Chapter 252: Mind-Blown
And what a good decision that was, as who would’ve expected the onset of addiction?!
Well, everyone but the little cook, Luca.
For the moment, the taste testers took their first bite. They knew that this alone could start a revolution or ten.
And if anything, Jax had even been more resolute in heading out to farm for corruption so that they could finally do something about their butter problem.
For everything this butter touched resonated with his soul.
So, if these more cultured food tasters liked it, what more for the others who were new to the concept of such food?!
This was precisely why the Patriarchs of the Empire’s Dukedoms were in complete attendance, save for Duke Leander, who purposely couldn’t attend unless he wanted to be asked questions until his life withered away.
For one, Duke Caius Azren had an inkling the moment he saw the fruits. Thankfully, he was one of those who maintained a warhorse as his beloved pet.
However, how he’d be able to get that horse to go to war after all the pampering it had experienced today was something he’d have to deal with in the future.
But that would have to wait after he’d gotten a taste of this food for brunch.
Honestly, many of these nobles started panicking as they felt uncultured, not knowing about half the things being mentioned, or how they’d slurp or eat too excitedly, which was likely something most nobles wouldn’t do.
But no one seemed to care. And if even the Princess had no idea what “Brunch” was, then who were they to know?
However, all these thoughts about trying to pump themselves up were apparently unnecessary as the dish before them leveled the playing field.
Every time a plate was set down, the golden disks jiggled, and a few nobles panicked.
What if the source of this soul-shaking scent were to collapse with all that jiggling?!
After all, it was piled high, with each plate containing about four of these golden fluffy disks with edges that were a bit golden-brown.
The plate also had a few of these things called “berries,” and some gasped in recognition as they remembered them from the famous Star Mall store.
However, they didn’t expect to be taught about this butter and syrup.
Now, this was a job that Jax volunteered for. Although no one would really steal the post, he graciously fought for it and won.
In his mind, these people must not fail at using butter, or hell would start.
This may sound exaggerated, but when the other food tasters got their pancakes, they used up all their butter for the top pancake, and only for the top pancake.
It was heartbreaking.
And it was a disaster, for people were starting to eye each other’s butter allotment, which fueled the rehashing of historical fights. And while no butter was taken that day, arguments that had been buried for decades started resurfacing.
So, this had to be nipped in the bud. And what better way to do this than to explain the importance of pacing and allocation?
“???”
Little Nina was very surprised to see her brother Jax talking about pacing and allocation.
Two things that his Big Brother said that weren’t part of Jax’s vocabulary, and yet here he was passionately teaching them about this!
And the Princess taught how magnificent it was that such a thing could also make people smarter.
Smarter and more desperate, in fact.
For when the person with the highest noble status finally decided to take her first bite, the others were finally able to taste a bit of heaven.

Or at least the clouds.
The first bite was a revelation of warmth and comfort. Unlike the nutrient solution that only ignored temperature, the warmth of this alone was a new sensation.
It was like a pillow, one that didn’t stay for long as it dissolved in practically no time. And then they tasted it with that butter and syrup that almost had the others shaking in their boots as they poured it on their own. And a few people probably let out moans of satisfaction.
In that moment, things like self-consciousness, table manners, and even status didn’t matter as people just zeroed in on the golden stacks before them.
One would think they’d recover after the round stacks turned into half-moons or once they were left with the last bite or two, but the reality was that these people were fundamentally changed after all the disks were gone.
Just like Jax expected.
And just like their Guild Treasury was expecting.
Soon enough, transactions kept on coming in, prompting Luca to go to the back shed to see what was wrong with his terminal.
But it wasn’t a malfunction or an emergency, but the best sound of Ka-ching, Ka-ching!
“!!!”
What a good day!
It has been so long. And while the Guild owned this money, it was money that they could actually use for Guild-related business!
And the little money grubbers’ face flushed in excitement as he wanted to share this development with everyone!
Like Xavier, who was leaning by the door of the shed as he waited for Luca.
The little chipmunk almost stumbled as he thought how Xavier was right about this concept of a taste that would trigger more cravings instead of satisfaction.
But of course, how would he not know when the Prince himself was a running experiment of getting a taste, only to drive himself crazier instead?
And now, like him, they were craving more and would likely be willing to sacrifice as much as possible to ensure success.
Like the Prince, who was willing to make more money in all different currencies just to see the smile that guy makes whenever a coin was added to his balance.
“Xavier!” Waved at the excited little chipmunk who wanted to show off their new treasury balance.
“You’re back? How was it?” He had a faint smile, one that grew bigger as he tidied the stray hairs that threatened Luca’s eyes.
“It was just as you said! They really started sponsoring bigger amounts! I even saw one that was for 70 billion!” Said the excited money grubber, who was practically vibrating as he said this.
“How can I even thank you enough?! It was such a good idea!” Luca smiled, his golden eyes turning into vibrant crescents.
“That’s not hard,” said the wolf in a Prince’s body.
“Just this would be enough.” He tapped a finger against his cheek, and Luca, who normally shouldn’t be affected by this, visibly reddened.
It was because this wasn’t the first time Xavier did that gesture after that day when they did…something.
Every once in a while, when it was just the two of them, the cunning wolf would ask for his hand, a smooch, or sometimes a hug.
And Luca would give it because he, too, liked how it felt.
So, the little chipmunk who had to tiptoe a bit reached for his husband’s cheeks with his lips, only for the much taller giant to turn slightly and get a smooch on the mouth.
“!!!”
Luca’s head wanted to poof.
While Xavier smiled, or more like smirked, really.
But unexpectedly, it wasn’t only Luca who wanted to poof, but one little Princess who landed on her behind after witnessing something she probably shouldn’t have seen.
“!!!”
