Chapter 395: Walls
It was the familiar thumping, and Luca’s heart still clenched, but instead of fearing death, he just remained nestled in Xavier’s arms, heart humming a slightly different tune.

He still didn’t understand everything, but now he didn’t feel like he was about to grasp at straws blindly. And that was more than enough.

He shifted slightly, his nose brushing against the soft fabric of Xavier’s shirt, which made the resting prince curious about why his little chipmunk was burrowing.

“Hm? Is everything okay?”

Luca nodded and only hesitated a bit before mumbling, “You’re really nice…”

Xavier chuckled. “Don’t go spreading rumors like that. People might get the wrong idea.”

“Huh?”

“But you are!” Luca insisted, voice muffled.

The prince’s hand continued its steady trace along Luca’s back. “Thank you, but you should know, I’m not a saint, Luca.”

That made the little chipmunk pause. “What do you mean?”

Xavier tilted his head and gave a look that was both amused and devilishly sincere. “It means I’m far from it. In fact, I’d like to formally apologize in advance.”

“Apologize? For what?”

“For asking permission to pursue you,” Xavier said easily. “While I don’t want to rush or pressure you. It wouldn’t do me any good to sit around just hoping for miracles, right?”

“If we want something, we have to work for it.”

Luca’s mind froze at the word. “P-Pursue?”

“Mhmm.” The prince’s smile deepened. “You’ve probably seen it in some of the books you’ve been reading lately?”

“??!”

The moment froze—then promptly shattered as Luca jerked upright.

“W-What books?! I—I didn’t—I mean—those were recommended reading!”

Xavier raised a brow. “So you have been reading them.”

“Did you—Did you read them too?!” asked the mortified guide, who could not believe this development.

“Of course.” His tone was nonchalant, far too calm. “I had to know what was influencing you. But now I have to ask… how did this all even start?”

After all, Luca was like a blank slate who rarely thought about things like this unless he had seen or experienced something that could spark such a movement.

Luca scrambled for the blanket and tugged it around himself like a shield. “It was because the elders said something about cultivating as someone bonded. And I was confused, so I asked my brother.”

“Oh?”

Luca just nodded and continued as Xavier urged him on with a look. “Then, Ollie said that this was such a big step and would require knowing about my feelings.”

“But because he also wasn’t familiar, he said there were books that could help!”

Xavier leaned in, eyes gleaming with curiosity now. “Ahh, and those books? Did they help?”

“…The first ones were…a little concerning,” Luca admitted, ears burning red.

“Why?” Xavier’s tone was light, but his interest was genuine now. “What kind of books concerned you?”

Luca hesitated. But the man before him had a relentless gaze, and so he fessed up and showed the “concerning” piece.

It took a moment, and silence reigned as Luca fiddled with his fingers while Xavier read a bit.

Then the mountain giant raised a brow, “A wall slam?’

“Yes!” Luca covered his face. “They kept pinning each other to walls and saying things really close to their face, and it looked intense! That’s an attack, right?! So, how, how could that be love?”

“?”

“…But weren’t you reading fanfictions that were…worse than this?”

“That’s different!” Luca squeaked. “Y-you wouldn’t hit anyone!”

“I see.” Xavier’s lips twitched.

The wolf’s lips curved slightly at the panic brewing across Luca’s flustered face. But he didn’t laugh. Instead, he reached out again and gently coaxed the chipmunk back into the comfort of his lap, letting his voice drop to something low and warm.

“Well, let’s try it this way then,” he murmured.

Luca froze as he felt the shift in Xavier’s tone.

“I’m not trying to tease you,” Xavier said. “But sometimes a scene can be scary, comforting, intense, or intimate because we bring our own memories and meanings to it.”

He knew that Luca may not have the best memories when it came to people getting so close to him, but he was hoping to replace them with better ones.

“If you want,” Xavier asked softly, “would you like a demonstration? I can explain why that scenario pops up a lot in the books you’re reading.”

Luca blinked. “A-A demonstration?”

It took a beat, but eventually Luca agreed, preparing himself for what was to come, only to be surprised by what was happening.

