Chapter 150: Guild Base
It was the day the group decided to start their own guild, and Ollie was trying to fit himself in the crowd to see the posted requirements.
The mop suddenly wondered why they made it sound so complicated when it seemed like you only needed a Guild name, a licensed student mercenary, a base in the military, and the fee.
That sounded doable. Thought the only licensed first-year mechanic who drew the attention of the other students in the cafeteria.
When they got to the specifics, Ollie was surprised to see his good brother trembling in mortification.
“Luca, what’s wrong?!” Asked the mop, who immediately tried checking if his brother was injured somewhere.
But Luca’s injury was internal.
A gaping hole!
“Host! It seems like there is extortion going on in this Academy. Should it be reported?” Asked D-29, who noted the prices of land.
That was the killer.
TEN.
BILLION.
That was the starting price.
Which gets you a long-term lease for a dingy cabin and a cleared plot of land.
There were other more insane lots that had buildings and facilities that had even more zeroes in the price tag!
And Luca wanted to quit the moment he saw the cheapest option.
Maybe it was okay just to enter one of the established guilds because who would be insane enough to start their own?!
But apparently, there were several, such as his, uhm, husband.
Xavier didn’t blink when he saw the prices. They were the expected land prices for areas within the military base’s scope.
Given their proximity to the headquarters, the lots were prime real estate and were likely considered small strongholds.
In fact, he wouldn’t have to pay for anything when he owned a large chunk of it and would, in the end, be paying himself. But who told him to present himself as a typical noble who had to follow the rules?
But just as expected, he figured the little money grubber would have such violent reactions!
It was never a question of the account balance because the penny pincher would pout in protest even if their bank balance exceeded the item price by how many folds.
Cute.
Xavier was going to buy it for everyone, as he was the one with the intention of starting a new guild.
And a huge part of it would return to him anyway, as he was technically one of the landlords.
But Luca couldn’t do it.
Especially not when he saw it coming out of that account, which he dutifully guarded every night.
Xavier’s arm was suddenly pulled, and determined eyes looked at him.
“You—you can’t do that! It’s too much!” He really just wanted to join another guild, but Luca knew that Xavier needed an independent one.
“There are more affordable ones—also this one, can’t it be this one?” Luca pointed to the 10 billion lot that had never been rented before and said, it’s not like we’ll actually use it, right?

Actually, they would.
But in Luca’s mind, it was better to squeeze in together than fork out that much money!
This time, Xavier felt like he needed to tell Luca about barely having to pay, save for the taxes and maintenance fees that would go to the Empire’s treasury.
“Actually, we’d barely have to pay,” Xavier whispered as he explained the majority of the money would come back to the account because he actually owned the lot.
The little money grubber gasped as he heard about this sudden asset but almost immediately realized something worse.
“All the more then! We must only pick this one!” He was now perfectly convinced that they were meant for the 10 billion lot.
Huh? Xavier didn’t expect him to insist on it, even after learning that they’d barely even pay, only for Luca to go on his tippytoes to whisper something in Xavier’s ear.
“If we use it, that’s one less investment! You should let the others rent it instead so you earn more money!”
“…”
“We also won’t have to pay for the 10 billion lot, right? Then, that way, only a little is lost.” Luca made a gesture with his fingers, indicating very little. And that was all the loss that the little chipmunk was willing to take.
Xavier nearly lost it. It was difficult to reign in his laughter as he didn’t realize just how far the penny pincher would go.
But he gets it now. If anything, the Empire should probably prepare a great belt-tightening with this little guy.
So, that was how the Imperial Crown Prince, the heir to the House of Kyros, a Trading mogul’s heir, the Minister’s son, and a Tech giant’s successor ended up with the cheapest Guild base since the Academy’s establishment.
And sure, it made headlines in the school forum as Duke Leander’s heir only got the smallest plot of land for their Guild.
It was literally a clearing with a small hut that was probably just the size of a hovercraft garage.
But it was their base and was paid with blood! (not)
So, Luca figured it must be utilized properly!
Them entering the small hut gathered a handful of busybodies who wanted to see their expressions after inspecting the dingy base.
It was just that the students were surprised to learn that none who had entered came out even after several hours.
Of course, because it was straight to the door and into the space where this group would actually establish their Guild’s base.
“We still need to submit a name to officialize the Guild?”
Kyle reminded everyone about this requirement as the defacto secretary who would have to deal with all the documentation work.
“Is there a requirement for the names?” Luca asked, wondering if even this had specifications.
Ollie shook his head before saying, “None, really. It’s just that many of the popular guilds use animals in their guild names because it’s easier to make advertising materials for it!”
“Advertising?” Luca blinked up at his brother, who seemed like he was on to something.
“Yeah. It’s for the Astral Cup, which will be held about five months from now!” Exclaimed Ollie, who seemed excited about this particular event.
He figured he would ask D-29 to look into it, but Xavier beat him to the punch.
“It’s an interschool competition covering the Academies under the Hyperion Super Cluster. It’s about three-quarters long and boasts different types of matches every year.” Xavier pre-faced before telling Luca that they’ll watch a few of the games next time.
Luca’s curiosity was piqued because he’d always wondered about the other schools that weren’t busy having mass rallies relating to premarital sexual relationships as well as devils and the awakened.
But the mountain giant left out a crucial bit of information, as he didn’t want the chipmunk to obsess about it this early on.
If he was already that diligent in monitoring his wealth every night, then how were they supposed to deal with a chipmunk who would likely volunteer to sign up first? Especially once he learns more about the competition.
It’s cutthroat.
Unsimulated.
And a source of massive wealth.
Might as well sign them all up with that last bit alone!
