Chapter 166: Office Renovation
The client meeting was for the next day.
THE.
NEXT.
DAY.
Luca, the inexperienced guild leader, realized they had absolutely nothing in their office!
Not even a desk or a single stool!
And has the place even been dusted?!
Oh no!
The little chipmunk shot up from his bed, effectively waking up Xavier, who was sensitive to sudden movements.
Luca was going nuts, and understandably so, as this was their first-ever customer!
First impressions last!
Well, they do, but if anyone’s first impression of him lasted longer than necessary, then he wouldn’t be here right now.
The little chipmunk was off the bed, preparing to go into the bathroom to rush out.
“Luca? Is there something wrong? It’s the middle of the night?” Xavier asked, his voice a little husky from suddenly waking up.
Luca was frantic and practically cannonballed over to the surprised Xavier, who thought he’d have to catch the small animal.
“Now, can you tell me what’s wrong?” Asked the Prince, who only had one azure eye open.
“Our office. It… it sucks!” blurted the little chipmunk.
And for a moment, the newly awakened Prince had to think about this ‘office.’
Ah.
The guild base.
Well, they got what they paid for.
“We could fix it up if you want so it wouldn’t be that bad.”
He tried to reassure the golden dragon, but money was on the line, and he should’ve known better.
“We can’t go right now because the curfew is still being implemented, but we can try preparing a few things so we could just put them up tomorrow.”
But they underestimated the ‘office’.
It wasn’t just bad.
It was barely holding on.
If a strong breeze blew, there was a high probability they’d lose the cover over their heads.
This was based on the surveillance they’re looking at right now.
Ideally, they were thinking of checking the place and the blueprints to buy some furniture that could be delivered before the client arrived.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
But where would they place them? Would it even hold?
After all, when they went in the other day, they didn’t bother to look around and just entered the space almost immediately.
Regrets!
Regrets everywhere!
The little businessman was devastated.
He didn’t think such a decision would impact them negatively like this!
Xavier saw this and could only watch the despondent chipmunk who was drooping everywhere.
He actually looked like slime at this point.
He figured he’d comfort the little guy and already had his hand out to pat his head when the slime suddenly straightened like a pole!
“?!”
“What is it?” Wondered Xavier, who had to retract his outstretched hand
Luca was given new hope when D-29 suddenly asked why buying a new office was impossible when one could just purchase pocket dimensions and have new space.
Of course, the little system was unaware that it wasn’t just a matter of unlogged information but the fact that people don’t just pull out pocket dimensions when they want to.
Even Xavier was surprised.
He was able to use space abilities because it was an ability he inherited from his mother.
So when he was told that they were going into the space for a bit of office shopping, the unprepared husband didn’t know which currency to prepare.
It was apparently the corrupted kind.
One that he used to give to the little money-grubber.
No wonder he was popular with this fellow back then.
When Luca gave permission clearances to Xavier and the other guys, they were surprised to see an actual shop.
While the storefront was holographic, the products weren’t.
They were real, just like when Xavier rushed out with the revive pill that he grabbed from the designated box.
It was just that, now, he could see what was being sold.
Everything.
And suddenly, the original point farm could see how appealing he must’ve looked before.
Wait.
‘…’
Was he unappealing now?
Come to think of it. This little chipmunk used to grab at him before, but now, he hasn’t even gotten that close.
Like he’s lost interest?
Was that even possible? Or was it because he was now corruption-free?
But then he remembered he could still provide the little guy with pure energy, so maybe it wasn’t a lost cause.
Xavier had to shake his head to clear of such unwanted thoughts. Who would want to second-guess themselves at this hour? And to compare himself against the corruption of all things?
He was probably going nuts.
It must be the lack of sleep.
Unlike one serious chipmunk who was busy picking from what looked like five-pocket dimensions.
Unsurprisingly, some of them cost more than an arm and a leg, and while Luca still had 222,100CP, there was no way he was buying that underwater pocket dimension.
Not for 200,000CP!
So he, the penny pincher, was really just looking at the cheapest ones.
But D-29 cautioned that most offices it saw on Star Net weren’t set on a catacomb and was therefore obligated to advise that the cheapest one at 35,000CP probably wouldn’t be ideal.
Luca could only sigh and figure that he would have to buy the next one, which was a garden pocket dimension.
It was 50,000CP, and Xavier watched as the little money grubber fought with himself before he succumbed to buying it.
What actually helped was the prompt that reminded them of the upcoming meeting.
Seems like customer service was strong on this one, and if he wanted the same reaction, he’d likely have to maintain his status as the best benefactor.
The prince wasn’t even aware, but maybe he’s gone as off the rail as the wife who was busy clutching his gut from the loss of CP.
“Host, to run the pocket dimension smoothly, kindly bring a few Energy Crystals.”
And if the Elders were privy to this scenario, they would’ve marveled at the display of wealth!
But they wouldn’t be the only ones.
Because from then on, the tiny shack of one particular guild would be spoken about in hushed yet fervent whispers.
