Chapter 43: Squeaky Clean
The tendrils around them suddenly dissipated as Luca’s hold on Xavier slackened.
Instead of the initial plan to push him away, Xavier had to catch the chipmunk that was about to faceplant on the floor.
Now what?!
“Hey, Hey!” Xavier checked on the shorty that he just caught.
He’s breathing, but why did he suddenly pass out?
Was this because of the corruption?
Did he get contaminated?
Xavier didn’t have the time to speculate. Instead, he ordered Kyle and Jax to fetch Doctor Irina.
“I’m bringing him over to the infirmary. Tell her to meet us there.”
Xavier held Luca like a sack of potatoes as he rushed towards the infirmary. Frankly, he may be lighter than that.
How did someone survive the exam with a physique like this?
Kyle did as Xavier ordered, getting Doctor Irina to serve as their physician. She was privy to their captain’s medical history and could be trusted to maintain confidentiality.
He was worried about the new guy. As someone who was usually at the receiving end of their Captain’s abilities, Kyle knew better than just to stand there.
They couldn’t precisely vaporize the only son of Duke Leander, could they?
But what was their Captain thinking when he knocked the puny guy unconscious? Was he that pissed about what happened?
Meanwhile, Xavier, who now appeared as the giant bully, was still worried about contaminating the chipmunk.
That’s like looking for an unnecessary fight. He might as well say goodbye to everything he’s worked for by going head to head with the Duke, who was known to spoil his wayward son.
“What happened to him?” Asked Doctor Irina, who pulled up Luca’s records after scanning his badge, only to see that he might be allergic to the medical pod fluid.
“We’ll have to scan manually. He might not be suited for the medical pod.” She said before Xavier could even answer.
“What? He suddenly fainted after unleashing his spiritual powers on me.”
All three people looked at him with judgemental eyes, and Xavier felt like smacking all of them.
“For the record, I did not attack him. There wasn’t even a fight.”
Instead of saying anything, the three eggheads, including this shifty doctor, gave him a knowing look as if he was lying.
Xavier decided not to bother with this council of idiots and decided to focus on Luca.
“So you’re telling me he just fainted randomly?”
“Captain, it seems like hugging you can be a life-threatening experience.” Jax chimed in, earning him a side-eye and an actual death threat.
“It was after he came into contact with the corrupted energy inside my body.”
“!!!”
“Wait, what?! You should’ve opened with that!” Irina hurried to get the contamination detector while hoping for the best for this young man and the Empire.

They all knew that a probable civil war was hinged on the results that they would get.
However, while the people were concerned about civil wars and contaminations, the wayward son was on the verge of a spiritual sea upgrade. And it would take some time before he’d be able to wake up from it, effectively scaring the waiting party.
“Do you have the results of the scan?” Asked Xavier, who was looming over the machine like a boss who could intimidate the employees into working faster.
“I do, but I’d like to re-take the test a few times.” She had an odd look on her face. Obviously, she should be very grateful that she’s got a clean bill, but the problem was also that.
It was too clean.
She’s seen so many reports that she could easily tell that this kid was too clean.
Normal people would at least have a few impurities, especially upon contact with anything polluted. There would be signs. But this student’s result made it look like he’s never inhaled polluted air.
Was the machine defective?
Noticing her expression and deep contemplation, Xavier had to ask what was wrong. She wouldn’t look this constipated if nothing was off.
“He’s fine. Technically, he’s too fine.” Irina sounded unsure.
And then incredibly crazy when she added, “With all due respect, Sir, we’re all too dirty to be near this boy.”
“I don’t know about all of you, but I sure as hell showered before I got here!” Jax made sure to exclude himself from the allegedly dirty people, but all he got were scowls. Suit yourselves!
“Explain yourself.”
“Before I do that, I think we should also scan you, Sir. I want to confirm something.”
The test didn’t take too long, but they made sure to do it at least three times using different machines. The younger guys found it odd but said nothing, allowing the quirky doctor to do her work.
Then, she projected the results for all of them to see.
She displayed three similar results, with the variance staying within the acceptable range.
Then, it wasn’t the machines. She already used three different devices and unless the Academy was that incompetent, they wouldn’t have three defective devices.
“Look at this, Sir.”
“!”
The results clearly showed a person contaminated with corrupted energy. But what was shocking was the difference between his last scan before returning to the Nova Base and the three scans they just took.
“Sir, what exactly did you do for it to decrease by that much?”
“Doc, is that because of the fruit?” Kyle had an expectant look. If this was really because of the fruit, then this would be revolutionary.
But his hopes were immediately dampened when the doctor confirmed that everyone’s results showed a boost in replenishing their spiritual energy. This could help prevent corruption from taking over the body, but it didn’t actively decrease the current corrupted energy.
“So, if possible, please think of what you have done since you arrived.”
Xavier heard her, but his expression darkened after remembering his recent experiences. He had been trying to shove it back into the recesses of his mind only to have to dig it up for any leads.
He hasn’t really done anything differently, nor has he taken anything but his regular meals. The only irregularity was the chipmunk, who was currently bedridden.
But if you ask him, it may have been a coincidence.
What kind of entity would this guy be if he was directly related to his improvement?
Not to mention that all he’s been doing was groping him here and there. However, that last bit, when he discovered the interaction between the corrupted energy in his body and this guy’s energy, couldn’t be ignored.
But with how dangerous that was, he didn’t plan on experimenting just to lay his suspicions to rest.
He really wasn’t sure and didn’t want to give anyone any sort of false hope.
“I’ll think about it, but just to be safe, I’ll get tested every now and then to see if there would be more changes.”
The three looked crestfallen at Xavier’s answer, but they could do nothing unless he remembered something specific.
But Xavier really had a hunch, and he just wasn’t willing to announce what happened to this bunch of crazy people.
It’s just that his plan consisted of watching this chipmunk more and not stopping him from clinging to him like an octopus.
Tsk.
