Chapter 58: Shopping!
Unlike everyone who wondered about several mysterious events, Luca and one slightly taller idiot managed to arrive back at school safely.
Luca had to stop himself from humming because he was too excited to check out his haul.
Next to him was a withered Ollie who had been so anxious all the way back that he feared going bald early.
For some reason, even with the immense advancement of technology, male pattern baldness was still the fear of many males. And while he could surgically fix it, Ollie was too scared of pain to do just that.
So, Ollie tossed and turned all night, fearing for Luca, himself, and his poor hair.
A stark contrast to the blonde, Luca and D-29 excitedly began combing through their haul. They had spent 7,000CP on the corruption detector, which was now safely stored in his inventory.
Now, they decided to test how the Dungeon counted the spoils. Because they had been rushing earlier, they threw whatever they could into the recycler to hit the required CP for the detector.
“Hmm… It seems it’s pricing the same 100CP for every batch it accepts.”
Luca kept trying different combinations, and it seemed that the basis was how contaminated the item was. Even if an item were small, if it were almost entirely contaminated, then it would require fewer items to be accepted.
On the other hand, no matter how large an item was, if it was barely corrupted, then he’d need to mix in more items.
Luca had no idea whether the number was good, but he managed to get 60,000CP or 67,000CP for the inventory and the three corrupted beasts’ remains if he counted the 7,000CP they used to buy the handheld machine.
If anything surprised him, it was that the goo earned far more than the items he bought. At 24,000CP for something that people ‘gave’ him for free, he figured he could just open a suction company!
It was just too good to pass up!
Just when Luca thought that was everything, he was surprised to see another item on the projection.
[Corrupted Core (Grade C) x 3]
It didn’t seem odd at first, but the moment he tried recycling it, he was surprised to see the returning CP! He wasn’t even sure if those could be recycled as it was because they were so tiny and may not even be recognized by the recycler. But unexpectedly, that wasn’t the case!
[Acquired: 3,000CP]
“!!!”
There was such a good thing?!
“Wow! Host, we managed to get a total of 94,000CP from today’s incident!”
Luca looked at the balance of 94,100CP and felt like everything was not for nothing. His hard work and sudden debt would allow him to improve his body more, which excited him like nothing else.
Instead of waiting, he opted to buy the maximum number of Basic manuals he could use.
[Acquired: Basic Manual of Constitution x2]
[Acquired: Basic Manual of Strength x2]
[Acquired: Basic Manual of Dexterity x2]
The improvement he felt when he first used it was too significant to ignore, and Luca thought that it wouldn’t have been possible for him to deal with the beasts earlier if not for the manuals he used some ways earlier.
He survived because of these.
So he decided he’d use one of each first before using the last manuals of the same kind.
The Trove’s description says that each kind of basic manual could be used thrice, so he could improve by one more level after this.

D-29 asked him how he felt after using the manuals for a second time, and Luca’s huge grin suggested that he probably felt refreshed.
He tried stretching, jumping, and moving his body to see how comfortable he felt with it.
“This is great! I don’t even feel sluggish anymore! Is this how normal people feel with their bodies?”
“Host! How about you buy one of those Combat Training Module Plug-ins? I remember you said something about learning how to fight properly.”
“There’s such a thing?”
D-29 moved the projection to show Luca several choices. There were several items he could choose from, but the prices were rather steep. The cheapest one was 10,000CP plus the cost of the Training Hall, which was 30,000CP alone.
He hesitated for a bit before remembering how bad his fighting abilities were earlier.
“How do we use this?”
“We should be getting a training hall that would allow you to use different modules for training, Host.”
Luca mulled over it but decided to just close his eyes and buy. After this, he would be left with just 17,100CP, but this was an urgent thing that he needed, and he needed it fast.
He comforted himself by thinking that if he was stronger, then he could get more CP, and more CP equals higher chances of survival.
The good guy repeated that even as a new wing opened close to them. One of the crevices had a new device with a screen, and Luca went over it to inspect his new splurge.
When he touched the device, it opened a prompt that immediately recognized the presence of Basic Training Module I. And Luca clicked on yes when it asked him if he wanted to train with it.
The machine wasn’t even big; it actually looked like a totem pole with a screen attached, and Luca wondered how he would train with such a thing. And then he was suddenly transported to a grassland clearing.
He shook his head, wondering why he was suddenly faced with such a serene landscape, which even had the matching scent of wildflowers.
Luca thought the module was defective because how was he supposed to train with this?
That’s when he spotted him: an ancient grand master with a beard so long it could’ve doubled as a scarf. The master stood still, radiating an aura of calm that matched the location.
“Maybe that’s who you will learn from, Host?”
“Hell—” Luca was about to say hello when a lighting-fast roundhouse kick connected with his chest, even before he could get a word in.
The next thing he knew, he was airborne. He briefly marveled at his experience of flight before colliding with a tree so hard that it dropped leaves.
*Thud!*
“Ow!” Luca groaned, peeling himself off the tree trunk after seeing the old man lunge in his direction.
He tried; he really did.
But he still got hit by the old man who shouldn’t even be able to move at that age!
[Trainee heavily damaged: Exiting training mode]
Before Luca left the pocket training space, he seemed to have heard the old man mumbling about students clearly letting go of themselves.
When he landed back facing the modern totem pole, he was clutching his chest to see whether he needed to go to the hospital because it felt like that or a second round at transmigration.
Luca sat there, blinking in stunned silence. And without any further ado, he opened his inventory to use the last three manuals immediately.
Yep.
He was going to die like this. So, why wait?
He was suddenly clear about his definite weakness and resolved to do everything in his power to improve.
Or he wouldn’t survive for long.
While Luca was trying to cheer himself up, the results of the training that were displayed went unnoticed:
[Training Difficulty: Hard Mode]
[Trainor: Grandmaster Tao]
[Exit Status: Alive]
[Progress: 2%]