Xavier shifted from his cross-legged seat on the bed, pivoted gracefully, and leaned back—just enough for his back to rest against the wall adjacent to the headboard. It was a smooth, easy movement, made natural by years of combat training and, quite frankly, a lot of indulgence.

He didn’t let Luca scramble away either. Instead, he simply held him steady, letting the little chipmunk’s legs remain draped across his lap as he leaned them both backward until—

Thunk.

Xavier’s broad shoulders touched the wall right as Luca, in his surprise, propped a hand against the wall, afraid they’d slam against it.

Luca’s breath caught, only now realizing what had happened.

Because now, Xavier was right there. Inches away. A blink away. The prince’s face was tilted up toward his, and from this angle, Luca had to look down slightly to meet those azure eyes—eyes that bore into him.

And they were like magnets because it became impossible to leave. Especially not when his brain had emptied itself out like a kicked-over bucket. All that was left were impressions:

Xavier’s lashes were really long.

His lips were symmetrical. Perfectly. That’s probably illegal.

But most importantly, all of it was so close.

And just a bit closer, he’d see more, right?

Closer. The word echoed through Luca’s head before Xavier even spoke it aloud.

So when Xavier murmured, “Closer,” Luca instinctively followed, leaning in just a little as he swallowed.

“Closer.”

Luca tilted forward again, not realizing that his hands were forming a cage around the white wolf, like he was trapping him.

And Xavier? Xavier didn’t move an inch.

Their noses brushed. Their breath mingled as if their lips were a metaphorical hair apart. Luca’s golden eyes, dazed and flickering, zeroed in on those lips.

Then Xavier whispered, voice like velvet:

“You can kiss me.”

Luca didn’t even think; he just did.

At first, it was light—shy and tentative, the softest brush of lips that barely lingered.

But before Luca could even second-guess it, he leaned in again—

And that was all Xavier needed.

In one fluid motion, Xavier’s arm wrapped around his waist and pulled him in—firm, seamless, and devastating. Their mouths met again, but this time, it wasn’t soft.

It was hungry, like he had been holding back for too long, and the pressure of his lips and the sudden need made Luca gasp.

The prince caught it, swallowing the sound in an instant has his fingers slipped into Luca’s hair, fingers threading through those dark strands to tilt his head.

The kiss deepened—fast, demanding. Heat surged between them like flame meeting dry tinder.

Luca barely processed it. His thoughts scattered the moment Xavier’s tongue brushed against his, coaxing, then claiming, stealing the breath straight from his lungs.

He was burning.

It was like being set alight from the inside out. His body moved before he could think, chest pressed against Xavier’s, a hand fisting into the front of his shirt for something—anything—to hold onto.

The kiss was breathless now, and by the time Xavier finally let him go, with a sliver of space between them, lips still brushing, Luca was flushed down to his chest, eyes wide, lips red, lungs greedy for air.

His fingers trembled as he gripped Xavier’s collar, breath stuttering.

“I—I was…kissing you,” he whispered, stunned.

Xavier’s voice was low, wicked with satisfaction. “Mnn. You were.”

“Luca,” he whispered, brushing his thumb along Luca’s jaw, “that’s one kind of wall slam.”

“If you’ll let me, I’ll show you the other ones.”

He didn’t know why he agreed, only that the word left him like an instinct:

“…Okay.”

And just like that, Xavier switched their positions in one smooth movement. He guided Luca until the smaller boy’s back met the wall, his hand bracing beside his head, the other warm and grounding at his waist.

And then he kissed him again.

Luca didn’t stand a chance.

It was fiercer this time—hot and consuming. His breath hitched as Xavier deepened the kiss with all the focus of a man bent on pleasing. His lips moved to satisfy, coaxing every sound, every sigh, every shiver out of him.

Luca clung to him, dizzy and drunk off the contact, his knees jelly, his chest fluttering like it was filled with wings.

By the time he was caged on the bed, breathless, lips parted as he tried to gather as much air, his thoughts rebooted one at a time.

“…Those books…they’re faulty,” he gasped, horrified.

Xavier grinned, utterly unapologetic. “Would you like to lodge a formal complaint?”

No…Yes? Maybe? But if anything, he’ll have to tell his brother!
