Chapter 271: The Perfect Home
When Duke Leander of Kyros arrived back at the Dungeon space, he had prepared himself for a glorious reunion.

He had longed to see his son and even practiced his lines with hints of restrained tears. Duke Leander even wore his second-best embroidered cape to signify that he had returned safely from his perilous journey to negotiate for materials.

His precious Luca may have missed him, or worse, worried for him.

So he had to look his best, or at least second best.

What he didn’t expect was to be greeted by a wooden sign that read:

“ALL HAIL THE DAIRY QUEEN”

“What in the name of heavens was this?!”

The Duke had to recheck the house he exited from, and sure enough, it was his place, so what exactly was this flower-strewn path by his house?

Has his son missed him so much that he had this made? Thought the Duke, who almost shed tears.

Only to find that it led to a new building. It wasn’t tall by all means, but was rather large as it took up space, so much more space than the other buildings that the Duke couldn’t help but wonder about this new contraption.

“???”

But then he saw someone familiar, a red-haired young lad who looked altogether too blissful.

“Jax. What’s happening?”

“Oh! Your Grace!” said Jax, who smiled in reverence. Now, of whom would be a good question?

“Come quickly, Your Grace! You’re just in time for the second session!”

“The what?”

“It is our dear Lulu!” Exclaimed Jax, who ran inside in a hurry.

But upon entering the odd building, he heard the voice he had missed for the past days.

“Papa!”

Luca’s voice cut through all his questions. His son jogged over, expression bright, cheeks slightly flushed.

For some reason, he wore something questionable. It seemed to be a new apron, it was just that it suspiciously looked like the photos that hung all over.

Duke Leander wanted to ignore it initially, but if his son was even in on this craze, then he must find out how his boy had been lured in!

“Son, what happened?”

“Oh Papa, we bought a cow.”

“A what—?”

But before Duke Leander could start his interrogation, Luca’s hesitant yet outstretched hands held something out.

“I saved you a bottle.”

It was a small glass bottle. Sealed. Chilled. A handwritten label was on it: For Papa.

The touched father accepted it as if accepting a medal from the Emperor.

Heart full, the Duke decided to uncork the bottle before taking a cautious sip.

Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".

Only to suddenly stagger.

Heaven.

It tasted like sunbeams and felt similar to when he had a picnic with his wife. It tasted like something he should be paying taxes for.

“Son, what is this?” He asked incredulously.

“It’s part of the first batch of milk we got from Lulu. I thought you would want to taste it too, so I saved some for you, Papa.”

And that was when he understood why all those photos were on display.

Clearly, they lacked a statue. How distressing!

Especially after seeing the being in all her glory.

Duke Leander’s knees nearly gave out when he first laid eyes on Lulu. She was a vision of majesty, with that coat and soulful eyes.

Or maybe it helped that the barn’s lighting was clearly biased.

But that was not something that the Duke, or anyone else, would notice.

Save for Sid.

Yeah, save for him.

But what could the Guardian Mecha do? Nothing.

Not even when the Master had been coaxed into upgrading the barn three times.

In a row.

But surprisingly, his original master said nothing to stop this madness.

That was a given, though, for how could he stop his little chipmunk who had only hesitated for two seconds when spending this time around.

He didn’t even cry or whine.

He had matured. Or maybe it was just because he wanted the best for Lulu.

And so the barn which initially had the features that impressed even Elder Pao Xi, was elevated to the best it could be as of the moment.

From the initial 150,000 CP they were expecting to pay, the barn ended up using 700,000 CP.

Basically the cost of a mecha.

But how could they say it was a waste after they ended up with a facility that got the Elder excited?

It had lactation monitoring, an automatic milk parlor, self-cleaning stalls, and even a dung processor.

Not to mention, the automatic feeder assesses the cow’s needs before combining the feed.

Even that cattle scratcher was top of the line.

It was as impressive as it was costly. And Luca only hesitated for two seconds after Jax and Ollie pleaded for Lulu’s case.

But what made it all worth it, aside from Lulu’s satisfaction, was the fact that it had a section for calves. If they ever needed it, they could actually start getting a few more cows the moment they were ready.

Duke Leander listened to the upgrades and nodded as his son explained the reasoning behind the staggering purchase.

“We must fund the next barn, son.”

“But, Papa, for now, there is no next barn.”

“There must be.” He insisted.

But what do you know? There really was, just for a totally different creature.

However, that was for after they settled in this current craze.

They couldn’t even get to making butter because Lulu’s milk couldn’t satisfy these milk-deprived beings.

Especially after discovering strawberry milk.

One that Luca thought that a little Princess might also like. But maybe after getting it tested safe for kids.

Because Luca had a guess.

A very strong hunch.

“Please,” he told everyone, “you might all want to control how much you drink at once. We’re not sure if some of you might be lactose intolerant.”

But they all scoffed.

Until they couldn’t

And only then were they thankful for their individual bathrooms.

However, instead of the incident scaring them away from dairy products, the day actually ended with another 100,000 CP for a creamery that promised to churn out different products from the already glorious milk.

His CP balance may have ended up being 3,557,100 CP, but it was a balance that he could stomach.

Wrong.

For tomorrow was another spending day.
