened, he could revive his brother with the things he saw on the Trove.
Xavier, for the most part, wondered if the Chipmunk also planned on reviving him one way or the other had he actually succumbed to an early death the last time.
But instead of asking, he decided to keep it to himself in case he got an answer he’d rather not hear.
Elder Wei, who heard ‘pills’ suddenly felt like their new Lord had potential and immediately said, “Why yes, Lord, when it’s done right, it could likely revive someone who failed a breakthrough.”
Luca breathed a sigh of relief as he looked at his catatonic brother, only to find him mortified beyond belief.
Yet, even in this state, he realized that his good brother was thinking about reviving him, and that alone felt comforting enough.
Okay, maybe not enough, but definitely at least a bit.
But then Kyle had to remind him of the world’s realities by asking if he had ever gotten the insurance they were talking about.
Ollie really wanted to smack the hell out of Kyle, but when he looked around, he saw his good brother grinning up at him.
“Ollie, Ollie, does this mean you can make those high-grade mechas now that you can actually break through?” His brother was sparkling.
It was a really good look for him, but Ollie realized this meant that he would have to face death several times over.
But okay.
Maybe the heavens don’t want to see him yet.
