Chapter 84: Settling Accounts
Any more of this and Sid would likely collapse.
He’d never heard of guardian mechas perishing like this, but there was always a first for everything—Like this open attempted murder that was being done in broad daylight with the chirping of the birds as a background.
Sid never thought that his master would end up like this. But his permissions still hadn’t been returned to normal, and all he could do was dread the outcome. The poor mecha even wanted to cover his eyes, but even that was impossible.
He watched as one of the two shorties held out a menacing frying pan above his master’s head.
“Ollie, is it going to be okay after you do that? Wouldn’t that be too much?” Luca asked, wondering if it was okay to resort to this method.
“I just got him to take responsibility for me earlier. What if it’s too much this time?” He couldn’t imagine having to answer for another egg on his head, and their contract did say that they must protect each other.
Luca was free from having to pay for the first egg, but maybe Xavier wouldn’t be as kind to a repeat offender.
But if this would help wake him…
“Say what now?!” Ollie was about to hit with all the might of a couch potato but almost stumbled when Luca said that.
“Huh? What is it?” Luca asked, his innocent eyes blinking at him.
“You got this guy,” Ollie pointed at Xavier, “to take responsibility for you?!” Ollie made sure to enunciate everything, just in case he didn’t hear it clearly.
Luca nodded earnestly before raising his hand to show him. “Yeah, earlier. We even signed a contract.”
Ollie was weak in the knees.
Maybe it was vitamin deficiency or a stroke, but he felt like he was going to give out.
But as the strong man that he was, he wanted to verify with his brother, “Luca, could you rub the ring a few times?”
“Like this?” Luca asked Ollie if he was doing it correctly when he saw the array of different symbols come out.
Yep.
Ollie found himself on the floor, his temporary weapon strewn to the side.
“Luca, were you forced into this?” He had to ask because why else would he ask him to take care of his newly-minted husband?
“Oh, no! I was actually glad he offered. I was really relieved when I didn’t have to pay for anything.”
“Then, when you asked me to take care of him… what did you want me to actually do?”
“I’m sorry, Ollie. I had no one else to turn to, so I had to ask you. I was hoping you have any ideas on what to do for someone who just won’t wake up.” Luca sighed in distress before looking at the passed-out Xavier.
But instead of an expressionless face, he was greeted with those azure eyes.
“!!!”
Luca jolted up, surprised to see that the patient had finally woken up.
Meanwhile, Ollie had an awkward staredown with his new brother-in-law. Granted, he almost widowed his own brother!
“You’re finally awake! You took so long, I had to call for help!” Luca’s brows creased as he pouted at the memory of trying different things to wake him up.
But before Xavier could say anything, the chipmunk suddenly grabbed onto Xavier’s face.
He was checking for complications and trying to feel for Xavier’s energy pathways. Ideally, he would be doing it by checking his chest, but Xavier was still submerged in the tub, and he may have to get wet just to do that.

“Care to tell me why I woke up to a pan in front of my face?”
Xavier’s face was still cradled in Luca’s hands, lightly diminishing the deadliness of his question.
Ollie changed into a kneeling position. It was his mistake. He didn’t ask properly and almost added to his already colorful list of offenses.
“I’m sorry. It was a misunderstanding, brother-in-law!”
Usually, Xavier would return fire and whack this guy for good measure, but he elected not to because he managed to hear their conversation right as he was about to lose more brain cells.
And there were also more pressing problems, he thought as he rubbed his temples.
“What happened with the Ancient Spider? We should go back now that I can fight again.” Xavier said he only needed to nurse what felt like a bump on his head.
“About that… It’s been taken care of. It’s just that you might want to know something important.”
Luca was very nervous.
This was the moment of truth for the little money-grubber.
He may not know much, but he was sure it was illegal to bomb random places. And so D-29 prepared footage of the spider nest and the eggs that were threatening to hatch right then and there.
Ollie wanted to vomit at the sight.
No wonder that place exploded. Even if he was fined, he’d gladly accept it. In fact, even now, he thinks that it would be better to go back there and do a second round of bombings. At this rate, one can never be too sure, right?
“But Luca, how did you deal with it?”
Luca blushed, both in shyness and in fear, because he wasn’t prepared to hear about his new loans.
D-29 told him to use a more believable account that he used the manual mecha’s power cell to create such an explosion.
Xavier looked at the footage and at this chipmunk and wondered how he managed to explode such a stable power cell—Unless he used something insanely unstable.
“About the mecha… It’s school property, right? Do you guys have any idea how much it costs?” Luca really didn’t want to hear. But he probably wouldn’t have a good sleep if he had to think about this all night.
“No need to think about it. I said I’ll pay for it.” Xavier looked over at Luca. For some reason, he’s starting to see a pattern when it comes to his reactions.
Was the duchy experiencing underlying issues that were making him act like every star coin was to die for?
*Gasp!*
Luca gasped after hearing Xavier’s words.
“Are you sure? You mean that?” Luca was very hopeful. He always believed that if it was free, it was for him! And Xavier just said he wouldn’t have to pay for it!
“I promised. So, I’ll take care of it.” The chipmunk still held his face, and any more of this, he’d feel like a ball. But the guy was so happy and kept grinning like a crazy person that he just didn’t bother.
What was the use of interfering when this guy would always end up doing what he wanted?
Instead, he should be focusing on something way more important.
Forget the spider, the trashed mecha, and even his assassination.
What Xavier wanted to know was where the hell they were and what the hell was all this.
He practically resurrected from the dead after ingesting that pill that Luca gave him, and there was no way he could not see or feel the energy around him.
“Luca, where exactly are we?” Xavier finally had the opportunity to ask the wide-eyed chipmunk before the chipmunk suddenly broke into hiccups.
*Hiccup!*
