Chapter 140: Scumbag
Duke Leander could only blame himself for this.
It was a parent’s responsibility to educate their children. Had he been more capable, his precious son would have received better guidance.
But what could they do? Even if he crucified himself for the past, it would still be the present that mattered.
“My son! It’s okay if you don’t get top marks in class or can’t pilot a mecha! Just promise your Papa you won’t be a scumbag!”
While the Duke would, of course, be proud of a well-performing son, they didn’t have a child to get a perfect specimen!
And right now, a free son who was a good person would be good enough for a gutted Duke.
“Son, it’s your Papa’s fault for failing to do my duties, but even so, you have to understand that actions have consequences.”
“Look at Steward Han! Your mother said that Steward Han was cursed to go bald because he’s a scumbag!”
“Your Grace! Was a scumbag! That was 25 years ago! And we’re even married now!” Screamed the Steward who was miraculously dragged into this father’s lecture!
He was a silent bystander who now wanted to spew blood as he was used to teach wayward sons.
“Yes! Exactly! That was once! Now look at you!”
“See? Son, this is why you cannot be like this.” The Duke pointed at the Steward’s head as he tried to convince his blinking progeny.
But the Steward cannot say anything as the Duke was right about not being a scumbag, and as an adult, he was supposed to promote good morals and proper conduct!
But can he please stop it with the hair?! It was really a one-time thing of getting cold feet!
Luca was listening intently, trying to understand what his father meant.
Was that shiny senior from the cafeteria also a scumbag?
But why was he a scumbag?
The little money-grubber was wondering what he did that would make him one.
Was it because he almost burned Xavier’s face?
Or was it the clothes that they couldn’t save?
It wasn’t that he cared about being bald, but his father was probably right about him being a scumbag.
Even now, he still hadn’t offered compensation for Xavier.
“I—I’m sorry, Papa. That was wrong of me. I will compensate him, I promise!”
The Duke felt faint and weak! That was precisely what a scumbag would say! If his wife was here to hear this, he, as the failure of a father, may not have a house to go back to!
“Son! There are things that we cannot just compensate with money, such as a person’s innocence and dignity.”
“…”
Hell.
Xavier longed to be burned to a crisp.
At this point, he felt like he understood what the Duke was thinking.
It wasn’t the little chipmunk who was done.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
To everyone else, it was him.
He had been done by his little chipmunk.
Someone just kill him now.
What kind of pot was he carrying, and why was it practically impossible to unload the contents?
Luca had to process the Duke’s words and was unsure until D-29 attempted to help him.
“Host, remember how you wanted to make sure Xavier couldn’t back out? Maybe it’s because you might run away from your responsibilities.” Offered D-29, who could only look back at the recordings.
Oh yeah! Luca thought as he remembered how he was also unsure about Xavier’s conviction.
It was only after the contract that he felt reassured about their agreement. And so far, the benefactor had given him way more than what was due!
Yeah.
It seemed like he was behaving badly!
Then again, they already have one in place now. It’s just that his father didn’t know.
But in hindsight, he probably shouldn’t have mentioned it.
“About that, Papa, I also promised to take responsibility by being exclusive and hard-working.” Luca tried to recall his promises and thought how he had been fateful about everything up until recently.
Oh.
No.
I guided my father! Was that grounds for breaking their exclusivity?!
The little chipmunk panicked and checked on his ring, trying to see if he had broken the contract by guiding someone else.
Xavier, even as he covered part of his face with his arms, noticed the shorty’s sudden fussing.
“What’s wrong?” He wondered if his hand was spitting out fireballs again as he kept on inspecting his hand.
“Xavier, I… I may have failed in being faithful. Is—is our contract still binding?” Luca looked teary-eyed as he thought about his possible failure.
Even though this wasn’t a pinky swear, it was still a lifelong one, as Xavier mentioned before. And what if Xavier stopped their relationship because it hadn’t even been long enough, and he’s failed already?
Xavier’s heart skipped a beat. Or several even.
Unfaithful? How? The little chipmunk has been in sight nearly every day; how was it even possible to be cheating?
It was a whisper but save for the rustling of trees and chirping birds. The whole clearing was actually dead quiet.
The silence was so deafening that you would definitely hear a pin drop.
Not to mention enhanced hearing? And in one mop’s case, the blood of a full-fledged busybody?
Unfaithful?
Cheating?!
The Duke’s selective hearing was at its peak, and he couldn’t believe what was happening.
So, were they in a relationship?
And it seemed like his precious boy was unfaithful?!
The Duke, who had just had weak knees earlier, now has a weak waist.
Weak lungs.
And definitely a weak heart.
Not being allowed back home would be the last thing he should be worried about.
He may not be like Steward Han, but his wife wouldn’t need to curse him. She would just pull each strand by herself.
The Duke clutched at his head as he thought of morbid images.
His golden boy, who looked so innocent and pure, wasn’t anything close?
How could that be?!
The Duke’s heart was unreconciled as the thought took a shot at his vital organs.
“I—I did it with someone else!” Luca was frantic as he looked at Xavier, who was still sprawled on the floor.
The mountain giant had an unreadable expression, and Luca was so nervous he felt like he was about to barf.
In all this, Ollie, the good brother, was so scandalized he almost slipped from Kyle’s hold.
His good brother was unfaithful? This early?
Was Xavier a bad partner?!
But more than anything, the mop was concerned about the logistics of all this! Luca was together with them almost all the time, especially with those three who were from the same class!
‘So, just how was that poss…’ Ollie paused before repeating his last thought
‘…ible?’ then he looked up at Kyle and then at Jax.
These two.
The most likely culprits!
Ollie was mindblown! And, in his shock, he leaned back without notice.
Kyle was pulled out from his daze as the mop suddenly lurched back.
He was so dumbfounded at how he would explain to the Imperial Family that the Crown Prince was actually the Crown Princess.
Not that he would discriminated against, but just how was he supposed to file a report when any of this comes to light?
Kyle was so busy with his thoughts that he didn’t notice the monkey glaring at him with all his might.
On the other hand, Ollie thought Kyle was trying to mask his expression by ignoring his pointed stares.
A mark of a guilty person!
So, Ollie, convinced that his brother wouldn’t likely be a scumbag, had to ask if it was this person who was the bad influence.
“Kyle, was it you?”
“Huh?” Asked the semi-dazed adjutant.
“Were you unfaithful?”
In all of this, the supposed wiser adults, as well as the redheaded student, were confused by the turn of events.
How come the children of today were this adventurous?!
What happened to being a gentleman and an honest lover?!
And while the rest had such thoughts, Jax wondered if they could still visit the space after everything had been said and done.
