The Scrap Tamer - Chapter 60
Chapter 60: Breakfast.
“Sit down” Maximus’ order came as he looked at the standing Nathan.
“But Father—” Nathan started, only to snap his lips shut when he saw the look in his father’s eyes.
“I’m sorry”, he apologized and sat back down.
Maximus then turned back to the standing Reid and gestured with his hand towards one of the chairs “please, take a seat.”
The politeness was weird and unexpected but Reid just ignored it and took a seat directly opposite Nathan on the left side of the table.
The chairs on that side of the table were reserved for nonmembers of the Fletcher family so Reid was right to seat there since he was not a part of the family.
“Tell the cooks to serve us breakfast now” Maximus spoke to seemingly no one since Ellie had already left to attend to Vivian and he wouldn’t give that order to any of the people seated on the table with him.
“Right away Master”
A middle aged man who Reid hadn’t noticed earlier spoke up. He seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.
Reid recognized him as the family’s butler who has been working for the Fletcher family since forever.
He also knew that the man wasn’t any ordinary butler, proven by the fact that he went unnoticed until he spoke up.
The butler acted fast and in a few seconds, rows of maids walked into the dining room, each carrying a tray of food which they placed on the table and started serving the three at the table.
Some were surprised seeing Reid at the table but the were professional enough not to let it show on their faces.
They started eating in silence until Maximus spoke up “how have you been?”.
His question made Reid freeze and do a double take, wondering he was the one being asked. But since Maximus’ eyes were on him, he figured he was the one being spoke to.
“What’s this about?” Reid asked, making sure he was as polite as he could afford to be to someone he disliked.
Maximus put down the fork and folded both hands under his chin before saying
“I want you to come back to the family.”
Reid stopped eating and looked at him, before chuckling as if he just heard the funniest joke of his life.
Even Nathan dropped his spoon in shock. He wanted to say something but he held his tongue in fear of his father.
“The great Maximus Fletcher is swallowing his words, what a surprise” Reid laughed “What was it you said? You and you family would never be associated with failures? What happened to those words “.
Maximus sighed to calm himself down. Any other day, Reid’s words would have been nothing but as mere annoyance but today they stabbed at his pride.
“I’m willing to take them back and accept you in the family, for your mother’s sake” Maximus offered again.
“Don’t f*cking use mom as an excuse” Reid slammed his fist on the dining table in anger “you didn’t consider her when you made your decision two years ago and I know f*cking well you’re not considering her now.”
Alexander, having enough of Reid’s Impoliteness, quickly stood up and placed a sword on his neck as he coldly looked down on Reid “you better choose your next words wisely, failure.”
Reid looked at the sword on his neck and up at the weilder. Alexander was the type that didn’t care about anything Reid did.
He didn’t care wether Reid was dead or alive but he also didn’t go out of his way to taunt or remind Reid of how much of a failure he was. He just treated Reid’s existence as unimportant to him.
But like Reid with his mom, Alexander was fiercely protective of their father and he’s not afraid to cut down anyone that showed even the slightest bit of disrespect towards Maximus.
Reid snickered in disdain and continued speaking, unphased by the sword resting on his neck “we both know you’re only doing this because you seen value in me, but my answer is no, if you’ll excuse me”.

Reid pushed the chair back and walked from the table with Alex’s sword still hanging midair.
Alexander wanted to move and cut Reid down but he was stopped by his father. He then sat back down.
“You might not believe me Reid but I watched your mother die today.” He suddenly said causing Reid to stop but before he could say anything else Reid’s murder intent flared.
He turned back to them, his eyes had turned back to their bloody red form.
“What the f*ck do you mean you watched Mom die?” Reid asked, his murderous aura filling the dining room.
Although he and Alex were unaffected, Maximus was pretty impressed by his aura. He focused on Reid’s red eyes with an interested gaze.
Nathan on the other hand wasn’t safe from the aura. He saw the dining room fade and he was suddenly surrounded by a pool of blood.
He looked forward and spotted Reid sitting on a pile of primal corpses with his face covered in shadows and his red eyes ominously glowing.
He was about to lose his mind but he was saved by Alexander who wrapped his aura around him and snapping him out of the illusion.
With a sweat filled face, Nathan looked at Reid in horror. ‘wasn’t I supposed to be stronger than him’ was the only thought that went through his mind.
His little brother had somehow become a monster just like their eldest brother and he was the one getting left behind.
“Malrath killed your mother but she was saved by her forged beast which caused her to be reborn from ashes” Maximus calmly explained.
“And what did you do?” Reid asked, his red eyes still locked with his father’s “why was he still alive when I got there?”.
Maximus didn’t expect the question and he couldn’t form an answer for Reid. Alexander also felt attacked by the question since he was also frozen, unable to do anything to save their mother.
“You flaunt your power all day and call whoever is weaker than your expectations a failure” Reid spoke again as he calmed down. His eyes slowly returned to their normal blue “but you couldn’t even save the woman you claim to love? Doesn’t that make you a bigger failure”.
With those words, Reid left the dining room and walked in a certain direction, hoping to find Ellie.
Maximus was left frozen in his seat. Reid’s words had felt like a dagger plunged through his chest.
Worst of all, he agreed with Reid’s words. Failing to save his wife once and almost losing her again the second time made him the biggest failure, just as Reid said.
“He’s right” Maximus muttered to himself but his two sons at the table heard him clearly.
