Chapter 158: The Phoenix Vs A Lightning Dragon [1]
Vivian watched in surprise as the dragon swatted the cloaked figure, turning him into paste.
{That’s strange} the phoenix said {if that cloaked figure is the anchor, then why do I sense the portal still open?}
Vivian also found it strange that they could still sense both the anchor and the open rift even though the cloaked figure was just squashed.
There answer soon came when the dragon raised its clawed feet. The flesh paste beneath it started wiggling before turning inky black.
Vivian’s eyes narrowed as the black goo twisted in it self and started taking form. A couple of minutes later, the cloaked figure rose back up completely unscathed.
“Be careful where you swipe that thing,” the cloaked figure said with an annoyed tone. “You almost trapped me in this forsaken place.”
“Then choose your words more carefully, human,” the dragon growled, eyes narrowing. “I serve no one. Your master and I merely have a deal—nothing more.”
“So touchy,” the cloaked figure muttered as he dusted his cloak off, even though he didn’t need to.
Vivian’s watched as the cloaked figure casually return to life with a frown on her face.
‘Is that thing even human’ she thought.
She had never seen a human regenerate after being reduced to paste. Even at her previous peak as a Platinum Rank, her phoenix’s healing abilities couldn’t achieve something so extreme—rebirth being the only exception.
The cloaked figure turned slightly, as if sensing Vivian’s thoughts. Though his face remained hidden beneath the shadow of his hood, she felt his amused gaze land on her.
“Curious, are we?” he said, voice dripping with mockery. “Don’t worry, little phoenix. Everything would be clear enough once you join the master’s side.”
The cloaked figure outstretched his right hand, his palm transformed back to its inky black form.
“Thanks for the offer, but I’m not interested” Vivian replied.
“Is that so?” the cloaked figure said, withdrawing his outstretched hand, his tone sounding almost disappointed “then I suppose we have no choice but to resort to force.”
“Well then,” he turned to the dragon y his side “you can take it from here.”
Before Vivian could react or respond to the figure’s words, a heavy pressure suddenly descended on her shoulders.
The dragon had suddenly released its withheld aura and unlike what Vivian expected, the primal was the same rank as her,
Mythic Rank!
“You see,” the cloaked figure started, “there was a reason we had to get you inside this rift.”
Vivian’s eyes was kept locked on the dragon, lightning clouds started gatherin in the black sky above it.
“Have you ever wondered why, even after a hundred years, the highest attained rank by primals is still Platinum tier?”The cloaked started.
This successfully got Vivian’s attention, but her guard was still up.
“My master is certain there’s some kind of filter placed on your world.” He continued.
“A filter?” Vivian cautiously asked.
“Indeed,” he said, tilting his head. “One that conveniently prevents anything above Platinum-tier from entering our world.”
{…..}
The phoenix seemed to know something about this as noted by Vivian but she chose to say nothing and kept listening to the cloaked figure speak, since the dragon hadn’t attacked first.
“So I had to find a way to get you in here,” the cloaked figure said, voice brimming with smug satisfaction. “And what better way to do that than a primal siege right at your son’s doorstep?”

The flames around Vivian burned brighter as she heard his last words.
The cult was using the fact that she wouldn’t hesitate to act as long as one of her family members were in danger to bait her.
Her anger was evident through the flames but before she could say anything, the phoenix suddenly warned,
{Look out}
A massive bolt of lightning suddenly arced through the air, aiming directly for her. But unlike the first time, she wasn’t caught off guard this time.
She moved out of the attack’s path just in time for the bolt to crash in her previous position, leaving behind a burning crater.
“Hey!” the cloaked figure snapped, turning to the dragon. “I wasn’t done talking.”
“You’re just stalling,” the dragon rumbled. “The longer you delay, the greater the chance she calls for reinforcements.”
“You’re just in a hurry to get the phoenix heart” he muttered.
