Chapter 141: Pop!
While Ollie and Kyle were having a very awkward stare-down, Luca frantically bit his lower lip in stress.
Even if the contract was still binding, what if Xavier thought poorly of him and would never again avail of his services?
He was his highest-paying customer and a very easy-to-please one at that!
Luca didn’t even get bad feedback when he whacked the benefactor on the head or when he ‘borrowed’ Sid for their transportation.
So, what could he do to retain his benefactor?
Xavier could tell that the little chipmunk was in turmoil, and frankly, he was, too. And what’s weirder was why he was that affected.
The mountain giant shook his head in an attempt to clear his crazy thoughts.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
By now, he should know better than to assume they were on the same page. Or maybe they were on the same page of different books.
For some reason, Xavier was really hoping that would be the case this time.
“Luca, what exactly did you do?” The Prince looked calm as he kept on telling himself, but his hands were clammy as he waited for an explanation.
Butler Gary felt like everything had come full circle.
And now they were watching their Young Lord get interrogated by the Lord’s apparent lover.
While they pitied the Lord, who had to undergo such an inquisition, they knew he needed to learn accountability! He just hoped their Young Lord wouldn’t end up in jail for this.
The little chipmunk wasn’t sure how to explain it because he didn’t exactly explain how he dealt with the corruption.
And Xavier made good on his promise not to ask about uncomfortable topics.
While he only used guiding pills for the Marshal, he actually guided Xavier and his father. And even if the methods weren’t the same, he felt that it was the principle that mattered.
So, instead of explaining, the hesitant guide decided to do a show and tell.
Xavier was surprised when Luca gripped the hand he was using to cover his face, and frankly, he couldn’t remember what expression he had when that happened.
All he could remember was the heat that coursed from their connected hands.
What?
Technically, this was Xavier’s first experience of being guided while he was free of contamination. For some reason, it felt like he had just ingested a relaxant or a soothing agent.
But he knew what Luca meant by this demonstration.
This was how he dealt with the corruption in his body.
No wonder the little chipmunk was stuck to him like glue.
Xavier looked at the regretful shorty, who was looking at him with hopeful and apologetic eyes.
Healing.
The little chipmunk meant healing.
While whatever Luca was doing certainly comforted him, learning the truth calmed his nerves.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
And if he was right, given how he fainted that one time after something similar happened, then did he mean he was healing the Duke?
It had to be that.
Sigh.
Any more of this, and he’d go insane.
Or worse, any more, and he’d derail this shorty’s life.
“I think we need to talk.”
Xavier looked at Luca, who’s eyes widened before looking at everyone.
Everyone already thinks he’s carrying the pot, so he might as well use it for now.
“Your Grace, I need to borrow your son for a while. I think we need to talk.”
Duke Leander stiffened at this.
His wife often used this line, which usually led to the discovery of his shenanigans. But since it seemed like his son was in the wrong, then they owed it to the pitiful guy.
So, the Duke could only nod as he watched his son being taken away.
Hopefully, they resolve it without having to go to jail.
But if anything, Xavier felt like he was the one who had to go to jail.
In the month they’d been around each other, he had always felt like there was always a disconnect.
It was just that he’d been ignoring anything that seemed uncomfortable.
Debates about treaties, war strategies, and combat styles were more his thing.
But how exactly was he supposed to deal with Luca, who he couldn’t even place?
The chipmunk was exceptional in many things, but at the same time, there were oddities here and there.
And Xacier thought they were quirks. Which noble didn’t have one?
But this guy seemed to have too many of them lately, and it’s driving him nuts.
There was a massive divide between what he heard and what he had seen. To the world, Luca Soren Kyros was a spendthrift philanderer, and for a moment, he thought he really was.
Definitely not a spendthrift but a giant flirt stuck in a petite body.
But after a month of being around him, he was sure that either he was possessed before or he was possessed now.
There was no extravagant bone in this guy’s body.
And while he seemed like the biggest flirt, he’d never heard a healer say they were unfaithful because they healed someone else.
A barber would probably say that, but Luca?
Xavier took a deep breath and chastised himself.
So much for being the Crown Prince when you couldn’t even face another student.
They could have teleported, but Xavier wanted to walk to figure out how to deal with the chipmunk, who looked ready to bolt under stress.
“We can talk in your house if you want,” Xavier noted how skittish Luca was again. He thought he’d come out of his shell already, but it seems like he’s really bothered today.
So, let’s go where he’d feel safer.
The house alone should’ve been a signal to Xavier.
Luca was able to move things in and out of the space, yet the little money-grubber didn’t furnish his house with more than what was necessary.
Even the additions were only because there were now four of them who dined together.
He’d never seen a noble, especially of Luca’s status, be this frugal, and that was saying something as the resident guardian of the Empire’s treasury.
So, who was this guy?
Xavier could only hope to find out.
All this time, Luca had been fretting about talking to Xavier.
While he had been nothing but kind, Luca had heard of Esper and Guide horror stories where Guides were nearly killed out of jealousy.
In particular, those bonded ones.
And Luca wasn’t sure if Xavier was an Esper because even now, he wasn’t sure if he himself was a Guide.
The little chipmunk was still lost in his thoughts the moment they arrived at his house.
He had many concerns, and for the first time in a while, he realized he was concerned about his safety.
Lately, he has been concerned about many different things, except for the one that used to be the source of his daily fear.
Had he been too comfortable?
Luca couldn’t help but wonder as he fidgeted in his seat.
But then did a full stop when Xavier started speaking.
“I think we started on the wrong foot. And if there is any hope of righting our wrongs, then we’re going to have to start talking.”
Xavier looked at Luca’s expression and watched as his eyes widened in mixed emotions.
“But to do this, I’m going to need to know who I’m talking to.”
“So, I hope you can tell me.”
“Who are you?”
“!”
