Chapter 237: Sheep
Chapter 237:
“19638765219 Sheep”
“19638765218 Sheep”
“19638765217 Sheep”
D-29 had been faithfully counting sheep, as per Sid’s recommendation (assertion), until the guardian mecha realized what was happening.
Apparently, it was crucial to maintain focus on counting sheep until Sid said the counting could stop, or else something bad might happen.
And so, D-29 persevered and obeyed.
Although the little system would normally ignore the suggestions, after Sid clocked it like that, the fledgling mecha decided to change its approach.
For what if Sid was right?
But what both Sid and D-29 did not expect was to hear an order from Xavier on the 19638765213rd sheep.
“D-29, Please hand over Luca’s XXX Book.”
“???” D-29 loaded for a while before asking its Host if the order should be followed.
But before the little system could prompt the Host, the Prince added in an intriguing line.
“Hand it over and I will get you the latest collection of language translators, so you can connect and even understand as many of the known languages.”
Now the little system slowed its processes, clearly assessing that this was going to be beneficial to the Host in the long run and decided to hand-over the book that the Host didn’t even use.
Yes.
It was all for the good of the Host.
If D-29 could learn more languages, there would be more dramas, err, information it could read to aid its Host.
Sid, on the other hand, could only watch this, unsure of who to judge.
Was it the master who prepared a bribe?
Or the system that was clearly crazy?
But Sid knew better than to use the connection to run processes right now and decided to go back to counting sheep.
For who knows what would happen with that XXX book out when even the original master wasn’t sure about his plan.
__
Sid was right.
Xavier, for the most part, wasn’t exactly sure how this would go. But one thing was for sure: Luca could not go on thinking that someone else was needed to help them tend to their issues.
Imagine having more contenders when the husband himself could barely find time with the little chipmunk?
Xavier’s eyes narrowed at the thought, and Luca caught the changes in his expression.
“I—is there something wrong?” Asked Luca nervously as the Prince didn’t exactly look alright.
“No.”

It was an answer that came too fast, like a conditioned response, and Xavier had to breathe through it as he backtracked.
“Actually, yes. It’s probably not a big one for now. But I’d rather not take any chances.”
This in itself was a big deal for Xavier. As the Imperial Crown Prince, he was raised to automatically answer “no” to questions like that.
It wasn’t because he was going to lie but because these problems should’ve been solved before word even got out.
However, the problem was definitely not handled and could even fester if he ignored it, for ideals were far more difficult to deal with than other issues.
So, Xavier decided to be honest, which so far, worked best for dealing with Luca.
“It’s about needing other people. Or as you said, it is about needing women.”
Luca sank a bit; for some reason, he didn’t like the sound of it. But if Xavier wants to discuss it—
“We don’t need women for this problem, nor would we need them for procreation, well not anymore.”
“?!”
What? Luca was started as both things clearly rocked his very small worldview.
“What do you mean?”
“It’s because humans have long prioritized procreation technology to ensure the safety of our population after multiple threats that nearly wiped out humanity.”
History books show those as the Dark Ages.
During this time, human lifespans were much shorter, and childbirth complications were prevalent, especially for women who had to carry babies with naturally high spiritual energy ratings.
When they were rich in energy sources, the children would take energy from the outside, but when there was nothing to take, they would start unconsciously parasitizing the mother.
And that was just one issue and yet countless women had sacrificed to get everyone to this point.
So how could they still require women to bear this burden, especially with the increasing stakes?
However, that was just one of the many issues, as the real clincher was our ability to evolve and adapt.
For how could we fend off other species who could procreate every time they sneezed? And what about even worse catastrophes like plagues?
Xavier continued his explanation, and by now, Luca had been sitting up with his big eyes clearly showing his interest in the topic.
“The biggest changes occurred with the onset of corruption. For a very long while, no one could risk naturally producing offspring from people who were contaminated by corruption in fear of mutating the children.”
“But you can just imagine how big of a population that is.”
It was a tragic number, one that revolutionized medicine through sheer desperation.
“However, thanks to technologies from other civilizations and species, humans have found ways to allow for safe conception and gestation while having no gender limitations”
“And you’re saying anyone can do it?” Luca asked in bewilderment, as this was clearly different from what the school taught.
“In a sense, yes, but the parents are assessed for suitability.”
And the requirements are strict. But who could they blame when it was clear that all children deserve to have parents but some parents don’t deserve their kids.
“Wow.” Luca thought how amazing that was and how at least these babies would know they were wanted because people fought to have them.
Xavier wasn’t sure what it was, but Luca looked far away for a moment, so he ruffled his hair, hoping to pull him back.
“Luca, that was one of the concerns I wanted to address. But more importantly, I think you need to learn more about the capabilities of our bodies.”
At this, Xavier raised the XXX book he obtained by bribery which instantly reminded Luca of earlier.
“Wha—why do you need that?” shivered Luca, who was still concerned about that book.
“Because I think it’s time we review this book. I believe you’ll understand what I mean if you give this—us- a chance.”
Luca started turning red again, he could feel the heat rising from his toes and all the way to his forehead as if wanting to poof above his head.
“B…but this book is for those bonded pairs,” the little Guide stammered.
Xavier’s hands honestly felt clammy, but he still mustered to spit out.
“Are we not married, Luca?”
Luca’s eyes quivered as he looked over to the sincere Xavier.
“We are, but h—how?”
He felt like overheating. for Luca was not sure how Xavier could even want to review that book when he couldn’t even find the courage to turn to the next page.
“You’re not comfortable with reading the book, is that the problem?”
Yes!
Luca’s pleading eyes shined as Xavier understood his concerns.
His hands would keep on shaking whenever he even touched it so he was likely not going to pass if the Prince tested him on the subject matter.
It was impossible to review it.
“There’s nothing to worry about. All you need to do is to cooperate while I show you.”
“!”
“Show me?!”
“Yeah. I am your husband, am I not? If there’s anyone who can teach you things like this, it should only be me, right?”
If it was possible to grow fangs and more fur, Xavier was really going to turn into a wolf, but in his mind, if he did not turn into one, his sheep would likely go and look for a woman!
The little Guide nodded slowly, he felt very light-headed, like he was being kissed and enveloped even when Xavier was atleast inches away.
“So, will you allow this husband to show you, Luca?”
