Chapter 166: Holes In The Sky [2]

Soon after Gabriel and Julia arrived, Maximus and his two sons followed after.

Normally, Nathan wouldn’t dream of facing a threat such as this, but he was a lot stronger now.

“I guess the crew’s all here” Gabriel said as they turned to face the collosal primal “is it anything like the one we previously faced?”

Commander Gareth shook his head, “it’s definitely weaker but it’s still strong enough to pose a threat.”

“Then let’s quickly take care of it before something else exits that rift” Maximus said.

At this point, the primal was completely out of the rift, revealing its complete form. The primal looked like a walking mountain, as it completely dwarfed all the buildings.

It looked almost like a certain Kaiju and at the same time and also a dragon hybrid.

It quietly assessed the new arrivals before letting out a challenging roar.

“Yeah yeah, we see you too” Gabriel muttered before turning to to Gareth and asked “so what’s the plan?”

“You and I will take the skies,” Gareth replied “we’ll attack from a higher ground, while Maximus, and his sons engage it on the ground,” Gareth finished, already mounting Ignis.

“Julia, provide mid-range support and keep your eyes on that rift. If anything else comes through—burn it.”

“Got it” Julia said and hopped off Gabriel’s forged beast.

There was a frown on Nathan’s face as Gabriel gave the commander, seemingly unsatisfied with being ordered by someone else.

But before he could move or say anything else, a firm hand gripped his shoulder, keeping him in place.

Nathan turned around, his blue eyes gaining a yellow tint before they quickly reverted back to their normal blue.

Holding his shoulders was Alexander who had a frown on his face. He knew how his brother was, especially after coming back from his week long vacation.

Nathan had somehow changed for the worst and Alexander could see it. At first, Alexander thought it was just due to the fact that he finally broke through to platinum rank.

But that wasn’t quite right, Alexander couldn’t place a finger on it but he knew something had changed in Nathan.

He was a lot more conceited now and there was that look in his eyes that Alexander had seen multiple times when their father looked at Reid… At least in the past.

“Don’t touch me” Nathan said and shrugged off Alex’s hands.

Maximus observed this interaction but chose to say nothing, they had a bigger issue in front of them at the moment.

“Move out!” Commander Gareth barked.

He and Gabriel immediately took to the skies while Julia moved directly towards the primal as she said,

“Don’t fall behind boys”

With that, she summoned her forged beast, a black tiger like forged beast and it immediately split into three, each with Julia riding on it.

“Let’s go” Maximus ordered and immediately summoned his venom spitting Basilisk and rode on it towards the primal.

Alexander followed soon after on his Cerberus leaving behind Nathan who was just standing there with clenched fist but soon unclenched it.

He then summoned his primal, a new one he had gotten after ranking up. It was a completely black liquid like primal.

“It’s not time yet,” Nathan muttered under his breath, placing a hand on the creature’s shifting form. “Just a little more time.. until the assimilation completes.”

With that, he rushed at the primal.

_________

While Gareth and the others faced the primal in the city, Scrappy and Raio faced the same situation but they were instead facing a horde alone.

Half of the Scrapyards was completely destroyed but luckily, the old man had gotten most of the residents evacuated.

He had been facing an endless wave of primals for an hour now and it was taking a toll on him.

Scrappy’s soul power was almost completely used up and Raio, his lightning wolf primal, was moving visibly slower and yet, the waves didn’t seem to be ending anytime soon.

Raio growled beside him, its once-bright fur now dimmed, sparking intermittently as it panted from exhaustion.

The great wolf had deep gashes along its sides.

Scrappy leaned on his forged beast, sweat pouring down his face. “We’re not gonna last much longer like this, bud…”

Raio let out another weak snarl, forcing itself to stand even as its legs trembled.

The battlefield was littered with the bodies of downed primals, their soaked into the cracked ground, the air thick with the stench of death and lightning scorched flesh.

But more kept coming from the rift like ants chasing sugar.

“Let’s try to hold out till everyone gets to safety” he said.

With a bark, Raio created another storm cloud above the primals and lightning started raining on them, scorching every primal it landed on but they still kept coming.

“One more time Raio”

The wolf responded with a pained howl and launched forward, its body wrapped in a blanket of lightning. It tore into the front lines of the incoming horde, jaws crackling as it bit into a massive lizard-like primal, electrocuting it from the inside out.

But the moment Raio landed, another beast pounced on it from the side, slamming it into the rubble with a crash. The wolf let out a muffled whine, blood spattering across the debris.

“Raio!” Scrappy shouted.

He ran forward, vision blurring, raising a jagged piece of scrap metal in one hand.

A primal lunged at him, and Scrappy swung wildly—catching it across the face—but his body was too slow now, his reflexes dulled by fatigue and lack of soul power. Another leapt at him from behind.

Scrappy didn’t have time to turn.

He felt claws pierce into his side, hot pain flaring as he was lifted off the ground and thrown across the battlefield like a ragdoll. He slammed into a broken metal wall of one of the scrapyard houses, coughing up blood as he slid down to the dirt.

His vision darkened. Everything felt distant—the snarls, the tremors, even Raio’s fading growl.

Scrappy felt the cold comfort of death pulling him in, convincing him to just let go, to just give up, after all, there was no winning and the old man almost did when suddenly,

BOOM!

A loud explosion was heard.

The primals didn’t even get the chance to let out a pained roar before they were turning into nothing but floating particles.

A sudden wave of pure, overwhelming pressure swept across the battlefield, crushing the air itself. The primals paused—those that hadn’t already been vaporized in the explosion—hesitating in instinctive fear.

