Chapter 66: Contract
For the record, Luca fainted not because he was weak or sick. Luca fainted because the stench coming from the bones was just too strong!
That was definitely not his fault!
They smelled!
They all smelled so bad!
When he came to, Luca decided not to breathe until he could scramble far enough from them.
He was admittedly scared, but he realized that he was probably not going to die from a curse or a bite but from the stench.
So, he decided to don his mask before dealing with the spirits.
“With all due respect, Sirs. Would a good washing be detrimental to your bones?” Luca really had no idea how to ask the dead to take a bath, but he was going to have to try before he followed suit.
He wasn’t planning on dying just because he wanted to save some CP.
“See, I told you! It’s because you stink!”
“Oi! You say that as if you didn’t just stink him to near death!”
“Shh! Just wash, and maybe use a lot of soap. Maybe it could wash your souls clean, too!”
Luca wasn’t sure of what he was seeing. Ever since he had transmigrated into this world, he had seen the most bizarre things, but he was sure this was one of his weirdest experiences.
Before him were three skeletons who were hell-bent on arguing about who was worse.
Meanwhile, Luca was trying his best to buy a power washer from the Trove because he was sure that nothing less than a deep clean would allow him to survive in his own space.
Thankfully, modern technology saved him and the dead from an even worse state.
Now that they had been power-washed with the lake’s spiritual water, Luca could only sigh at the shiny bones.
He was so tired that he was sure he’d have to train some other day. And that was only after he survived the next ordeal.
His thoughts were interrupted by one of the elders.
“Young man, now that you’re able to tolerate us, would it be possible for you to hand over an Energy Crystal?” It was the tall one who cleared his non-existent throat before speaking, which, by the way, still looked very creepy.
Luca wasn’t sure about this. Obviously, the crystal was a source of power, and he wasn’t sure he’d want to hand such a thing to skeletons when he wasn’t sure if they were planning something terrible.
“Host, I think it should be fine. They should be bound by a contract with you or the Dungeon.”
“Sir, if I were to give you an energy crystal, what would you do with it? ” he asked hesitantly.
The three bones looked at each other, and although their expressions were barely visible because they had only skulls for heads, it was apparent that they were pitying Luca.
But for what?
Well, for one, they wondered how this kid would survive in the outside world when he asked others such a question while expecting an honest answer.
Had they been evil spirits, they would obviously not answer this boy’s question honestly.
But who were they to judge when they were way past their prime?
“It is to get a corporeal body so we could fulfill the contract.”

“You summoned us, right?”
Luca was taken aback by the fact that they knew about the contract.
“Are you farmers, by any chance, Sirs?” Luca asked, still pressing his back against the wall for a false sense of protection.
“Farmers?”
“Ha! Child! We’re not just farmers. We practically invented farming! You see, before you—”
“Shut your mouth! He’d age too much before you even finish your re-telling. Save that for when he’s dead. Maybe you can get a chance to tell your story!”
“You never let me finish! It’s because you’re still jealous you lost!”
“It is because of you that no one even wants to talk to as deities! Who wants to hear how you grew each grain of rice at Mt. Khun.”
“Young man, I apologize. You can just ignore them. If you give me an Energy Crystal, I promise to work and give you the best harvest.”
Elder Shen decided to let those two idiots rot. If they keep that up, no one would be able to get an Energy Crystal! And if they really wanted a form that would allow them to farm, then he better not associate with Idiot 1 and Moron 2.
Luca wasn’t sure, so he wanted to ask D-29 about the specifics of this contract.
“D-29, Host, it seems like they are to work as your farmers in exchange for a fixed amount of Energy Crystals.”
“If they do something we don’t like, can we return them to the scrolls? Or maybe we can refund them now?”
“Apologies, Host. As much as refunding would be a good idea, the Trove does not allow returns and exchanges. But we can store them inside the scrolls when needed.”
Luca felt like what was supposed to be a bargain had turned into a nightmare, but at least he could still lock them in, just in case.
“I’m still unsure of your motives, but I think we can do a trial run. I can give you an Energy Core if you’re okay with it.”
There was a slight pause before three skeletons lunged at him.
Luca thought they would disagree, but he was surprised to find them cooperating.
Were the energy crystals vital to them?
“The farmlands are above ground, and we have to pass by here to get there.” Luca described the workplace as he went to the elevator, but he wondered why it was suddenly too silent.
Then Luca turned back, only to see the three skeletons flickering in and out with what looked like a ghost appearance!
Poor Luca nearly fell to the ground as the three Elders suddenly had a somewhat translucent body.
“Host, it seems like the Energy Crystals would allow them to get their bodies back. Maybe that’s how they would be able to work?”
“Ohohohoho!” Laughed Elder Feng as he marveled at the body he hadn’t seen in forever.
“You look better as bones, old man. Now you just look wrinkly.”
Luca rubbed the back of his neck, wondering if these people could really farm, as they had said.
Would his crops actually survive?
