The Scrap Tamer - Chapter 140
Chapter 140: Attacking The Nest 2
Wave after wave of Voidspawns attacked Reid and Owen and each wave met the same fate,
Getting devoured by Beel.
At this point, they had gotten so far into the cave without having to even lift a finger as Beel did all the work, which it was really excited to.
“More, more, more,” Beel repeated, his voice filled with eager excitement.
The sight reminded Reid of a child sitting at a table, tapping their spoon impatiently while demanding more food.
The only difference was that Beel’s “meal” consisted of Voidspawns vanishing into the abyss of his bottomless stomach.
“Seriously, should I just head back outside and find a tree to sleep in?” Owen asked, crossing his arms. “You two seem to have this handled.”
Before Reid could respond, the cavern trembled again, this time with a deep, growl that reverberated through the walls.
The air grew colder, heavier, and the endless spawning of Voidspawns ceased all at once.
A new presence filled the cavern—a pressure so immense it felt like an invisible force pressing against their chests.
Reid’s grip on his sword tightened. “Well, that’s not ominous at all.”
From the shadows of one of the tunnels, the two spotted a glowing yellow eyes locked onto them.
It slowly stepped out of the shadows, revealing its true form. Unlike the other Voidspawns they had faced in the cave, this one was using a human as a host.
It wore a uniform similar to the one Reid and the others wore, marking it as one of the officers originally sent to clear this place.
As the creature stepped fully into the dim light, Reid and Owen immediately recognized it—the same officer from the video feed they had received.
“Think you can eat this one too, Beel?” Owen asked, keeping his eyes on the approaching figure.
Beel’s usual excitement was absent as it responded, “No… it’s too strong to be dragged into [Black Hole].”
“Great,” Owen let out a long, tired sigh. “Well then, guess I’ll handle this one. You guys go ahead.”
The creature quietly watched as Reid and Beel dashed towards another tunnel before turning back Owen.
“Your friend,” It started “he’s going to die, just as you are.”
Owen just blinked his tired eyes at the voidspawn before saying, “You know, I’ve heard that line so many times, it’s practically a cliché at this point.”
“It’s not a threat,” the voidspawn said “I’m just stating the inevitable.”
“Yeah yeah,” Owen said, his forged beast taking a battle stance “can we get this over with so I canget back to doing something more productive? Like napping?”
The Voidspawn-possessed officer twitched, its hollow eyes narrowing.
“Arrogance,” it hissed. “Foolish. Wasteful. You jest before death.”
Owen cracked his knuckles, his Phantom Hound stepping forward, its glowing eyes fixated on the enemy. “Oh, I’m not joking. I really do want to get this over with.”
The cave suddenly rumbled because of another oppressive aura, this one coming directly from Owen.
Mist began to spill from the ground, curling around Owen like a living thing. The temperature dropped sharply, frost creeping along the cavern walls as Frostbite Mist spread outward.
The Voidspawn took a cautious step back, pupils trembling as it looked at Owen standing before it.
Instead of a normal, weak, pathetic human, it saw a monster, one so terrifying that the voidspawn’s knees immediately went weak.

“What’s the matter?” Owen… No the monster asked “weren’t you saying something about my inevitable death?”
The Voidspawn trembled, its instincts screaming at it to retreat. This wasn’t what it expected. It had seen human soldiers before—weak, predictable, easy prey. But this… this was different.
But its fear was immediately overridden by a command, protect mother.
It slowly stood up, forcing itself to ignore the primal instinct screaming at it to stay still—to remain unnoticed before this monster.
Then, in a final act of defiance, it lunged at Owen, its claws aiming straight for his head.
A grave mistake.
The moment it entered the mist, its fate was sealed. Owen didn’t even move, he didn’t need to.
The mist reacted before the Voidspawn could even get close. [Lethargy Mist] sapped its strength mid-air, its limbs slowing before they could even get close to Owen.
[Frostbite Mist] started creeping up its body, freezing all its limbs and causing them to break off.
That’s when the real horror started.
The creature reopened its eyes, no longer in the cave, but in a vast field surrounded by the mangled corpses of its brethren.
Attached to a host or not, they all lay there dead. The Voidspawn’s breath hitched. It staggered backward, its mind struggling to grasp the scene before it.
Corpses. Endless corpses. Twisted, broken bodies of Voidspawn piled atop one another. Worst of all, the biggest corpse in the field, one that it clearly recognized.
The corpse of their mother.
To them, there were two gods—their father, who stood above all, and their mother, who had created them.
And gods were not supposed to die—so why did their mother’s lifeless corpse lie before them in this field?
“No…no, this is not real,” the Voidspawn denied, “this is an illusion.”
Its instincts once again, screamed at it to run and this time, it obliged. Turning around, it ran as fast as possible.
But no matter how much it ran, it never seemed to be getting any farther from the corpses, in fact, they seemed to be closer than ever.
“Why are you running?” Owen’s terrifying voice rang directly in his ears “weren’t you confident in facing me?”
The Voidspawn stumbled on one of the corpses and fell to the ground, its legs refusing to obey. It clawed at its head, trying to rip itself free from the nightmare, but no matter how hard it struggled, the corpses remained.
“Th..that’s right,” it suddenly came to a realization, “this human body is why I’m weak—why I’m trapped in this illusion!”
It suddenly started shifting, deforming its host in terrifying ways. For the first time since their creation, a Voidspawn willingly abandoned its host.
Right, it was finally free from this pathetic human body….. So why was it still in the illusion.
The corpses suddenly came alive and started approaching its goo-like form, each letting out a chant.
“You failed.”
“You let mother die.”
“You are pathetic.”
The Voidspawn was soon buried under a pile of other Voidspawns, each repeatedly chanting.
_______
While the Voidspawn struggled against the illusions of his domain, Owen and his hound calmly sat watching the spectacle with glowing eyes.
“What do you think, should we put it out of its misery?” He asked his hound.
The forged beast let out a low growl before focusing back on the nightmare the Voidspawn was experiencing.
“You’re right,” Owen said with a grin, his eyes glinting with amusement. “Let’s make it suffer a little longer.”
