Chapter 255: The Immortal Insect?
Naturally, given the slim, short, and flat build, Neraxis assumed it was a guy.
However, he was really starting to doubt himself.
The name Nightshade just came off as a guy-ish name too, and Evangeline wasn’t exactly commenting on the matter either.
But just in case, he decided to make some small talk.
“Hey, I’m not sure why you’re following us, but if you try to kill us again, I’m going to burn you alive,” Neraxis said nicely.
Thankfully, it seemed like Nightshade had decided to finally speak.
“I need that immortality.”
The voice was hidden behind some kind of voice-altering device, but even so, he could finally have a civil conversation.
Probably.
“Nightshade, I’m sure you’ve realized already, but we can kill you in an instant,” Neraxis said plainly.
“Yeah, what he said,” Evangeline added smugly. “I’m sure you have some strange intentions, but this immortality you seek? Why do you even need it?”
Nightshade looked at them for a moment before sighing. “I’m going to die soon.”
“Oh? Who’s going to kill you?” Neraxis asked, puzzled.
“It’s not that. I have a few problems I have yet to deal with,” Nightshade replied flatly. “But you don’t need to know anything about that. All you need to do is die for me.”
“Wow…” Evangeline narrowed her eyes. “You really are a self-centered bitch, aren’t you?”
The moment she finished those words, barely visible Blood Threads appeared, circling all around Nightshade’s limbs, nearly slicing them.
“Why shouldn’t I kill you here? Give me one good reason,” Evangeline asked. “Oh wait, you can’t. There isn’t any good reason.”
With that, Evangeline tightened her grip, and, to no one’s surprise, Neraxis let her kill Nightshade.
Nightshade’s body fell apart, sliced into pieces.
Evangeline merely gathered the blood off the ground and flung it away into the ocean behind them.
“Well, that was pretty uneventful.” Evangeline giggled and came back to him before interlacing her hand with his. “But what now? We lost the tail, and we don’t have to pay for city damage anymore.”
“It’s not like I was going to pay anyway,” Neraxis replied with a shrug. “But yeah, we still have a lot of food to finish.”
Just as those words left his mouth, an axe flew right at him. However, Neraxis simply snatched a french fry that was about to enter Evangeline’s mouth and, infusing it with mana, he hurled it directly at the incoming axe.
Immediately, the axe shattered in two, and the french fry continued flying forward until eventually, it hit its mark.
It was Nightshade. And yet, from just that one french fry, Nightshade’s entire body exploded, sending blood and organs everywhere.
“So uh…” Evangeline inspected her french fries. “We didn’t get drugged, did we?”
“Not sure,” Neraxis replied, but then, all of a sudden, his brow twitched. “Wait, we can’t even get poisoned.”
“Yeah, I know.” Evangeline smiled. “I was just testing you.”
“Ha ha…” Neraxis rolled his eyes and approached what was left of Nightshade’s body.
“So we killed him twice now? Maybe three times if you count that slap earlier,” Neraxis noted. “Interesting…”

He turned to his left, where he could spot Nightshade again, his clothes and everything else remaining the same as the first time Neraxis had seen him.
However, instead of killing him this time, Neraxis ruffled Evangeline’s hair and proceeded to dash toward Nightshade, grabbing him by the neck.
Without wasting even a moment, he took off the mask.
And just as he thought, it wasn’t a man—but a curly, black-haired woman with blue eyes glaring at him with malice.
“You’re pretty cute when you shut up,” Neraxis remarked, trying to get a reaction.
But sadly, Nightshade was quiet—way too quiet.
“So you can also survive being killed, huh? What’s with all the people I meet being immortals?” Neraxis grumbled. “But now I’m very curious why you’re trying to gun for the immortality when you clearly have something similar.”
“Similar? Do you really think this curse is anything like immortality?” Nightshade replied with a scoff as she grabbed his arms, trying to pry his grip open.
But of course, she was unsuccessful.
“What’s the curse exactly?” Neraxis asked. “From what I’m seeing, you’re merely being taken back a few moments before your death. This time, you went a little further back though.”
“I won’t tell you,” Nightshade stated firmly, and with a sigh, Neraxis tightened his grip, breaking her neck.
Soon, her body turned limp and lifeless, so he threw her into a nearby wall and proceeded to use his mana.
Since it was now daylight, he was able to feel basically everything he could ever wish to feel.
Therefore, after a few short moments, he saw an extremely small ember of mana materialize in a nearby alleyway.
Immediately, Neraxis appeared there, and the moment he did, he spotted Nightshade, back and ready to attack him again.
But of course, he didn’t waste time and simply approached her before sending out a simple jab.
Nightshade tried blocking, and she was somewhat successful.
However, following his attack, a solar flare manifested right in front of her face, and before she could even react, it exploded.
Not only was she blinded, but half her face was burned as she dropped to the ground.
And of course, Neraxis merely stomped down, ending her suffering.
Now, he waited patiently, and after a few seconds, he finally witnessed the one thing he was looking for.
Space cracked open, and from that tiny fissure emerged a small, pebble-sized object resembling an insect.
But that insect grew bigger and bigger until eventually, Nightshade was back again.
Yet, she didn’t attempt to attack him this time, merely staring into his purple eyes, which, after he used mana, seemed to turn golden.
“This is a peculiar curse, but I don’t do brownie points. You’ll have to die now,” Neraxis stated and killed her again.
Then again, and again, until finally, he had killed her more than 50 times.
On nearly the 51st kill, Nightshade reappeared, dashed back, and glared at him, her hands trembling—either from pain or fear.
And of course, it seemed like his overly cruel methods were effective.
“F-Fine… I’ll tell you what you want to know.”