Through his blurred vision, he saw a figure jump down rush towards him but before he could make out the face, he had already blacked out.

______

Elizabeth was floating on her dragon, enjoying the wind hitting her face.

She had decided to take a quick detour to the Scrapyard since the wildland she was deployed to was really close.

Besides, she was going to try and convince old man Scrappy to get back to the city…if that was even possible.

When she got close enough to see the outline of the scrap yards, that’s when she noticed a huge cloud gathering above it and the waves of primals exiting it.

“No!” She muttered in horror and immediately sped her dragon up.

She knew that her grandfather was the only one who was going to face whatever this was since he was the strongest in there and also, the Scrapyards protector.

But no matter how strong he was, he was bound to be overwhelmed.

“Please hold on grandpa” Elizabeth pleaded as her dragon kept going faster and faster.

Within seconds, she was at the Scrapyard and the scene immediately made her heart drop.

Most of the place had been destroyed but that wasn’t the worst part.

The worst part was, laying in a rubble with primals approaching was his grandfather’s forged beast, Raio.

A few meters away from it was her grandmother, battered and bloodied.

Even his metallic arm had been completely ripped off, and there was a huge scar on his head.

Her grandfather looked on the brink of death.

Another wave of hungry primals were approach to finish him off and that’s when Elizabeth snapped.

Without her orders, her dragon opened its mouth, charged a breath and unleashed it at the approaching primals.

The ball of pure destruction landed on the primals approaching both Raio and Scrappy, completely erasing them from existence.

The remaining primals backed up in fear and that’s when she landed.

“Grandpa” she called out but there was no response causing her to almost panic but seeing the slow rise and fall of his chest, she calmed down.

Scrappy was okay, just in dire need of medical attention.

Elizabeth summoned something that looked like a pill from her inventory and fed it to the old man.

“This should help stabilize you” she muttered.

What she gave him was a healing pill of some sorts, made from the Axolotl primal’s essence.

But instead of full healing,it only dealt with wounds that were considered critical, thereby ensuring the patient lives.

Elizabeth taps the old man’s watch, returning Raio to his inventory to heal before standing up and facing the primals.

At this point, the primals were well over a thousand, spreading out as far as the eyes could see but none dared to move.

They knew by Instinct that Elizabeth and her forged beast was a lot stronger than them, so they hesitated.

But Elizabeth didn’t care about them not moving as she said “I’ll make you wish you never crawled out of whatever hole you came from.”

With that, she disappeared and when she appeared next, there was a bloodied sword in her hand and the heads of over ten primals laying at her feet.

The dragon on the other hand, took to the skies, hitting the back line with its breath and taking out every aerial primal.

Soon enough, the entire scrapyard was filled with nothing but destroyed houses and primal corpses, waves and waves of primal corpses.

Some of the primals even started retreating, the ones that could fly trying to go back into the rifts only to be hit with a breath that turned them into purple particles.

Elizabeth continued cutting the primals down for an amount of time unknown to even her.

All she cared about was making the primals pay for hurting her grandfather.

With every swing of her sword, multiple primal heads fell to the ground. This continued for an hour…maybe more, until there were no primals coming out of the rift.

At this point, Elizabeth was completely covered in primal blood and seas of primal bodies littered the ground around her.

Still, her rage remained unquenched and as if answering her wish, two more beings descended from the portal and slowly landed on the ground.

One looked no different from a human, the only difference being the tail, elf like ears and void black eyes with no whites.

The other just looked like any normal primal that had the ability to stand upright.

Elizabeth could feel the waves of power they emitted, especially the human like one.

While both seemed to be in platinum tier, the human like one seemed a whole lot stronger.

They assessed the battlefield, taking note of the hundreds, possibly thousands of primal corpses littered on the ground before they finally turned to Elizabeth.

The human looking one point a finger, allowing her to notice his claws before he asked “did you do this, with just your pet?”

His voice sounded gentle, almost like someone who didn’t mean any harm but Elizabeth wasn’t one to be fooled.

She could sense the subtle blood lust his eyes contained as he asked the question, so she chose not to answer, only waiting for them to make the first move or leave an opening she could take advantage of.

And that opening soon presented itself when the second figure spoke “YOU INSOLENCE BEING, DIDN’T YOU HEAR THE MASTER’S QUES—”

Before the creature could complete its words, its head suddenly fell from its neck, with Elizabeth standing behind both of them.

She had used a single unguarded moment to dash forward and cleanly cutting off its head before it could react.

“So it really was you,” the human like being said but Elizabeth wasn’t listening.

With another swing, she aimed for the being’s head and the attack seemed to be connecting until her sword got close enough.

The sword couldn’t even land when it suddenly disappeared from Elizabeth’s grasp, not slipped, not destroyed or even taken by the enemy, just completely gone —like a disappearing trick.

“You see,” the being continued in its same gentle voice, as if Elizabeth hadn’t just tried to cut his neck off “that won’t work.”

“That’s because I —” it was suddenly interrupted by a stream of purple flames that enveloped it as Elizabeth jumped out of the way.

The dragon continued its attack for a minute before it stopped, dark smoke rising where the being stood.

“You know, it’s not polite to attack someone while they’re talking” a sound suddenly came from within the smoke.

It cleared up to reveal not a single burnt spot on the beings —cultivate novel like mc’s— clothes.

“T-that’s impossible” Elizabeth muttered with trembling pupils “what are you?”

“Where are my manners?” The being said in the tone of someone who just realized their mistake.

“I am Null, youngest of the seven children of Chaos ” he introduced with a small bow before adding “and you have proven worthy enough to be my bride.”
