Chapter 51: Malrath

[Malrath] Evo suddenly commented.

“What?” Reid asked, not understanding what she meant by that.

[Malrath, the dragon of death and destruction] Evo explained and warned [this is going to be a dangerous fight Reid]..

“I know that, it’s a platinum tier primal after all” Reid replied as if Evo was already stating the obvious.

[You don’t get it] she countered [Malrath is unlike any Primal].

“How so?” Reid focused, sensing the seriousness in her voice.

[Born from the primordial dragon of chaos, Malrath is the embodiment of the concepts of death and destruction itself] she explained [wherever it goes death follows].

Reid furrowed his brows “how do you know so much?”.

[I don’t know, all this information was placed in the Codex by our creator] she answered, her tone sounding sincere.

“I see” he answered and raising his head to look at the portal in the sky. Malrath was definitely taking its time “If it’s as powerful as you say, then we’re f*cked”.

[Since the pressure being emitted by it is just at platinum rank then I’m guessing something went wrong with the summoning ritual] Evo assured [Maybe they were only able to summon a single shard of it]

Reid’s eyes bulged in surprise. “If just a shard is at Platinum rank, how strong is the actual dragon?”

[The full form of Malrath is beyond classification. In its prime, it decimated entire planets with ease] She answered.

Elizabeth noticed Reid mumbling to himself so she asked “are you okay?”.

“Not really, I’m trying to mentally prepare myself to face a monster two ranks above me without my forged-beasts” Reid shook his head and looked back at her “so what’s the plan?”.

“Let’s just try to survive” she replied “with all this pressure and light show, grandpa should already be on his way here.”

“Survive against the literal embodiment of death and destruction? Sounds easy enough ” Reid mumbled to himself.

A couple of seconds later Malrath’s full form was revealed.

Unlike the image formed in Reid’s mind after Evo’s description, Malrath was unlike any dragon they had seen before.

It stood upright just like any human and its black scales were arranged like a knight’s armor. On its back were massive black dragon wings and its head which looked like a knight’s helmet had two black horns.

Its body was filled with red glowing lines, all of which converged to its chest where a large red crystal lay. It held a large black sword with the same red lines passing through it.

“W-what the hell is that?” Reid’s pupils shrunk in fear. Even Elizabeth trembled, never before had they seen a primal which stood upright as humans do. But what happened next placed their fear on a whole other level.

“So this is what lay above?” It spoke.

It’s voice was low but unmistakably sounded human and both Elizabeth and Reid standing a couple of kilometers below could clearly hear it speak.

Malrath gaze fell on the city below “Just another planet filled with human pests”.

“I-It talks?” Elizabeth asked, not believing what she was witnessing.

“I would have preferred if my full form was summoned” Malrath continued speaking as it weighed it’s sword “but this much is fine for an unawakened world, let’s prepare this world for Father’s arrival.”

He raised his hand in the air and the dark night sky were immediately tinted red as more red portals opened.

From within came primals of different sizes and ranks. Some stayed floating in the air due to their wings while others fell to the city since they couldn’t fly but none moved, all of them waited for Malrath’s order which soon came.

The summoned primals had one thing in common, they had most of their flesh missing, exposing their bones and making them look like zombies or undead.

“Go forth and announce our arrival to the pests of this world” he ordered “rain death and destruction upon them, prepare this world for Father’s inevitable arrival.”

With Malrath’s command, the primals rushed out to do his bidding as he flew to the tallest building he could see.

He landed on it, watching the city below him. His attention was suddenly drawn towards the sound of a roar and a sudden surge of energy.

“Interesting” Malrath muttered, his voice sounded amused “I thought this world would be boring since the humans were unawakened but I should learn not to underestimate their resourcefulness.”

He summoned a throne and sat on it as he rested his head on his fist with his massive sword leaning on the throne as the enjoyed the unveiling show happening below.

“Entertain me, pests” he said.

