Chapter 297: Figuring Out The Timeline
“Here you are.” Valthor passed him a note detailing all the information he had to know regarding the Obscura.

Sure, this was all a part of the plan, but how exactly were they supposed to win? The Obscura had Delta, and she alone would be enough to deal with the entire Eternal Night organization.

But we’re supposed to attack her now? Yeah… fuck no. Neraxis immediately dismissed the idea.

“Hey, my memory is a bit foggy, so could you tell me something?” Neraxis said, getting Valthor’s attention. “What did I do exactly to make all of my classmates so angry?”

“Pfft…” Valthor held back a laugh. “You didn’t do anything, Neraxis. They just simply couldn’t accept you when you joined the Eternal Night. That’s all.”

Lies. Neraxis sighed.

He didn’t expect to get a straight-up answer, but he wanted at least a tinge of honesty.

Sadly, that wasn’t the case.

“You head out in two minutes. Go take a piss or something,” Valthor said, and began slowly walking through a dim corridor.

The headquarters were plain and seemed like some damp sewage system. However, they were also secure since not many people would ever like to go this far down.

But thanks to the Astral Tower and Valthor himself, Neraxis now knew where to look.

Once I’m done with Eternal Sin and a few other things, I’m blowing this place up, Neraxis thought with a smirk.

It was located in Vandros, right where the Skryder Academy was, so that solved a few issues.

He’d give Seraphina the city of Vandros, and he himself would kill the Eternal Night members.

Nonetheless, he put those thoughts aside for the moment as he had to focus on something else.

And that was the approaching horde of people who were all dressed in black.

“Yo, Neraxis.” One of them waved. “Long time no see. I was transferred to this division a few weeks ago, thought I’d get to meet you but you were MIA.”

“Right…” Neraxis muttered. “Who are you again?”

“Huh? Kyle…? Are you forgetting your best friend again?” he replied with a chuckle.

Yep.

“Sup, how you been?” Neraxis asked with a wide smirk.

“Dude, you should’ve seen that Celina chick. She fucking nuked a city earlier,” Kyle said with amazement. “I feel bad for the person who was there, since it’s basically impossible to survive that.”

“Oh yeah?” Neraxis tilted his head. “Sucks to be that person I guess… but hey, do you think you could fill in some gaps in my memory? I think I hit my head.”

“Not the first time you acted like an idiot, I barely even noticed,” Kyle replied, then turned to the Eternal Night members beside him. “Everyone. Fuck off. I’ve got some talking to do. Meet back in a minute or so.”

With that, the people dispersed, and the only two people present were Neraxis and Kyle.

Therefore, Neraxis began his questioning.

“When did I join the Eternal Night?”

“Who fucking knows?” Kyle chuckled. “I think it was a few days after you beat up those monsters on the TV, so a couple years ago.”

When I came back to this world? Fuck… that’s a very long time ago. Neraxis pondered, and asked the next question.

“What about my family? Are they still alive?”

Kyle’s brows furrowed. “Your family is dead, Neraxis. Don’t you know how Eternal Night works? You must eliminate all past attachments in order to join. And that’s exactly what you did.”

Hearing that, Neraxis froze.

He knew for a fact he would never do something so stupid. However, when he first came back he was in denial for quite some time.

Especially in the legitimacy of his family.

If this timeline’s Neraxis was the same one as the current him, then the Eternal Night likely used his vulnerability against him.

But even then, how could he make such a blunder?

Evangeline was there, and at the time, she was the only thing keeping himself from ending it all.

And yet, for this outcome to happen, that meant he had never gone to the auction and was never recruited to the Obscura.

So that raised the question. Where was Evangeline?

“Say… I didn’t happen to carry around a fancy red sword, did I?” Neraxis asked.

“Can’t say you did,” Kyle replied plainly.

Neraxis’s brows furrowed. “What about when I was fighting those monsters on TV?”

“You used what was on the ground. You were pretty badly injured to be honest. If the headmaster of that shitty academy didn’t come and personally rescue you, then you would’ve died,” Kyle said.

He could once again see the people from earlier approach, which meant that their one minute was up.

However, Neraxis had even more questions now.

He fought the monsters, won. He never went to the auction and was instead recruited by the Eternal Night several days later.

It didn’t take a rocket scientist to realize the single discrepancy.

This was a timeline where instead of accepting Evangeline, he had let the time run out. In turn, her soul died, never to be seen again.

His head began hurting at the logic.

He remembers being skeptical of Evangeline’s logic and he very nearly didn’t accept.

However, he could totally see himself denying her here.

So that brought the question…

If not for Evangeline… this would’ve been my reality?

“Oi.” Kyle snapped his fingers. “Wake the fuck up, yeah? We need to get moving. Those Obscura fuckers have been on our ass for far too long. It’s a blessing we found one of their informants among us, and now he’s going to lead us to the Obscura headquarters.”

“I see…” Neraxis straightened his posture and glanced at the people approaching.

I need to figure some shit out while I’m leading these idiots to their deaths, he thought, and in the very next moment, Valthor reappeared beside them.

In his hand, he was holding Marcus, one of the Veiled Ones of the Obscura.

Then, to everyone’s surprise, Valthor crushed Marcus’s head.

The blood spilled onto the ground, but it soon expanded into some swirly substance which resembled a portal.

“Now, now, everybody. Don’t get cold feet,” Valthor said, turning to them with a smile.

“All preparations are finished. You may go in.”
