Chapter 127: Battleship
However, domination had to take a step back in light of their inexplicable tardiness.
Duke Leander was crestfallen the moment he learned about the Mercenary Exam.
No one in the manor really cared about this popular qualifier after all the children had graduated. If anything, it just brought back memories for most of the staff who had taken it when they were students themselves.
It’s just that they suddenly discovered that their Young Lord was taking the same exam in his freshman year!
It was a disaster, as everyone could rightfully imagine.
Their Lord wanted to join a guild?!
Now, most nobles would find this great, but Luca was the heir to the Dukedom of Kyros, and if he entered any of those guilds, he’d be giving them too much of a service.
The Duke felt extremely incompetent after he decided to dissolve the duchy’s sponsored Academy guild.
For a while, they maintained the guild. They kept it running until the last associated child graduated.
After this, the people rarely heard anything about the House of Kyros and only heard about the son’s frivolous ways.
However, given their clear intentions to remain in seclusion, it would not be advisable to recruit these young people who could still progress their careers elsewhere.
We might as well dissolve it after the last members graduate, thought the Duke back then.
Yeah.
Well, hell.
Now what?
Back when he was a student, he was the Captain and leader of the Golden Phoenix Guild. And it was something that he could’ve given to his son had he used a bit of his brain cells and held on a little longer.
Just a little longer.
But he didn’t. And now his son would have to beg these guilds for a membership?
Preposterous!
The Duke, who was supposed to be the model of finesse and nobility, was drooping all over his chair as he wallowed in this failure.
Not to mention being tardy!
They were late, extremely late!
When they found out about it, the exams were already about to begin, and they wouldn’t be able to make it to the entrance ceremony.
But what entrance ceremony? They were going to miss their Lord’s entire exam!
They didn’t expect him to finish that fast and in such a dominating manner.
When they rushed out to go to Planet Nova, everyone just gathered all the necessary equipment to watch a live broadcast on the battleship, but even then, it didn’t feel enough.
The people had to squeeze in to watch their Lord, and they felt like they were returning to ancient times when everyone suffered like this.
Clearly, anyone else who still had a sense of propriety would think that these people were going crazy, but with the people of the duchy all thinking this way, there wasn’t really anyone to tell them off.
So, now they had to face the consequences of their actions.

They’d never been frivolous and skimped on the luxuries that other battleships had, so now, all they could see was this poor excuse of a livestream. The Duke’s pout could stick to the door in length.
“Your Grace, I instructed the staff back at the duchy to record everything with much better equipment.” Butler Gary sighed, also realizing how absurd this was.
“It’s just a Battleship, Gary. Tell me why we didn’t get the upgraded interiors?” The Duke twisted himself like a pretzel in agony.
“That is because the Duchess said it would be pointless, Your Grace.”
“Oh.” Duke Leander blanched before finally remembering something good!
“Aha! Then you can tell the Duchess that she’s finally got one thing wrong!” Said the Duke proudly.
“Your Grace, that might be something that only you can do as this humble servant hasn’t developed the ability to have nine lives.” Said Butler Gary.
“Tsk. You all say that! You’re all just afraid of her!”
“Definitely, Your grace.” Butler Gary was honest, saying pride would not keep him alive.
But the Duchess was clear about doing whatever it took, so he was sure it would be okay.
“You heard her, right? Let’s just upgrade this. What do we do if my son joins the Astral Cup, and we’re forced to sit here in this rickety Battleship.”
If the new battleship with top-of-the-line armaments had feelings, it would’ve thrown everyone inside, but as it is, the innocent ship carried the pot of several people who once cut costs.
Speaking of cutting costs, D-29 made sure to capture as much data as possible by scanning everything it could.
The little system even scanned the fingers in case someone randomly decided to add a wayward finger to a perfectly okay design.
Now, these data were being reviewed as Luca waited to be released from this solitary holding.
Even now, they weren’t able to ascertain anything outside, and he was lucky to have something to do while waiting. Because unlike him, most applicants who made it in early were left to sleep in their waiting areas.
The instructors didn’t really consider this, and now they couldn’t take the students out even if they wanted to.
Who would’ve known that some of them would just outright demolish every opponent they encountered?
That would be Xavier, who had to wait the longest. But for someone who barely had the time to rest, this was his chance to get in a short nap.
Only for this nap to turn into a full night’s sleep.
The freshmen this year seemed to all be out for blood as they made each match very difficult.
No one wanted to lose, and in the face of defeat, would gather such strong will to fight that their matches ended up being prolonged.
Ollie couldn’t help himself and sighed as he realized the plight of his batchmates.
He was one of those people who suddenly had to muster every possible source of strength just to catch up with his buddies. But while he wanted to console all of them, he knew better than everyone that it would be for their own good.
Ollie thought this as he buried his past self, who lamented with tears and snot on his face as he thought of quitting every day.
But it was okay now; no one needed to know.
For now, Ollie had successfully brainwashed himself into forgetting the painful truths of the past.
His current memories now show him staying up late and seriously studying with his good brother as they became model students of the famed Academy.
There, he looked very cool and very studious, perfect for looking back once they were older.
