Chapter 91: Workers
Luca wasn’t sure why there were so many people in the room and why it looked like Ollie was about to take off.
That was because Ollie was actually preparing to claw the guy’s face, the worst-case scenario.
But none of that happened because Xavier decided to put a stop to this nonsense.
“What the hell was this supposed to be?” Xavier had an idea; after all, Kyle looked like he needed three days of sleep.
“If you guys were planning on fighting it out, do it outside.” He added before staring down the three people.
Ollie knew where they were from, so his reaction was more of fear, but his two subordinates weren’t sure how to react.
Jax kept on looking behind the two people, wondering if there was something he missed the whole time.
Meanwhile, Kyle looked like he was about to pass out.
“Captain! Where were you? Couldn’t you even tell us you were fine? Everyone’s been looking for you!” Kyle aired his grievances, annoyed, and didn’t care much about protocol.
“Last I recalled, I actually sent a message saying exactly that. So, I’m wondering just what the hell is happening here?”
Granted, he did. But that message was too shady. No one could take it seriously.
“Who would even believe that message? You expect us to believe that you’d just wrangle access to your accounts after a corruption attack?”
“Let’s not even talk about this guy! We watched him blow up the mine you were in!” Kyle just sounded like a mother hen now, but he was really about to blow off on anyone.
And Luca felt like he was being stabbed with every offense Kyle was listing.
Xavier noticed because Luca looked like he was about to hide behind him if it were possible.
“What could be so important that you couldn’t spend five minutes to even inform us properly?!” Kyle was steamrolling. Xavier was his best friend and boss, but at the same time, he knew more than anyone how Xavier was in terms of self-preservation. This guy was just as bad as the two shorties.
He was worried that the Captain had just decided to self-detonate or something heroically stupid.
Mind you, Kyle was on the money if not for Luca, who had no plans to succumb to another round of death.
Xavier thought about it and realized this was probably the best way out of this. If there was anything he was sure about, he was sure of these two numbskulls.
“Do you need more workers? Additional hands?” Xavier leaned down to whisper a proposition to Luca, who shuddered at the sudden closeness.
“Will it be safe?” Luca asked hesitantly, as he had never had others in his space before. But they left after realizing they would either need laborers or heavy industrialization.
“I don’t know about the others, but these two are good. And more than anything, free.” Xavier now knew how to deal with this chipmunk.
Anything free is for him. As expected, Luca’s eyes glimmered at the prospect of getting free labor.
“And if anything happens and they do something unforgivable, I promise to get rid of them for you.”
Now, the other people who were listening, even if they didn’t want to, had no choice but to stop.
The room was so small, and with the enhanced hearing of Jax and Kyle, as well as the gossiping ears of Ollie, they couldn’t miss Xavier’s words even if they wanted to.
But Ollie had already heard the threat earlier and understood why it was necessary! In fact, he would’ve volunteered to do a background check on these two, just in case!
Kyle stopped ranting the moment he heard Xavier’s sad attempt at whispering. It was evident that something insane had happened during the test, and he wondered what it was.
On the other hand, Jax saw how these two acted when they were grouped together in the exam and was not surprised to see their Captain so close. As expected, this was going to be the new boss.

Luca thought about it and figured that these two people accompanied Xavier everywhere and had generally been upstanding people.
Jax was pretty good the last time they were together, and he didn’t judge him for liking actual food. Maybe he would even like Luca’s crops and fruits.
He sure as hell would like it.
Jax liked it so much that he was willing to live amongst the trees.
That was his thought after getting over the initial shock of whatever the hell all this was.
If Kyle had previously questioned the world and Xavier about what could have been more critical, now he understood and was clear about the priority level.
He should just eat his words and swallow his pride.
Clearly, the mop had the same idea because Kyle had noticed the smug look on that guy’s face.
Fine, the mop won this round. And the adjutant had to apologize.
Kyle was ready to accept any loss if this was what was at stake. His pride was not going to fix the Empire’s problems, but this would.
“Satisfied? Do you feel it’s justified now?” Xavier asked as he turned around to face his stunned subordinates.
Justified was not going to cut it. As Kyle saw more of the space, he realized that it would be acceptable even if Xavier decided to only come back after a year.
Kyle wanted to ask questions, unsure of what was really happening, but instead of a meeting, they found themselves in front of small containers, repacking items for sale.
If it wasn’t clear earlier, then it was too clear right now.
These were the products sold at the Star Mall store, and five people were repacking the items for sale.
Kyle felt like he was in the presence of too many treasures. The air was so charged with spiritual energy that he was willing to sleep by one of the rocks or even right where he sat.
“Would it still be sold at the same price?” He had to ask because now he’s been exposed to this much, there was no need for any form of testing.
Everything was better than what they had outside. Heck, if he could use a plastic bag to siphon some air, even that could be sold!
“Yeah, it’s a chance for the masses. If the actual price was used, none of them would be able to afford it.” Luca answered as he monitored the slicer.
This time, the goal wasn’t to make a lot of money but to sell to as many people as possible. They didn’t need to sell huge chunks this time but relied on a little bit of variety.
Ideally, they wanted to produce either juices or other processed goods, but they hadn’t tested how they’d hold up after processing. Also, they barely had time to set up a production line, forcing them to wait longer before realizing their plans.
They just didn’t want people to start clamoring, especially since there have been no restocks for about a week.
Luca was actually afraid to look into the shop’s comment section. Thankfully, he didn’t because even he would probably assume the worst about himself.
Killed, kidnapped, tortured, lost—name it, and someone’s probably assumed it, and the hearts of the citizens were really bothered!
Where was their fruit vendor?!
