Chapter 79: New Strategy
Xavier reached out, wanting to be enveloped by this warmth and hoping to thaw out his entire being.
His sea of consciousness was especially greedy, but his body was coming in as a close second.
His hands unconsciously searched for his reprieve when he felt the warmth disappear. Xavier was unsure of what it was but felt like he would die without it.
Meanwhile, Luca had to breathe, as maintaining his position in front of Xavier wasn’t exactly comfortable.
He also stopped as D-29 expressed doubts that Luca’s actions did not match the photos in the book, which were mainly covered in decorative hearts.
D-29 followed Luca’s instructions to a tee.
The little system bought the simplest one, which just so happened to be a children’s book. While the book discussed kissing and physical contact, the photos were all covered with decorative hearts.
But it was definitely the simplest and easiest to digest.
“Host, in the interstellar dramas, they don’t kiss like that. They normally do CPR.” D-29 remembered all the drama it had seen while waiting on its Host and was confident about this observation.
“CPR? Was he dying already?” Luca immediately checked Xavier’s breathing and sighed after realizing he was still alive.
“Yes, Host. None of the photos here match what you did, but after comparison, it seems like this is closer to CPR minus the chest compression. Maybe you need to breathe energy into him?”
Now, CPR was something that Luca knew of because it was a mandatory commercial played by all the media channels, especially after the successive dungeon breaks.
Okay, without the compressions, then.
Xavier’s face was pale, and Luca just decided to try. Luca’s hands were trembling, but he managed to tilt Xavier’s head back before pressing his mouth against his.
It was supposed to be clinical, a life-saving effort. But their lips brushing against each other created a draw so undeniable they ended up stuck to each other.
Luca wasn’t sure if CPRs involved electric currents, but his chest rose sharply as he gasped in surprise. In his shock, he decided to pull away, only for the back of his neck to be gripped, and the mouth-to-mouth was deepened.
Xavier’s instincts came alive when Luca made contact. The warmth came in droves, soothing his fried pathways and his raging consciousness. And so he clutched on tightly, wanting more of this warmth and inner peace.
Luca’s face and body were flushed.
Xavier held him in place, allowing for a much deeper connection. He was caught off-guard, thinking that people needed to take in air to give to the other person. But he was unable to detach from Xavier.
Luca was practically gripping Xavier’s hair by now. He felt himself sinking into him, his guiding energy flowing way faster than ever.
This time, Luca didn’t try to think. He was going with his instincts, as it would’ve been impossible even if he tried.
While Luca radiated warmth, Xavier felt like a refreshing coolant, especially now that Luca’s body felt very heated. This feeling was very comfortable and relieving, so he tried to rub up against him again.
Guiding was so much easier. What felt like an endless void suddenly felt doable, and the raging winds that kept dispersing his efforts quieted down. Luca was able to pull on the remaining corruption like this.
It took a while, but it probably felt like seconds for these people. Xavier was instinctively tugging on Luca’s energy now, and the two would’ve been stuck in this cycle of energy rotation if not for the sudden clattering of bones.
*CLANG! CLACK!*
That made them jump. Even Xavier, who had been on autopilot, was jolted awake. It was his training as a soldier, immediately waking once a threat was felt. His head still throbbed, but that was not because of his spiritual powers but because someone committed a crime against the crown.
On the other hand, the criminal who had earlier bonked someone’s head—only to kiss them senseless after—fell to the side in fear.
But really, those were nothing compared to the three elders, who were more surprised that their bones ended up detaching.
Elder Wei had to pick up his skull before walking backward to run away.

They didn’t mean to walk into such a scene. They really tried to cover their eyes, but their bones couldn’t cover anything when there were holes everywhere.
The three elders just wanted to brag about their farming progress and were hoping to ask if they could maybe have a bonus after ensuring the best harvest for their new Lord.
“I told you we shouldn’t have come without being called! Now we’ve disturbed them!”
“If their dual cultivation suffers because of that, you better pick your gravestone as early as now!” Elder Shen threatened Elder Feng, who had to carry his right arm with his left.
“Don’t blame me! We could’ve left without being discovered if Wei’s head just stayed intact. Try being smarter next time so at least your skull won’t want to abandon you, too!”
While the three elders argued all the way back to the farm, two people were left with a somewhat awkward situation.
“…”
“…”
No one wanted to speak because no one knew what they wanted to say or could say at a time like this.
Xavier was actually having a mental breakdown.
Waking up in an unfamiliar place while half-naked and clutching the chipmunk, who was sure as hell locking lips with him just moments ago, was not the type of good morning he was expecting. Especially not while they were supposed to be dying from an ancient spider.
He wanted to ask about many things, but all the other thoughts flew away after giving the chipmunk a once-over.
“Did I do something to you?!” Xavier couldn’t imagine himself as the kind of animal that would take advantage of this chipmunk.
He’s got evidence of tears, and his face was very red like he’d been hit. Did he commit some sort of domestic violence while he was out of it? And not to mention those lips that were rightfully swollen.
Even if Xavier tried denying the whole thing, his hand prints were visible on Luca’s fair and soft skin, as if he’d been holding him for far too long that it’s left a mark.
Luca, on the other hand, couldn’t really react. He had no idea how to face Xavier because of what just happened and because of how he’d explain all of this.
But more than anything, Luca couldn’t afford to look at him because Xavier’s head had a rather large bump from when Luca knocked him out.
Luca suddenly feared he would be locked up and didn’t know how to apologize for his actions.
However, Xavier interpreted this as an affirmation that he was the world’s worst scum.
His head throbbed, and when he closed his eyes to sigh, he figured that it had come to this, and as a person of his stature, he should be setting an example for everyone.
He had to apologize and probably grovel.
Then, he definitely had to take responsibility.
“Luca… I’m sorry. I really don’t know what came upon me and what just happened.”
“But none of that is an excuse for what I’ve done. So, I’d definitely take responsibility and am willing to meet with you and the Duke to discuss this.”
Xavier felt better after saying that, and even as his head hurt, at least he hadn’t forgotten to take accountability like a proper human.
