Chapter 168: Holes In The Sky [Final]
“What the hell is that thing even made of?”Gabriel couldn’t help but comment.

They have been attacking the collosal primal for an hour now and aside from a few chips and scorched parts of its scales, it didn’t look the slightest bit harmed.

The buildings around them had mostly turned molten due to the primal’s attacks.

Luckily, Gareth’s team had already evacuated the civilians, so none were harmed.

“Keep attacking” Gareth ordered, “don’t let up.”

And so they did.

They attacked the primal from every direction, not giving it a chance to even recover.

But even with all that, they could only chip at the primal’s scales.

Roar!

With a loud roar, the primal charged a blast and unleashed it at the tamers.

“Scatter!” Gareth bellowed.

And the tamers immediately did…well, except Nathan.

“This is getting annoying” Nathan muttered, standing directly in the attack’s path.

“Move!” Maximus screamed but it was too late, the attack struck.

The steam of molten flames engulfed Nathan completely, the ground beneath him vaporizing from the sheer intensity.

Sending smoke everywhere.

Maximus froze, his pupils shrunk. But soon enough the black smoke cleared, revealing a completely unhurt.

There was a large grin on his face and his eyes were completely pale yellow, as the smoke from the attack rose from his skin.

His top was completely burnt off but somehow, his pants survived.

Gabriel blinked. “What… the hell…”

“I haven’t had the chance to try this out yet” Nathan muttered as he pointed a finger at the primal.

At first, nothing happened at first until suddenly the space around his finger starts distorting.

The temperature dropped. Static crackled in the atmosphere.

The tamers instinctively backed away.

When suddenly,

Bang!

A blast shot out from his finger, directly aimed at the primal.

Confident in its scales, the primal watched the attack approaching attack with disdainful eyes, its massive body unmoving.

Then the beam touched it. At first, nothing happened, until,

Bang!

Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".

An explosion occurred where the attack landed, creating a massive hole in the primals chest.

The tamers around him were even more surprised. For one, they had been attacking the primal for almost an hour now but they had been able to only do minimal damage.

And importantly, Nathan was using an ability without his forged beast, something they only thought possible for a mythic ranked.

Maximus stared at his son, lips parted. “Nathan… when did you—?”

But Nathan didn’t answer. He moved again, headed directly for the primal that was now roaring in pain.

This was his chance to prove that he was beneath no one. Nor Alexander, not that failure, not to even Maximus or Vivian.

Seeing him approach, the primal swung it’s tail, hoping to completely crush him but Nathan met the tail head on and swung his fist at it.

Both attacks met, sending shockwaves outwards but without the tamers behind him taking notice, Nathan’s hand transformed into black goo, absorbing the primal’s tail completely.

“Delicious” he muttered in a darker tone as the primal let out a pained roar.

But before, it could recover, Nathan was already using it as a ramp, aiming directly for it’s head.

His hand became red hot as he clenched it into a fist and dropped it on the primal’s head.

Without even getting the chance to let out a pained roar, the primal’s head exploded into a shower of blood.

It’s massive body froze before it slowly started descending to the ground.

Nathan jumped off before the primal’s corpse landed on the ground causing the ground to tremble.

The tamers around looked at him in surprise. He was currently covered in blood but he had a smug look on his face.

This was everything he ever wanted. The undivided attention that came with power. He knew he made the right decision.

“When did you—” Alexander approached him and tried to asked but Nathan cut him off.

“I owe you no explanation” he answered with a glare before walking past him.

“Well whatever it is, the kid just saved the city” Gabriel muttered but Maximus couldn’t help but squint his eyes.

Ever since Nathan returned from his vacation, he had been acting strangely and he knew they had to talk.

But not now.

“So what do we do about the portal?” Julia asked causing them all to turn towards the rift that was still open in the sky.

But as soon as that was said, a crack appeared on the rift’s surface before it broke into multiple smaller shards, dissolving into the air.

“I guess that takes care of that” Gabriel muttered.

They had no idea what happened but as long as the city was put of immediate danger then everything was okay.

