Chapter 284: The Gathering
The frantic Ollie felt better.
Not exactly fine, but his throat felt like it had unclogged. However, his eyes weren’t faring so well—still threatening to gush from exhaustion, adrenaline, and all these swelling feelings.
Especially after realizing what it meant for him to be fine.
“…”
“But the mister and the child back there aren’t fine!” He suddenly drooped, remembering the people left behind and his pinky promise.
But there was no time for a pity party.
That was for much later.
This was his mission.
He must see this through!
And so, because of course he would, Ollie pulled back just enough to launch into a full-on reenactment of the nightmare he’d just escaped.
“Okay—okay—so there’s this big guy,” he said, voice deepening as he puffed up his chest.
“‘LISTEN UP! Unless you wanna watch this kid get it, you’re gonna flush out the coward nobles hiding in the vents like rats!'”
Kyle blinked.
Ollie switched voices immediately, slumping into a whimpery falsetto. “‘No, mister! Let me go! I wanna go back to my dad!’ And the pirate—he whacks the dad! Like, WHACK! Full-on sound effects thud!”
He mimed the motion—arms flailing wildly.
“I was just above them, watching!” His eyes widened, hands gripping his own cheeks as if still in disbelief.
“And the dad, Kyle, THE DAD!”
“He reached out like this—” Ollie dramatically stuck his hand out, pinky trembling—”and then fell while bleeding from the injuries he got!”
“I—I almost passed out from secondhand trauma!” Ollie’s face contorted as he stared, suddenly lost in earlier memories.
Kyle tried not to smile. He really did.
But it was hard not to when Ollie was pulling full performance-level drama on the floor, right in front of the entrance to his cabin.
Until the little mop in his arms went quiet.
His breath slowed. His eyes dropped. His voice dimmed.
The accusations. The blame. The Guild’s name being used in that way?
That was the part he hadn’t wanted to reenact. The part that clung to his mind like cold water that made his stomach turn.
Kyle noticed the shift immediately. This flashing light bulb probably remembered parts he didn’t particularly like. He sighed and ruffled Ollie’s hair with the same comforting touch he’d used many times before.
“Hey,” he muttered, voice soft. “It’s a good thing you didn’t get caught. You made it here. You’re getting help for all of them.”
Ollie squinted at him, not totally convinced.
“…If I had gotten caught, you’d at least try to pay my ransom, right?” he asked cautiously.
“I’d maybe bid. No guarantees.”

“Wait. So I am affordable?!” Ollie gasped, appalled.
Kyle facepalmed again, this time without words.
“What? Do I look like I don’t have money? So, if I could ransom you, then that means they put you up for too little?!” Asked the adjutant, who had to cover his eyes in exasperation.
“No, well, maybe! You don’t buy things! And there’s barely anything in your room!” reasoned the shorty, who was wondering if Kyle really even used his dorm.
The allegedly poor bed spacer just let his head fall back against the floor.
“You say that like it’s not a good thing. You have so many things that if I had anything more, then where would people walk?!”
Kyle had succeeded in distracting him at the expense of his financial standing. Thankfully, the heavens hadn’t thoroughly abandoned him.
So, just as Ollie was about to pepper him with questions about his savings account, as if summoned by divine timing, people started filing in—followed by a chaos of boots, aprons, water droplets, and grim faces.
Luca, his barn apron still on, practically teleported, arriving first, followed by Xavier, who had the same ability within the space. The Prince looked composed, but his aura radiated violence.
Then Jax appeared, his hands still covered in rich garden soil, followed by Duke Leander and Butler Gary, who were soaked, looking like they had been fished out of a river mid-swing as water dripped onto the small pavement.
They didn’t speak at first—just saw Ollie on the floor, tangled up with Kyle, blinking up with shiny eyes.
“!!!”
“Brother!” Luca was already kneeling, looking over at Ollie like a worried parent.
The hug was tight and emotional—Luca checking him over like he might vanish.
“I’m okay!” Ollie blurted, face buried in his good brother’s shoulder. “But I need to borrow some weapons.”
“…What?”
“And revive pills! Just two! I’ll pay back the CP!”
That froze everyone.
“What?” Kyle snapped.
Ollie nodded. “I mean, I have to come back there, right? After all, I promised, but I figured I’d buy time before you all get there. You are coming over, right?” Ollie looked at them with eyes that realized he just assumed this part.
“You absolute nut—” Kyle hissed. “What were you planning on doing, going back there, guns blazing?!”
He looked around.
Everyone stared.
“Owwww!” Ollie the nut reacted as Kyle flicked his forehead.
“I was planning bombs blazing, but that could also work! And why are you being mean? I even came here to…prep, y’know?! It’s by the jump point from the Capital. I’ll only have to buy us all a short time if you get there fast enough!”
“If it’s that jump point, then it will take about 20 minutes if we use the Duchy’s clearance.” Said Duke Leander.
Jax raised a hand, still wiping dirt on his pants. “Wait. I have a question!”
“If we can bring in people through our cabin portals, then are we also allowed to bring people out through different exits? Like with the Sanctuary?”
“I was just wondering if it was possible just to use Ollie’s cabin portal? So we can just get there without travelling?”
“…”
“…”
They all paused.
Luca’s eyes widened.
“What?” Jax looked around at the people who looked at him like he was saying something so out of this world.
But it really was out of this world, for these people didn’t think about this.
Getting all too used to using their own cabins to enter and to exit.
D-29’s prompt suddenly flickered, already calculating. “Host! This is confirmed. Exiting via Lord Ollie’s cabin is possible. Outbound jump protocol active at the cost of 10,000 CP per person.”
Jax whistled low. “That’s steep.”
“It’s fine,” Luca said coldly.
They all turned to look at him. This was rare, and much rarer was the current expression that he had on his face.
The warmth was gone from those eyes that normally radiated gentleness and glee.
Instead, the same golden eyes simmered, no longer soft. The apron somehow made him look even more terrifying, like a rancher walking calmly toward vengeance.
“Someone tried to bait my brother using a child,” he said softly.
Ollie blinked.
Tears welled again—but this time, not out of fear. But because his good brother did not think twice about using CP for him.
He sniffled once and wiped his face on Luca’s apron.
“…Can I still have a sword?”
Luca gently ruffled his hair. “Maybe two particle saws, brother.”
And maybe that was a good decision, for one would never know.
Just as one waiting chief of staff didn’t see this coming, well, more like, not this soon.
And definitely not like this.