Reid and Elizabeth watched as Malrath summoned a massive number of primals before ordering them to attack the city.

“This is F*cking bad” Reid cursed. A humanoid primal who could talk was dangerous enough but summoning other primals placed it on a whole other level.

[Restriction rune discovered, do you want to destroy ] Evo suddenly spoke up, confusing Reid a bit.

“Restriction rune?” He asked, unsure what she meant.

[It’s a rune that allows the user to select a specific category or type of thing and restricts it from entering or existing within a designated location or area] she explained [in this case, the user selected forged beasts to restrict].

“I see” Reid nodded “then can we deactivate it without destroying it?”.

[Yes but it will take a while and I don’t think you guys have that much time] Evo answered.

“Alright then, destroy it” He decided.

[Done] Evo informed.

Reid quickly summoned Rusty, Nyx and Beel from his inventory before turning to Elizabeth “I think the restriction preventing us from summoning them is off”.

Elizabeth nodded and summoned her purple dragon who released a loud roar, flaring its aura.

The roar drew the attention of the primals rampaging in the city and most of them started approaching their location.

They sensed the danger posed by Elizabeth’s forged beast and they decided to take it out in order not to be interrupted when they’re carrying out their master’s order.

“Let’s do this” Elizabeth said as her dragon took to the skies with her on its back “I’ll handle the flying ones, you take care of the ones down here”.

“Sure, leave handling a couple hundred gold rank primals to me” he said in sarcasm but Elizabeth was already far up in the air to hear him so he could only sigh “well buddies, let’s make sure not to die”.

His three forged beasts took their bigger form and teleported him out of the hall.

In just a couple of minutes that they were summoned, the primals had already destroyed a lot of buildings around and a couple of human corpses lay among the rubble.

Reid appeared atop a half-demolished building, the air thick with ash and the acrid smell of destruction.

“Alright, buddies, let’s clean up this mess,” Reid muttered, his grip tightening on the hilt of his blade as the first wave of primals rushed toward them.

The closest primal suddenly exploded, sending blood and chunks of flesh everywhere thanks to Nyx’s skill.

Before the primals could pause and retreat in caution, they were all frozen in place as Reid rushed through them constantly swinging his sword.

When time was resumed, the heads of the primals fell but Reid was confused when he didn’t receive a notification from Evo but before he could ask, he noticed the decapitated primals moving towards them again.

“What the f*ck?” Reid asked.

[These are Malrath’s undead army] Evo explained [without destroying their cores, they just keep rising]

“Damnit” he cursed. But he knew he had to quickly end the primals in front of him since a new wave was quickly approaching.

“Nyx, when you crush them try to destroy their cores too” he informed, since Nyx didn’t crush their cores because it knew that they were important to Reid.

“Beel, can you swallow them whole?” He turned to the newest member of his group.

“Buzz” it affirmed.

“Good, then I need you to eat as many as you can” He said and finally turned to Rusty “You’re responsible for creating opportunities for us and if you see an opportunity to destroy their cores, go for it”.

With a basic plan laid out, they faced the headless primals again. “Let’s try this again”.

Gripping his sword tightly, he rushed towards them, slashing down at the primals. He cut them in half, exposing the cores which he quickly slashed in half.

[You’ve killed Malrath’s undead beast]

The notification finally confirmed Evo’s words.

With a smirk, Reid ordered Rusty to use [Pause] again. He cut through the beasts again and this time, they stayed down for good.

Nyx on the other hand was popping the primals, core and all, like balloons while Beel kept swallowing one primal after the other.

Rusty was blitzing through the primals with Reid, cutting them open and making it easier for Reid to destroy their cores.

A couple of minutes later, all the headless primals were defeated but the fight was far from over.

Lead by a white four armed gorilla with some of its bones exposed, the second wave of monsters approached them.

*Roar*

The gorilla roared at them in challenge.

Reid shook off the blood from his sword and pointed it at the gorilla “come at me”..
