Chapter 90: Brotherhood
But of course, they weren’t.
Why would two people hide in the bathroom when they were busy trying to come up with ways to help people (make money)?
In fact, Ollie was also back there for such a critical discussion but received a request for a holo call with his father.
Obviously, he couldn’t answer that in Luca’s space and had to go back to his room to receive the call. He figured he would ask about auctioning a few items; therefore, he definitely needed to take the call. So, he reluctantly asked to be sent out.
But even as he left the space, he couldn’t help but admire his kind brother! After Luca recovered from the sudden meltdown, Ollie was handed snacks and the food they couldn’t enjoy.
So, he was thrilled and felt like life really had pleasant surprises! Luckily, he opted to leave home to go to the academy, or he would’ve been stuck there rotting!
But his smile faltered the moment the door opened to two hulking figures.
Ollie wasn’t THAT short. These two were just too tall. But facing their necks reminded him of how fragile he was as someone who only held tools and used mechanized equipment.
Yep.
And these two were looking at him with such unreadable expressions that he couldn’t really react or greet them properly.
*Hiccup!*
Shit.
Now he understood why Luca kept on hiccuping.
In the face of great danger, smaller animals needed to know their place, and Ollie was just hoping it wasn’t a jail cell!
He remembered how Kyle looked at him earlier, especially when he returned from the site with a background that made him look like a terrorist.
But he really shouldn’t be nervous.
He was innocent!
*Hiccup!*
Right?
“Jax, check the bathroom and even the pod,” Kyle ordered as he watched the hiccuping mop before him.
Ollie knew they wouldn’t find anyone, and it would be weird to explain what he was doing here all alone while the owners of the room weren’t inside.
But he was the best friend, scratch that, the brother, so why can’t he wait here? Ollie believed he would be able to use this excuse.
The mop was actually nervous but for a completely different reason: he was worried about the mine explosion but was prepared to tank the financial damages.
Fine!
So, he was really dumbfounded when Kyle asked him to release their Captain.
Eh???
“!!!”
Kyle knew that this guy could possibly be vital to them, but that would be nothing if they couldn’t get their captain back!
“Your Captain? What would I do with your Captain?!” Ollie didn’t imagine this line of questioning, especially not what Kyle was about to follow it up with!
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
“Was it money? Or maybe jealousy?” he added as he considered reasons for this guy to do something malicious to those two people.
“What are you even saying?! Do you even hear yourself?” Ollie shivered in disgust as he was accused of taking his brother’s new hubby!
“Hey! You! Accuse me of robbing a bank, but don’t accuse me of stealing someone else’s husband! Especially not my brother’s!” Ollie hugged himself in distress.
What if Luca heard this guy’s dirty mouth?!
Ollie was facing the threat of his life. It was just a shame that he didn’t prepare a will beforehand and didn’t ask Luca to delete his browsing history after his death!
“Tell us where he is!” Kyle was rather impatient now because their Captain wasn’t in the best condition, and this guy over here clearly knew something but wasn’t saying anything!
It was frustrating!
But Ollie had absolutely no plans to tell them about the space unless Luca decided to do it himself.
His ‘friends’ back home would probably think he was stupid for acting like this. If he had thrown Luca under the bus, all the accusations would have stopped!
But that was something that a fake friend or brother would do.
For Ollie, it wasn’t actually the apples that gave him a very favorable opinion of Luca.
It was when he did as he promised. He promised to return a very small amount that wasn’t even initially a loan.
“But what’s the big deal?” That was everyone’s famous line back home when they borrowed money or made Ollie pay as the resident rich kid.
He was rather popular back then because he would gladly spot for everyone, as in everyone.
And he didn’t mind that one bit.
He was glad to do so because he was capable. But then he heard a few people talking about their plans to ask him for more money, maybe a loan of sorts.
“Just add more when you ask him. He won’t ask for the money back anyway! And even if he does, he won’t really say anything when you tell him you can’t pay!” Ollie heard one of his friends goad another.
Even now, Ollie can hear their snickers in his mind.
It was a conversation that he wasn’t even supposed to overhear. And they really did make do with the promise to ask him for money. Ollie did lend them some and then eventually reminded them to pay it back.
He did it because he wanted to see just how far people would go for money. And when all of them disappointed him, the conscription came, saving him from a life surrounded by leeches of different sizes.
His dad did say before that people who couldn’t even remember small favors would never acknowledge life-saving graces. He just didn’t think it’d be that bad.
But Luca, his new brother, not only remembered to repay the small favor but even gave him something way more than he deserved.
And as a Mylor, he knew how to repay such graces! Ollie was hell-bent on sewing up his mouth if needed! Luca never even asked for money, even when he was desperate, and even shared his ground-breaking secrets with him!
He even received messages from Luca just because! And his brother never included a payment request in any of his messages! To Ollie, Luca was a good person who strived to make it in this harsh world.
So, he was determined and was planning on going toe-to-toe with Kyle!
It was like a chick fighting with a jaguar. That was the imagery in Jax’s mind. He’s got no idea why these two people were arguing like that, but all he knows is that someone walked in without taking their shoes off.
The carpet had shoe depressions that were definitely bigger than the shoes of the blondie.
Hmm.
“They were here, Kyle. Look at these.” Jax pointed towards the carpet, and frankly, Ollie wanted to roll around the carpet to erase the markings, but he figured he wouldn’t be found alive the next day.
“They were really here. But now it’s just you here. Care to explain that?” Kyle was closing in on Ollie because all the evidence really pointed to him. However, he couldn’t figure out how such a guy could take on their Captain.
Was it the same way he dealt with the corrupted beasts back at the market?
It was a battle that was about to turn handsy. Ollie considered just kneeing Kyle, but he knew the lawyers would have a much harder time.
But the whole confrontation stopped at a standstill when Ollie saw Xavier and Luca come out from behind Jax.
“…”
“…”
“!”
Ah, damn!