The dragon’s slit-pupiled eyes narrowed further, “Don’t test me, mortal. I may tolerate your master’s games, but that doesn’t extend to you.”
Vivian used their moment of bantering to launch an attack of her own. Creating a flaming spear, she hurled it at the dragon.
The dragon didn’t get the chance to react before the spear hit, but the attack wasn’t done yet.
As soon as the attack landed, the spear exploded, sending the dragon flying till it crashed into one of the mountains surrounding them.
The shockwave from the explosion rippled through the air, sending arcs of fire and heat tearing across the landscape. Smoke and dust rose into the sky from where the dragon had landed.
Vivian didn’t waste a moment.
She flew towards the mountain where the dragon landed. When she got close enough, she raised a hand in the air and several hundreds of flaming spears formed mid-air, just above her.
With a flick of her wrist, the spears launched themselves towards the hole in the mountain where the dragon was.
Like a never ending barrage, the spears landed one after the other, so much that nothing in that spot could be seen anymore only thick smoke.
The mountain shuddered beneath the relentless onslaught. Flames lit the darkened environment like a miniature sun, each impact of the spears sending tremors through the earth. Debris and molten rock rained down from the upper cliffs, and yet—Vivian didn’t let up.
She continued her relentless barrage until she was sure that the entire mountain was nothing but ash.
Whistle!
The cloaked figure let out an impressed whistle as he watched the destruction done by Vivian’s flames.
“Master was right” it started ” you really are dangerous.”
Vivian didn’t reply, the immediate danger right now was the dragon, and he had to make sure it was completely down before focusing on the ‘anchor’.
She squinted her eyes, trying to see through the thick smoke, checking whether or not the dragon was still alive.
Her answer soon came in the form of a loud, angry roar. The force of the roar caused the smoke to clear up, revealing the aftermath of the attack.
The entire mountain was gone, replaced by nothing but molten rock, and within that magma the dragon stood.
A large part of its scale was missing Its wings were partly tattered, one eye shut, and sparks crackled violently across its wounded body.
Its blood dripped from its black scales until the molten ground, producing a sizzling sound but none of that dulled the fury that now blazed in its lone open eye.
“You…” it growled, its voice distorted,”You dared.”
“I guess your attacks were not enough to end it” the cloaked figure mocked.
A storm cloud suddenly started gathering above it, lightning gathering within.
{Don’t let it —} but it was already too late as a bolt of lightning descended from the clouds and crashed into the dragon itself.
The entire area was covered in a flash of white, causing Vivian to shield her eyes.
The flash was gone as quickly as it came, but in place of a wounded and battered primal was a literal lightning in the shape of a dragon.
The dragon’s body, once solid and massive, had become a being of pure lightning. The pressure it released had also increased, almost as if it had surpassed the mythic rank.
“Ah, so you used that,” the cloaked figure said, tone amused as he leaned on a stone just by his side. “The storm core my master gifted you. I warned him giving that to you was a waste… but I stand corrected.”
The Lightning dragon slowly approached Vivian at first, but it suddenly disappeared from her view.
Relying on her instincts, Vivian created another spear and raised it just in time to block a lightning claw.
The force of the attack sent her barreling backwards mid air and the dragon was not planning on letting up.
Before she could crash into a mountain, the dragon appeared behind her and delivered a devastating tail swipe, enhanced with crackling lightning.
Vivian barely had time to cross her arms in front of her to guard, but even then, the sheer force launched her into a rocky mountain with an ear-splitting boom.
Still unsatisfied, the dragon followed Vivian’s example. With a low roar, the dragon summoned multiple bolts of lightning, endless crashing into the mountain where Vivian landed.
Bolt after bolt crashed into the spot where Vivian landed. The dragon’s plan was simple, turn this pesky ant into charred remains.
It was so angry that it had forgotten its purpose of making a deal with that unbearable human in the first place,
Getting the phoenix’s heart.
