The Scrap Tamer - Chapter 57
Chapter 57: A Dream Of The Past 1
The sun was high in the sky as some rays spilled through the leaves of the forest.
Reid was currently confused at his situation. He remembered blacking out due to exhaustion so how come he was here.
‘Evo?’ he mentally called out but no reply came. He even tried summoning Beel but nothing happened.
“Wait up Reid” a childish voice came from behind him and without even his command, his head turned to the speaker.
He noticed that he wasn’t in control of his body and was merely an observed. He also noticed that he was a lot shorter than normal but everything clicked when he spotted the person who called out to him.
A green haired and eyed girl wearing a skin tight black combat suit walked towards him.
‘A dream?’ he thought.
This was more a memory than a dream and he clearly remembered this day since it was the catalyst for unrestrained Reid to be born.
This was one of the great families annual meet in which they showed off their young geniuses in the name of a friendly competition.
The 12-14 year old geniuses were put in a controlled forest and were expected to hunt down iron tier primals. The one with the highest amount of primals wins a gift from each of the great families.
12 years old Reid was currently taking part in his second competition now and the girl that just called out to him was young Lisa.
“You’re so mean, leaving me behind like that” she complained with a pout when she got close to him.
“This is a competition, were not supposed to help each other out” Reid replied, but he still waited for her to catch up.
“You’re mean” she continued spouting.
Reid just shook his head at her antics and continued forward. He was holding a bloody bat, which he was actively trying to hide it from Lisa, since he didn’t want to freak her out.
He had taken down a few primals so far and that had earned him a few points and also some cuts on his face.
“You’re bleeding” Lisa said and wiped off some of the blood with a piece of cloth she was holding.
“I’m fine” he said “let’s keep moving.”
Reid observed from his own eyes as young Reid took down a few more primals while keeping Lisa safe.
“What do you think of this ring Reid?” Lisa asked while they walked through the forest “it can deploy a shield to protect me and also be used to track me”.
“Cool” Reid’s lackluster reply came as he took a peek at the ring before focusing back on the environment.
“Meanie” she muttered.
Things took a wrong turn when they encountered a shadow type primal. The primal created its own domain, something that should have been impossible at its rank, except if someone else did it and placed the beast there.
To make sure she’s safe, Reid let Lisa hide behind a tree while he faced the primal.
Unknown to them, they were being followed by another kid. The boy waited for Lisa to be alone before they approached.
“If it isn’t the Blackwood family’s princess” the black haired boy spoke when he got close enough.
Startled, Lisa turned to the newly arrived boy and nervously asked “Who are you?”
“I’m Line a branch member of the Vexley family ” the boy introduced himself.
“W-what do you want?” She asked, as her eyes constantly darted in the shadowy part of the forest where Reid was fighting the primal.

“Why don’t you ditch that kid and come with me?” Line said “I can protect you better”.
“No thanks” Lisa politely denied “I prefer waiting for Reid.”
‘and they said she was naive’ Line gritted his teeth in annoyance.
He wasn’t here for the competition, no. He was actually sent by the main family to take out Lisa. The reason was unknown to him but he was taught never to question an order from the main family.
He planned on swiftly completing the mission but the pesky white haired kid was in the way all this while.
“I see” he commented and suddenly blocked his nose and dropped a small bottle on the ground near Lisa.
A weird white smoke rose from the bottle and before she could ask what was happening, she was knocked out when she sniffed in the smoke.
“This should make things easier” he pulled out a dagger and was ready to stab her but the sound of other contestants coming stopped him.
He quickly swung the unconscious Lisa over his shoulders and quickly walked away. He was headed towards a cave a few kilometers away that he spotted while following Reid and Lisa.
Reid walked out of the shadow domain after killing the primal within it. His thoughts were confirmed when the domain didn’t dissipate after the beast was killed.
He was currently limping due to the fight, he also broke an arm so it was just dangling at his side and the other hand dragged his bat behind him.
“Lisa?” He called out when he was a few steps away from the shadowy part of the forest. He expected her to be here but she wasn’t.
“Maybe she left” he said to himself but he spotted the piece of clothes that she used to wipe his blood.
On the cloth lay the vitality ring that Lisa showed him before.
He picked them up and observed. He knew she wouldn’t just carelessly drop these items here, especially the ring except if she actually was in some sort of danger.
He suddenly remembered what she said about the ring being able to find her.
Reid observed the ring but couldn’t figure anything out so he tried putting it on. Immediately he did, his blue eyes glowed and foot marks appeared in the forest.
Reid decided to follow the path created, hoping to find her and also hoping he wasn’t too late.
“Hang in there, Lisa” he muttered ” I’m coming.”
