Chapter 219: Prelude to the Apocalypse
The girls, despite their shock, agreed, and the three began walking into the city.
It was lively, unsurprisingly.
There were many cafes, and he could even understand the language these people spoke.
He couldn’t find any of the faults the Sun God mentioned, but that was to be expected.
Fanatics don’t usually showcase the fact that they are fanatics.
But in the end, what choice did he have?
Nonetheless, they soon approached some sort of bar and went inside.
There were only a few people sitting around drinking, so Neraxis picked a random table to sit at and went up to the barkeep.
“Hey, could we get some strong stuff for three?” Neraxis asked, and the barkeep merely smiled before nodding.
“Sure, pal, just a second. I need to prepare myself, since my daughter is getting married in a few hours,” the barkeep responded with a soft laugh, making Neraxis’s brows twitch.
“Is that so…” Neraxis trailed off and looked straight into the barkeep’s eyes. “If you had one day to live, what would you do?”
The barkeep froze, giving Neraxis a strange look. “That’s a weird question… But I suppose I would spend it at my daughter’s wedding? It’s the happiest day of her life, so naturally, I would love to be there to witness it.”
With each word, Neraxis’s smile cracked.
However, he didn’t let this affect him.
There were many such situations happening around the globe, and he had to deal with that burden on his own.
[Not on your own, I’m here too,] Evangeline chimed in. [I already said I would be with you through everything you do, so naturally, I will help you annihilate this world.]
But what does this make me? A hired gun? It almost seems like I can’t go a day without killing something or someone. And now, the playing field increased. Neraxis grumbled.
He had gotten so much stronger, but it felt like his options narrowed.
Nonetheless, he had steeled his resolve, and no manner of outside interference would change that.
Neraxis had to destroy a world in order to return to his previous life? So be it.

His eyes widened in shock.
That thing hadn’t moved since the last time he used Dawn of Ruin.
Why now—?
<The Fragment of the Eternal Sin is happy with your decision.>
Lagus. Neraxis’s eyes narrowed.
Before he could begin cussing him out, the barkeep suddenly placed down three pints of alcohol.
“Since it’s a special day, the drinks are on the house,” the barkeep assured with a smile and walked to the back, leaving the stunned Neraxis behind.
Nonetheless, he didn’t stay stunned for long, as he grabbed the pints with his Sun Threads and carried them over to the girls.
He placed them down gently, and the moment he did, Neraxis picked one pint up and downed it in less than a second.

“Were you that thirsty?” Fiora asked with her brow raised. “Tell us what our roles will be, since I already know you’re planning on dealing with everything by yourself.”
“Your roles?” Neraxis tilted his head. “What can you do?”
“I can set up safe fields, I guess? My main skill is barrier creation, and I specialize in creating massive barriers, so I—”
“Your task will be to create barriers around the cities,” Neraxis cut her off, and without giving any room to protest, turned to Liza. “And you?”
“I can use spatial magic,” she replied shyly.
However, that was by far the most useful ability in conquering worlds.
“Can you teleport? Can you scramble communications?” Neraxis asked, his eyes beaming. “Are you able to teleport many people at once, can you—”
“Stop!” Liza stretched her hands forward, her cheeks flushed. “I-I can teleport us, and I can scramble communications too. I used to be a hacker, and a really good one at that.”
For such an anti-social girl, it kind of makes sense, Neraxis nodded to himself, satisfied. “Would you be able to create a communication isolation zone by infusing your mana into Fiora’s barrier?”
“Theoretically… yes,” Liza replied.
With that, the girls began drinking their pints until, finally, they were done.
But since they were, they felt a bit empty.
After all, soon, they would destroy the world, and all the people living in it would die.
However… Neraxis wanted to do one last courtesy.
Standing up, he walked to the barkeep and took a few golden bars, before plopping them down on the counter.
“W-What the…” the barkeep’s eyes widened in shock. “What’s this?”
“A gift, I guess. Make your daughter’s wedding more extravagant,” Neraxis stated with an empty smile as he turned around.
But the barkeep stopped him.
“Wait! Sir, would you like to attend as a guest? I don’t even know how to go about spending such an amount… Should I buy her a car… or—”
“Decide whatever you want, and no, I won’t be attending. I have some business to take care of,” Neraxis politely declined, before turning to the girls and nodding.
The barkeep didn’t try to stop him anymore, and Neraxis finally left the bar alongside the girls.
They walked through the streets silently until eventually reaching some sort of city center.
He could see several trucks blasting music, and even random people performing.
Therefore, this was the perfect spot to begin their plans.
However, Neraxis didn’t do anything, as he merely sat on the sidewalk and looked at the sky.
The girls did the same, as despite their earlier confidence, they were scared.
Even he was shaken. Nonetheless, after a few hours, it finally turned dark—and Neraxis was ready.
I hope their wedding went smoothly, he thought, standing up.
[It’s cute how you deny the fact that you postponed this entire trial just so his daughter could get married,] Evangeline muttered softly. [It’s a nice thing you did, letting them have their last happy moment.]
But it’s also cruel, since there won’t be any more happy moments in less than an hour, Neraxis replied, as he gestured to the girls to stand up.
“Set up the communication-blocking barrier,” he commanded, making the girls flinch.
“A-Already? Can’t we stay here like this for a bit longer?” Liza asked, and he shook his head.
“The more time we waste here, the more attached we’ll become. It’s now or never, and I’m not taking never for an answer,” Neraxis replied, as he tried something he had in mind for a while.
He expanded his mana from his back while also manipulating frost to shape a pair of wings.
Then he neatly connected the insides of those wings with his Sun Threads before attaching them to his back.
Neraxis could feel the sensation as though it was a part of his own body, as he flapped the wings upward and began slightly floating.
It works… he thought with a smile, as he sent one final look toward the girls before flapping his wings a few more times and seemingly standing in the air.
The people below were slightly confused at his antics, and some even called the police, who tried probing him with their mana.
However, they were weak and couldn’t do anything.
Nonetheless, he saw Fiora scramble into a building with Liza, and not even a minute later, a translucent barrier was erected in the distance, expanding slowly.
Finally, it stopped right where the edge of the city was and then materialized.
—Huh? What’s that?
—Why is the sky yellow…?
—Guys! Some people are saying they can’t enter or leave the city anymore!
Neraxis listened to the murmurs in silence before letting out a deep sigh and putting on a detached expression.
Then, he summoned his sword, and with a clean yet powerful slash, cut a piece from the building behind him, causing it to slowly fall toward the people below.
—AHHH!! RUN!!!
—Where are the protectors!?
Protectors? Neraxis raised his brow as his gaze traveled toward an SS-ranked human, who had a scar over his face and a bow drawn right at him.
However, before he could even shoot it, Neraxis used {Aura of the Abyss} to set the man on fire with black flames.
The man tried rolling around to put them out, but it was to no avail.
After all, it was impossible to put them out normally.
Nonetheless, Neraxis focused below, as from here on out, he would no longer hold back.
