Chapter 75: Count Down
To Greg’s frustration, the two didn’t immediately head for the cave.
Xavier assumed that such a place could be the final area and that there would only be enough students to kill once the test was at its last leg.
So, they breezed through the enemies they were lucky enough to spot. Luca was practically playing Pin the Donkey as he tried spotting and killing based on his intuition. It was the skill of a well-ambushed person, and it was proving useful right now.
But what he didn’t know and couldn’t see were the dried-up tears of these defeated people. They were easy to find, not just because these two were skilled but because several alliances had been meaning to take them down.
They were serving themselves to these monsters who were just too happy to oblige.
On the other hand, the people watching the Livestream were either too silent or too ecstatic. Fans and supporters of the other nobles couldn’t believe how the two had taken down another set of 15 people in the last 6 hours.
But there was a group who could actually understand the situation. Marshal Julian Theron watched intently, looking for the telltale signs of Spiritual Power Imbalance.
If not for that incident, there would be no need to wait to identify the winner, but with the damage to Xavier’s core, they couldn’t be too sure.
While the spiritual fruits they obtained helped curtail the contamination, they didn’t fully solve the issue. But how could Xavier, who was in the same condition as him, maintain his state for this long?
The Marshal was right because, ideally, he shouldn’t be able to use his abilities to this extent. But that didn’t take into account the spiritual water from earlier or Luca’s constant guiding.
The viewers could see the other examinees preparing to mount an ambush against 004 and 028. They were hiding far away, using the mist as their cover while waiting for the rest of their accomplices.
“Prepare for battle. We’ll move the moment they get here.” 006 actually felt conflicted about this. While he was aware of Xavier’s prowess, he just couldn’t understand why they’d need this many people to deal with 028 and 004.
“Sure, we’ll give you ten seconds.” It was emotionless. It wasn’t a question nor a plea but a statement.
“Ten”
“Nine”
006 bolted to the side when something shiny caught his eye. He and his partner 022 rolled over to dodge, crouching low before realizing that nothing whizzed through.
A faint!
“Six.” It was that voice again, and the count got them breathing hard. Why did it seem like they were the ones being hunted?
But because they were so fixated on the count, most students missed the movement of a missing person.
Luca appeared above them, suddenly leaping into existence. After distracting them with the weapons he had taken from the eliminated students, he instantly gathered three of the hunkering examinees.
“Keep your distance from him!”
This command from 006 roused the other students and prepared them to aim at Luca, only for a few shots to fire before any of them pulled the trigger.
*BANG!*
*BANG!*
*BANG!*
*BANG!*
*BANG!*
“One”
The beeping sounds came one after the other, signaling the death of five more examinees.

006 trembled but tried returning fire as he followed around the darting figures. What was worse was how 022 couldn’t even hit the stationary form, as if he was hitting a mirage or the bullets were just disappearing before hitting anything.
It was clear that they were fighting in the same arena, with the same settings, but with several more allies. But how come these monsters were dodging the attacks while aiming so accurately?
Then, there was a sudden silence before a beep sounded.
“022 killed, 028 gained one point.”
006 Would be an idiot if he stayed, so he decided to flee, only to face a bright-faced guy.
“Are the rest coming soon?” Luca asked, his eyes smiling as he tried to ask politely.
But the startled examinee managed to recover, dropping his gun in favor of a solid punch.
Luca sidestepped with precision, deflecting the blow with his forearm as he did against the Grandmaster. The impact sent a small jolt through his arm, but he didn’t flinch. Instead, he countered with a sharp elbow strike aimed at his enemy’s ribs.
006 twisted his body just in time, narrowly avoiding Luca’s hit while retaliating with a sweeping kick aimed at the enemy’s legs.
Luca lept back.
With his dynamic vision enhanced by his spiritual abilities, Luca could actually see it as though it were slower. But frankly, it was because he was now faster.
A right hook was coming for him, and with his height, it was slated for his head, but Luca could see that clearly and ducked low before surging forward, using his shoulders to ram against the opponent’s midsection.
The force knocked 006 off balance, and he stumbled back a few steps, leaving an opening for Luca to charge again, this time aiming his brass knuckles directly at the sensor.
“006 killed, 004 gained one point.”
The beep didn’t sound real to 006.
He had been eliminated, yet it felt like it hadn’t been too long since they started. And then he remembered what Xavier first said.
“You said ten seconds. How come you didn’t follow that?”
He wasn’t the only one with such a question; the viewers also thought the same, but Xavier didn’t have to answer since Luca did so instead.
“Huh? But the beasts don’t know how to count? How could they wait?” Luca tilted his head to the side, wondering if he was wrong.
Luca learned this the hard way: even if he pleaded against bullies, no one would wait for him to get his bearings. Even the Grandmaster never waited, so why would they?
Xavier couldn’t help it—a smirk formed in his mouth after hearing his response.
“That’s right, the battlefield waits for no one.” Then he walked before ruffling Luca’s hair.
The chipmunk trotted behind Xavier, seemingly pleased with himself.
But Luca wasn’t the only one enjoying the moment.
With 45 points, they were currently in the lead, and Ollie had already formed a small online cheering squad for his good brother.
It was too late to stay by the bleachers, but Ollie wasn’t sleeping and was instead spreading his brother’s name to anyone willing to listen, and frankly, even those who weren’t.
And his job wasn’t difficult because when most people saw the footage of him, they didn’t get to focus much on the combat.
Luca’s hair was a little messy, and his face a bit flushed, but even as he panted, he had a smile that matched the enjoyment in his eyes.
It was simply beautiful.
And when you top that with his personal as well as team score, it would be impossible not to be captivated.
Luca felt thrilled to be able to defend himself like this. He felt empowered by not being on the receiving end of every blow. And that satisfaction showed in his face and actions.
Several people who watched and saw that scene for the first time quietly captured a screenshot for later appreciation.
