Chapter 151: Job Description
The new base was actually close to the size of Luca’s cabin and wasn’t even that bad in the eyes of the money-grubber.
But why did they even need a base?
“Brother, why did we have to pay so much to get a base? Aren’t we still students?” Luca had to ask Ollie, who once told him about the concept of mercenary guilds.
“Yeah, but most students who pass the exams are actually good enough to be in active service. So the classes wouldn’t be enough and can’t give practical experience.”
Theoretical knowledge can only get soldiers so far. After that, they need to be exposed to as many situations as possible to grow.
“It’s why many rely on their mission hours. And to get missions, sometimes the guilds end up with private clients who would go to their bases for a discussion.”
Oh.
Oh no.
“Clients? We’ll have clients?” Luca suddenly realized why the others got suitable bases.
Was this supposed to be their office?!
Luca didn’t think so because the school was closed to outsiders unless it was the weekend. He just didn’t know that this rule didn’t apply to the guild grounds.
“Ah yes, that’s basically it. This is currently our office. But we don’t really need to get private clients. They just pay more, so other guilds specifically go out to look for them.”
Xavier realized he should tape Kyle’s mouth today.
And the unsuspecting adjutant suddenly shivered as the temperature dropped.
And as expected, it was the Captain who’s eyes narrowed at him!
I knew it. I really should’ve just kept my mouth shut! Thought the assistant, who was just used to answering questions.
“It’s alright. The private clients wouldn’t come in right away because normally guilds need to be established enough for such proposals.” Xavier reassured, unaware that the little chipmunk was far more popular than anticipated.
“And if you’re thinking about that already, then I suggest we submit a name first because that’s the only way for the guild to show up in the registry.” Said the mountain giant to divert the attention of the budding businessman.
“About that…” Jax suddenly walked over with a list publicly shown in his terminal.
“I’m not so sure about these animals, but we’re not really allowed to repeat guild names, right?” The redhead scratched his chin as he looked at the list of two hundred fifty guilds that could make a zoo.
“Yeah, and that’s why people have gone as far as using insects like that Moonlight Mantis guild.” Kyle shrugged as he remembered how there was even a ‘Cosmic Cricket.’
“I don’t even understand why it has to have an animal. Here, we even have one called Horizon Traders Guild! That’s not an animal!” Ollie pointed out.
“Yeah, it’s because they also don’t join the Astral Cup,” confirmed Xavier.
“We could always do Supernova Spiders, you know?” Kyle said, and Ollie wanted to throw a shoe over at him as he felt like he was being reminded of their Spider escapade.
Luca’s face blanched at the thought of being named Supernova Spiders because he still had that lingering shadow from seeing that many eggs.
“It’s a shame we can’t recycle retired Guildnames, no? We could’ve used The Golden Phoenix since it’s the Duke’s old guild anyway!”
“?!”
“My father’s guild?” Luca murmured, and Xavier remembered he wouldn’t have any idea, considering his recent arrival.
Frankly, everyone heard it. And by now, even the most oblivious of them couldn’t ignore the little things about the Duke and Luca’s interactions.
But no one would comment. Not when he’s not ready to talk about it.

It’s just that Kyle realized that the Captain must know something.
The Prince, who could survive saying nothing in a week, had already used up a year’s worth of words in a day just preemptively explaining what was supposed to be common knowledge.
“The House of Kyros once maintained the Golden Phoenix Guild, but a while back, he had to retire the group for health reasons. And since it was retired, it would stay in the hall of fame and cannot be recycled.”
Luca was surprised to know that his father once led a guild and figured he would ask for advice one day.
He may know how to gain more private clients!
But to do that, they must think of a name.
Actually, Luca had a suggestion from before he heard that everyone used animals, but decided to shelve it. However, when he heard that even the otters and the badgers had been taken, he figured he could ask if his idea was possible.
It’s just that he was shy because he didn’t even pay for their office!
The mountain giant’s recent pastime was to watch Luca’s micro-expressions. The little chipmunk was not one to easily voice his concerns. He’d have to observe well if he wanted to figure out what was going through the money grubber’s mind.
Like right now.
Luca’s face kept switching from determined to discouraged, and that’s likely an indication of being unsure about a suggestion.
Sometimes, the little chipmunk would be insanely confident, like when he said something about making a guild, but other times, he’d doubt himself for things as small as an examination fee.
So, Xavier figured he needed encouragement and that it was okay to tell everyone what he was thinking.
“Do you have a name in mind?” He looked at the little chipmunk, who was surprised to be asked.
“Well, I do, but it doesn’t have an animal on it…”
Luca fiddled with his hands as he continued, “I was going to suggest ‘Dungeon Guardians’ because there are actually two more friends who couldn’t join officially. And I think they would’ve liked to had it been possible.”
The little chipmunk thought of the Dungeon’s system and the Guardian Mecha, who had always been with them but couldn’t really be on the roster.
And thought that since they were using the Dungeon most of the time anyway, then maybe they could use such a name.
“But maybe we should think—”
“Oh, that’s better then! I was going to suggest we use crop or fruit names, but I felt like it would be unfair to my children if I only picked one. But if it’s like this, then it’s all of them since they’re all in there.” Jax nodded in approval.
Luca just solved his dilemma between using fruits and vegetables. And while he loved them all equally, they cannot use a very long guild name.
Of course, Ollie was good with anything his brother suggested, as someone who was willing to even deal with the Crown Prince without much explanation.
“Actually, this still fits. My mecha could be an animal sometimes.” Xavier smirked as he supported the chipmunk’s idea.
“Well, this should be good because right now, this is literally what we’re doing anyway!” Kyle thought it was pretty much their current job description and would fit better than the ‘Dazzling Swans.’
Also, he would not need to check against all the existing and retired names, and he would not even have to check whether it would offend a particular animal conservation group.
It was less work, which equaled fewer mistakes.
Now, all he had to do was ignore the fact that one of these ‘friends’ was likely Sid, the Empire’s guardian mecha, while the other one was someone who was likely watching all of them since the beginning.
Now, if he could ignore that, he’d be able to sleep peacefully.
