Chapter 36: Roommate
The small room was like a conference hall, with more and more people coming in.
By then, it wasn’t just the Towel guy and the people from the duchy that were inside with Luca. The ones who went with the school staff also returned to see the stand-off.
Thankfully, no one started to throw punches.
If anything, Luca’s concern would probably be in-fighting between the Butler’s group. The new people realized something was up when they saw their fellow subordinates looking extra smug.
One such person was Steward Han, who lost against Butler Gary for the right to look for their Lord.
He could smell something fishy with how the guards looked extra motivated. And he vowed to find out about it later.
Meanwhile, with everyone standing inside and by the door of this small dorm room, it was actually the school staff who was most confused of the bunch.
They knew their guest wanted to meet the Lord of their family for something like his personal mecha. The mecha was essential for the course and survival, so they hesitantly allowed them to find him. And because it was so valuable, they could understand why they didn’t want to send it via courier.
If only they knew what else was coming from their school via drone couriers.
Normally, the school was closed to visitors unless it was the weekend.
But who asked them to be tempted by important resources? At times like this, they would be stupid to reject goodwill, especially from reputable people like the Duke of Kyros.
Moreover, the staff liked that they didn’t need to tell these people about boundaries. For example, when the afternoon bell sounded, the people from the duchy volunteered to leave by themselves.
There was no fuss, and everyone was cordial. In fact, they may have been a little too cordial. The regular dorm administrators couldn’t really match their hulking physiques to the docile people before them.
But that wasn’t a problem they should be focusing on.
What was more alarming was the pointed look they were getting from Xavier Montclair.
Which staff member didn’t know about the notorious number 1 of the Junior Academy?
If anything, he would have also ranked first on the last exam had the mission not been extended far longer than expected.
But anyone who’s been here a while would know that he was the legitimate title holder. As normal administrators, these people would be no match for this guy’s wrath.
They were just lucky that despite being a noble and the top student, Xavier was never one to throw around his weight to get what he wanted. He didn’t even take the custom mecha that was supposed to be a reward for his rank.
If there was anything notable about him, it was that he would use his influence to get himself and his small team into military missions as a mercenary.
When he first did that, most instructors were questioning his desire for an early death, but his skills soon convinced them of this kid’s intentions.
And then there was one other thing that he asked for: a solo dorm room and nothing else.
So, now that the heir to the Dukedom of Kyros was standing next to the ice-cold Xavier, the staff’s teeth couldn’t help but clatter in fear.
With the people from the duchy gone, the staff felt better about talking to Xavier about his new roommate.
“I see that you’ve got me a roommate during my absence?” Xavier asked, his voice modulated but carried a very chilling tone.
Even Luca, who had been ignored to the side, shivered at that one line. How much worse do these people have it?
“About that, it was done after trying everything. It was just that with the current conscription edict, all the dorm rooms, including the temporary ones, have been assigned.” A brave soul answered for the staff, and anyone looking would wonder why this young man had so much presence that he could scare off the staff like this.
“Uhm, excuse me?” Luca suddenly raised a hand, wanting to free himself from this awkward situation.
“If it’s too much trouble, maybe I could just look for another room? Anywhere’s fine, really.” Anywhere but here with that scary guy! As someone who lived in a tank, he could handle even the broom cabinet!

But D-29 had other plans, as he let out an alarm as if a fire was going off.
“What? What’s wrong?!” Luca asked in his mind, wanting to see what triggered D-29.
“Host! That’s a bad idea! If possible, you should stay close to that guy! We can get CP points from him! As of now, he’s our only lead.”
“Please stick to him as much as you can!” D-29 pleaded, and Luca wanted to collapse.
The system could say that because it wasn’t the one directly receiving this chilling feeling. It wasn’t its ass at stake, nor did it seemingly molest the towering soldier.
CP or not, Luca did not want to be next to this guy for fear of his fragile life. But the staff weren’t in agreement and probably wanted him dead.
“As much as you want such a thing to happen, there are really no other rooms available.”
Even the dorms that would be donated would take time to be constructed, so they really had no other choice! None of them would’ve risked such a thing if they had other options!
Not to mention, the other students didn’t want to room with the Duke’s son, who had an abysmal reputation from the get-go.
However, even as the staff looked at him squarely, they couldn’t really associate the description with the same student.
Even the most poised and put together amongst the staff wouldn’t hold a candle to this young man. If he was supposed to be a delinquent noble, then surely some of them should be classified as hoodlums.
It wasn’t just because of his appearance, but since they arrived, the young man hadn’t really done anything close to the antics that frequently came up with his name.
Where were the flying vases and the overbearing personality? He was supposed to be a take first, talk later kind of heir, but the staff reckoned that if they touched his delicate hand, he might break!
They were taken out of their contemplation when Xavier spoke begrudgingly.
“Fine. Stay until other arrangements can be made.”
The staff sighed in relief before rushing to say their sad excuses for goodbyes. No one wanted to remain standing in case the guy changed his mind.
So, in the end, only Luca and Xavier were left in the room.
It honestly looked like a boxing match, with each one standing by a corner. The only difference was Luca wanted to raise the white flag before the game even began.
“Hello,” Luca murmured, feeling like he just needed to get over this, and maybe he could forget about it tomorrow.
“I’m Luca. May I know your name?” Luca wanted to know his name for research purposes. A person who could illicit such a reaction would surely be someone important.
And Luca didn’t want to be caught off-guard.
At least not in this life.
