The Scrap Tamer - Chapter 153
Chapter 153: Mom’s Cooking?
Commander Ajax nervously watched as the strongest person in the world right now casually stroll into the military base.
And her reason for being here?
“I missed you so much” Vivian said as she squashed Reid in a hug.
Yep, the reason for the entire commotion earlier was just because she missed her son. Ajax couldn’t help but let out a resigned sigh.
Even if the military wanted to, there was nothing they could do against her. And that fact alone was making those old fogeys grip their seats a little tighter.
The only thing Ajax was truly enjoying about her visit? Watching those corrupt bastards squirm in silence, barely daring to breathe until she left.
They were currently hoping, no, praying that Reid doesn’t say anything about the mission he was just sent on because if he did, they knew that this place would be nothing but ash.
That’s why they had Ajax ‘guide’ (follow) them around, to make sure Reid didn’t ‘disclose’ any ‘sensitive’ information.
In other terms, they were afraid of what Vivian would do if Reid told on them.
“Have you had breakfast yet” Vivian asked while they continued walking into the base.
“No Mom, ” Reid said with a sigh “we just woke up.”
The sky was still dark and according to Reid’s watch, it was just past 3 AM.
“Great,” Vivian said with a smile “I can make some for you and your friends.”
‘Oh no’ Reid’s eyes immediately widened. It had been so long since he last tasted what his mom cooked, but he could still remember the taste.
“Um, it’s okay Mom,” Reid said, trying to subtly stop her from entering the kitchen “besides, it’s too early and I don’t think the guys are hungry yet.”
That made her contemplate for a while, trying to come to a decision on whether or not to cook.
But Dean just had to say something.
“I’m hungry” he said.
‘You idiot’ Reid mentally face palmed. His mother was a cooking disaster and Dean just encouraged that disaster to walk into a kitchen.
“We’ll just wait for the canteen to open up then” Reid tried to save the situation again but it didn’t work this time.
“No need,” She said and then turned to Ajax who was leading ahead and asked,
“Do you happen to have an empty kitchen I can use?”
“The mess hall is currently empty, and we’d be honored to have you use it” Ajax answered.
“Perfect” she clasped both hands together before saying “lead the way then, commander.”
“Are you sure that’s a good idea, Mistress?” Ellie asked.
Vivian turned toward Ellie with a warm smile. “Why wouldn’t it be?”
Ellie hesitated. I mean, how do you tell your employer that she’s a bad cook when she’s so enthusiastic about it.
She opened and closed her mouth multiple times, looking for a way to put it but in the end, she came up with nothing.
Ellie just let out a sigh and gave up. She then turned to Reid and mouthed ‘good luck young master.’
Reid just gave her a nod acknowledge her efforts and a small smile.

“Ah, Lisa” Vivian turned to Lisa as they walked towards the mess hall “how’s your mom these days?”
“She’s doing fine” Lisa answered, walking by Vivian’s side.
For moment, Reid thought his mom was going to mention something embarrassing but he guessed not.
Vivian nodded before regarding Damien “and you must be Damien.”
“You’ve grown so much” she said with a chuckle, “are you still my son’s self proclaimed rival?”
This caused a blush to tint Damien’s cheeks, reminding him of the days he used to run behind Reid, issuing non-stop challenges.
Damien quickly cleared his throat, trying to regain some composure as his face flushed deeper.
“I—uh—well, I wouldn’t call it self-proclaimed anymore,” he stammered, trying to shift the focus. “I’ve gotten a lot stronger.”
Vivian chuckled at his answer before replying “that’s good then, at least Reid won’t get a chance to slack off.”
Clara, Marcus and Ethan followed behind quietly, they were too stunned to speak, especially Clara.
Meeting someone from one of the great families was one thing, but actually meeting the first Mythical ranked tamer was on a whole different level.
But that wasn’t the shocking part. The shocking part was how care free she was while interacting.
She didn’t know what to expect from the world’s first Mythic-rank, but it definitely wasn’t what Vivian had just presented
Clara, still in awe, glanced at Marcus and Ethan, both of whom were equally stunned by Vivian’s casual demeanor. It was hard to reconcile the idea of someone so powerful with someone who seemed so normal.
“I… I thought she’d be more… intimidating,” Clara whispered under her breath, her words almost a question to herself.
“I heard that” Vivian said turning to her. She then released just a bit of aura, causing Clara to visibly pale but Vivian quickly retracted it before laughing.
“I’m here to visit my son, not make people intimidated by my presence.” She said
Clara just nodded in understanding and quietly kept walking but under her breath, she couldn’t help but mutter again,
“She’s so cool.”
Despite feeling ‘threatened’ by the pressure Vivian just released, she couldn’t help but similarly feel awe.

The walk to the mess hall took about ten minutes and along the way, Vivian had made sure to know about each of Reid’s friends.
She was pretty surprised learning that Marcus was from a branch of the Wrath family.
“Oh? A Wrath, huh?” Vivian said with an intrigued glint in her eye as she turned to Marcus. “I didn’t expect one of their kin to tag along with my son, does that mean Reid’s stronger.”
A Wrath, whether from the main family or a branch, would never let someone weaker than them to take the lead.
“I don’t really follow the main family’s traditions, ma’am,” Marcus replied, his tone respectful. “But yeah… Reid’s definitely stronger.”
“I see” Vivian nodded, pride evident in her blue eyes, after all, finding out her son was getting stronger only brightened her mood.