Gareth landed his dragon and turned to them before bowing, “thank you for helping out”.

“Hey, don’t start getting touchy on us old man” Gabriel spoke up “besides, this is our city too so of course we’d make sure it’s safe.”

“You’re right” Gareth said with a laugh “but still, thank you.”

With that he left to make sure both his teams and the evacuated civilians were safe.

_______

In a certain wildland, piles of scorched corpse littered the area and more were falling from the sky every second.

Vivian was floating in the skies, making sure every primal that exited was instantly turned into barbecue.

Ellie stood below watching the chaos unfold. On one hand, she was glad that the primals just saved her from that terrifying flight.

But on the other, she was growing worried. Vivian had been fighting for an hour now and the primals seem to be coming with no end.

Suddenly, the next primal stepped through the rift, casting a massive shadow on the ground.

Unlike the others, this one didn’t charge blindly into Vivian’s flames. It floated slowly towards her and without warning, it let out a blast of light.. not flames or plasma, pure lightning.

Luckily, Vivian was fast enough to dodge the attack, causing it to harmlessly float by her.

Though “harmless” was relative. The blast surged past and struck a distant mountain range, instantly vaporizing the peak in a brilliant, silent flash.

Ellie blinked.

“Holy sh—”

Ellie said but quickly cleared her throat, remembering to stay professional.

Vivian didn’t give the primal another chance to launch a second attack as she soon launched herself towards it and with a fist coated in flames, she punched the primal.

The attack sent it flying through the air but before it could recover and stabilize itself, a spear was already approaching it fast.

The spear connected and caused a massive explosion which left nothing but the primal’s scorched head falling to the ground.

“That was disappointing” she muttered.

Ever since she fought against that lightning dragon back in the rift, everything else had felt… underwhelming.

The rush of near-death, the challenge of an equal—maybe even stronger—opponent… that was what made her feel alive. These primals? They were just insects in comparison.

Ellie watched from the ground, shielding her eyes from the afterglow of the blast. The sheer destructive power Vivian wielded was almost terrifying.

And yet, she was barely even trying.

But even with that, the primals kept coming until suddenly the rift in the sky suddenly started cracking before it dissipated into multiple smaller bit like glass.

The skies cleared up and the clouds that had previously gathered around the rift drifted away, allowing the rays of the sun to finally reach the ground after almost two hours.

“That’s strange” Vivian muttered.

{It seems the rift has been erased from existence} the phoenix suddenly spoke up.

“Do you know who did?” Vivian asked.

The phoenix seemed to be hiding a lot from her and whenever she asked, it’ll either go completely silent or tell her she wasn’t ready or something.

{There’s only one being I know of} it answered {but that shouldn’t be possible.}

“Who?” Vivian asked, but she completely expected it when the phoenix chose not to reply.

“Sigh” she let out before turning to Ellie who was still looking up at them “Let’s just go back home”.

With that, she dove back down and carried Ellie, continuing towards the city.

________

Meanwhile, in a continent secluded from the rest of the world, a city so far ahead from the rest of the world in terms of technology lay.

Inside the tallest building, a man with chocolate brown skin with no top, which revealed the tattoos and markings on his body, sat atop a massive throne,

One that fit his stature.

A deep frown graced his face as he watched the holographic screen display by the man bowing before him.

On the other side lay multiple men, with skin tone and markings similar to his, dead.

Some were missing a head, while others looked like a large bite had been taken from their bodies.

“What did this?” The man spoke, the accent evident in in voice.

But so was the power.

The subordinate trembled, eyes darting to the bodies displayed on the screen. His voice was barely above a whisper.

“We don’t know, My King…”

The moment those words left his mouth, the temperature in the room completely dropped, forcing the subordinate’s face to the floor.

“B-but our warriors did leave this behind” trembling, the man managed to let out as his trembling hand tapped his wrist and the hologram changed.

“A three headed dog?” The king muttered as he watched the display before him “I have never seen a beast such as this.”

He then withdrew his aura and turned to the kneeling subordinate “Gather the available warriors, we shall hunt this beast tonight.”
