Chapter 42: Confrontation?
Awkward…
Awkward…
Super awkward!!!
Luca thought that to himself while D-29 tried convincing him to hang in there.
But then there it was again, the strong compulsion.
It was an odd sensation like he was being compelled to look for something, which caused him to zone out.
Not the chirping of birds, the sound of school announcements, or the strong heartbeat from the chest in front of him could distract him from the instinctive desire to feel something out.
So he did.
Luca looked for whatever that was using his sea of consciousness.
Meanwhile, Xavier was baffled by how unlucky he’d gotten to keep encountering this guy.
Not to mention how it’s always under the strangest circumstances.
He was about to swat him away but noticed the change in his demeanor.
Xavier prepared for an attack that never came.
For a moment, he thought this guy was some sort of suicide bomber who kept getting close to him just to detonate both of them. But then he felt a powerful spiritual energy suddenly emanating from the little twerp.
For the people of the interstellar, this was a call for a fight, a direct challenge because their spiritual energies could rarely coexist in the same space.
Not that it’s impossible, because it does happen when people are able to open their sea of consciousness to others.
But that’s only for those with deep connections. No fool would do it when it could mean death upon betrayal. Therefore, for everyone else, this was a provocation.
Their energies were dominant in nature and would seek to dominate another person’s energy. Therefore, people were generally mindful of using their abilities in public to avoid unintended confrontations.
Then, was this chipmunk trying to challenge him in public? Had he gone out of his mind?
Xavier knew he couldn’t use his spiritual powers like normal, but he wasn’t about to stand there and get attacked, so he released his own to counter Luca’s energy.
Beside them, Kyle, who valued his life, jumped out while gripping Jax by the neck.
Even if it wasn’t at full capacity, he didn’t want to become a punching bag for their Captain’s unruly energy.
His spiritual abilities had always been fierce, but due to corruption, it had become much wilder than usual and were often followed by destruction.
Thankfully, the people who stopped to watch had more common sense than expected and moved farther away.
Kyle didn’t know what to do; he should have intervened, but he would have been shredded like paper if he had even tried.
“Wow. Do you see that, Kyle?”
“See what?” Kyle was so preoccupied that it took him a while to understand what Jax was talking about.
“That. Look at that.” Kyle followed Jax’s line of sight and saw a terrifying display of power.
Fuck.

This wasn’t just ‘shoo away.’
This screamed, ‘Evacuate!’
While Kyle thought the worst, Xavier was baffled by his now-stupid energy.
He sure had corruption in him, but he had never heard of energies becoming stupid and insubordinate after being contaminated.
To the others who were incapable of using visual resonance, all they could feel was the sudden fluctuation of energy around them. However, people like Kyle, Jax, Luca, and Xavier could see several tendrils that looked ready to attack each other.
Except they didn’t.
But only Xavier knew that.
His men still thought he was in a tug-of-war with such powerful energy that Kyle was scared out of his wits while Jax wanted to cheer on their captain like the battle maniac (simpleton) that he was.
To Xavier’s horror, his spiritual tendrils appeared gleeful to connect with this person’s energy.
It wasn’t attacking it, nor was it attempting to dominate anything.
His unreliable and currently frustrating powers were practically petting this guy.
Xavier’s eye twitched as he tried to retract his powers, but his command was ignored.
So, he attempted to extricate himself from the shorty, who now had his arms wrapped around his waist.
What was truly baffling was how he knew how uncomfortable this must look to anyone with normal vision, yet his body couldn’t even push the person away. It was as if his brain was the only part of him wanting to leave, while every other part seemed perfectly content staying like this.
This was clearly a new kind of threat!
Xavier had never been put in such a position. He avoided close contact with people. His energy despised it, and his constant vigilance against threats made him wary of anyone getting near him.
But what was this now? How many times had he been in the same scenario with the same person?
What was even stranger was that he wasn’t being attacked or anything. This guy would just stay in one position like this and do nothing else.
What was he supposed to do with his hands then?
It would’ve been much easier if the chipmunk had swung at him, but nothing of the sort happened, and his body wasn’t even irritated by any of this.
An absolute traitor.
However, Xavier wasn’t the only one feeling that way. Luca wasn’t even sure what he was doing, but D-29 kept telling him to keep at it because whatever he was doing was working wonders for their progress bar.
Wonders for the bar, but dark history for him. Still, that was a realization for later because, right now, Luca was too immersed in tangling with Xavier’s energy to think about anything but that black mass that felt off.
Luca honed in on it like a homing missile. By now, he was examining Xavier’s energy pathways only to find a huge mass of it.
Luca approached it slowly, sensing the sudden apprehension in Xavier’s energy as if warning him to stay away from something that clearly looked dangerous.
But he felt the need to purge whatever it was.
Both were relentless. Luca tried purifying the murky energy without understanding the principle behind it. But the moment his energy touched the black mass, his instincts took over, and he was determined to get rid of it.
The situation was unique, and all the onlookers couldn’t fully understand what was happening. However, the tension was palpable because the two people involved were quite high-profile.
There was the legitimate top student and the questionable heir. Both were now engaged in a battle of spiritual abilities that no one could see.
But why did some female students feel differently?
To them, it didn’t look like a fight at all. Yet, no one dared to voice their feelings because they wouldn’t be able to protect themselves against these two individuals.
Meanwhile, some people began taking photos and videos to better recount the story later.
It wasn’t every day they got to witness something like this.
While those around them imagined different scenarios, Xavier finally realized something was happening to his body.
He became aware of the danger only when he recognized Luca’s presence as foreign—when it tangled with the corruption he had been carefully keeping at bay.
Xavier was now planning to use force. This was dangerous not only for him but also for the little twerp.
But before he could act, he felt Luca’s grip on his waist loosen.
At that moment, D-29 displayed an unexpected prompt to Luca.
[POINTS THRESHOLD REACHED]
[LEVEL-UP CONDITIONS MET]
[CONGRATULATIONS!]
He might have celebrated, but that part would have to wait.
Because Luca fainted after successfully Guiding for the first time.
