The Scrap Tamer - Chapter 39
Chapter 39: The Cloaked Figure
Sitting on a bar stool outside the pit and sipping a drink while watching the ongoing Hunt on a TV in the bar, was Elizabeth.
“He is strong,” she said.
Reid had proven himself stronger than normal Tamers when he was able to take down a tamer that was higher ranked than him.
But during that fight, he wasn’t this strong. She didn’t think he was strong enough to slay primals the same rank as him with just a bat.
“But keep at the Reid” she whispered as if he’ll hear her through the TV.
She didn’t expect him to come up with a completely different persona for the Hunt but as evident by the constant chant of his name by the crowd gathered at the rails, they were completely eating it up.
Her order was for him to gain the attention of the Pit master and he was doing much more than that as evidenced by the Pit master’s intense focus on the tablet in his hand.
‘At this point, he should be interested enough to look Reid up’ she thought with a smile ‘Regardless of wether Reid wins or not, the Pit master should still invite us..’

Back in the pit.
“Can’t we just avoid the Gold tier beasts?” Dean tried to convince Reid for the nth time since they started walking towards the beast “We already have enough cores to win.”
He was still not convinced that Reid was strong enough to take down a Gold tier primal even if he did just take down a couple of Silver tier ones with just a bat.
“Don’t worry we’ll be fine” Reid assured and pointed to Rusty “We’ve got this guy after all. But if you’re still worried..”
He summoned Nyx, who was also in his little moth form, from the inventory.
“This guy should be able to make you feel safe enough,” Reid said with a grin as Nyx also flew to rest on his head.
Dean didn’t say anything else but internally ‘Are you freaking kidding me? You expect a rat and a moth to help?’ he was raging.
They kept walking in the direction Dean’s bat spotted the Gold tier beast but when they got there, they were surprised to see someone else fighting it.
“I guess we’re late to the party” Reid said. He truly didn’t expect to meet someone else fighting the primal.
Facing the Gold-tier primal was a cloak figure who, from their structure, Reid could tell was a girl but wasn’t sure since their features was hidden under their cloak.
“From their forged beast, I think they’re Gold-tier” Dean said, analyzing the figure fighting the primal.
The primal was a massive stag like creature with giant horns and blood red eyes. It kept releasing beams from its horn at its attacker who kept dodging.
The cloaked figure had a wyvern like forged-beast and although its movements were restricted due to the trees around, it was quickly countering the Stag’s attacks with its lightning based ones.
“She’s going to lose” Reid suddenly spoke up which surprised Dean but he waited for Reid’s explanation.
“Although the Stag’s attacks are being countered, the cloaked person also doesn’t have the upper hand” he explained “and if you observe carefully, you can notice her movements slowing down meaning she’ll soon run out of energy.”
Dean looked at the ongoing fight again and as Reid said, the cloaked figure’s movements were getting slower.
“And here I thought I was the brains of our team” Dean was impressed by Reid’s analysis.
He thought Reid was the stereotypical all brawns no brains guy but he was proven wrong.
Reid just laughed at his statement and turned around.
“So are you convinced to not fight that thing now?” Dean asked sounding hopeful.

The Gold-tier primal was even more terrifying now that he had seen it and maybe seeing it finally convinced Reid to not fight it.
“Nope” Reid shook his head and sat down on one of the giant roots of the forest trees “I’ll wait right here until she’s done”.
Dean just sighed in resignation and found a root to seat on with his bat resting on his shoulders ‘there really is no convincing this guy, is there? And how is he so sure that there its a she under that cloak?’.
______
‘why am I facing this alone?’ the cloaked figure who was fighting the primal thought. ‘Is it because I don’t want to be seen as weak?’
‘No, that’s not it’ she thought ‘it’s because of him’.
The image of a white haired blue eyed boy flashed in her mind.
“You’ll never catch up if you’re this weak” his words repeating in her mind till this day.
“I’ll show you who’s weak” she resolutely and dodged another beam shot by Stag.
She could feel that her energy draining by the minute but she couldn’t give up or run away.
‘If I give up now, it’ll just prove his words true’
She prepared to dodge another beam attack when the Stag suddenly teleported close to her with its horns aiming at her.
If she wasn’t quick enough to dodge, she would’ve been impaled by them. But that didn’t mean she was unscathed, her cloak was torn off and her cheeks and hands were bleeding after being pierced by its horns.
“F*ck” The torn off cloak revealed a girl with green hair and eyes who looked no older than 18.
Her wyvern, angered, spat a stream of lightning at the stag but it just teleported away causing the lightning to hit the ground.
The Stag reappeared close to her again but this time she wouldn’t be able to dodge the attack so she just closed her eyes waiting for the pain.
A couple of seconds passed but the expected pain didn’t come so she slowly opened her eyes to the back of a white haired boy.
“You know, I never expected to meet you in a place like this” The boy spoke still with his back to her.
The voice, although sounding a bit more mature, was one she could never forget.
“R-Reid?” She called out in a low voice.
“Hello Lisa” The boy turned around with a large smile “we’ll catch up when I take care of this”.
He then started walking towards the confused stag who started looking at him warily.
“It’s my turn now,” Reid said with a grin.
