Chapter 350: Recurring Tombstones
“Is that really a question, or more like a statement?” Evangeline mused. “Because I feel like you’re not really giving us a choice here.”

A faint smile appeared on Jane’s face as she shook her head. “You’re right. This is not a choice. Either help me, or I’ll leave you here.”

“Wow…” Neraxis sighed. “What a bargain. We’ll help, sure.”

“Great!” Jane’s smile lit up. “Oh, and when you’re done helping me, we’re going to find a way into the temple, okay? I think I know the reason why it never worked out.”

“Is it because you were stupid?” Evangeline asked. “Because checking the tombstones of the undead is the most basic thing in the world. I’m surprised you haven’t done it yet.”

“Well… you can’t really blame me.” Jane scratched her cheek. “Oftentimes, I only acted as the guide. Now I’ll be taking some action, though.”

“And your mana?” Neraxis asked. “Didn’t you mention you had very little? So what if you run out and can no longer teleport us to safety? Or even revive those geezers you mentioned?”

“Oh…” Jane sighed. “Yeah, you’re right…”

Even so, he could tell she wasn’t exactly unaware of that fact.

It was almost like she was hiding something again.

“What is it?” Evangeline asked. “Or should I return to calling you small tits?”

Jane’s brows twitched. “For the record, my tits are bigger than yours. And no, I’m not hiding anything this time. I’m just not sure of my current mana volume, so it’s very hard to estimate.”

Not a lie? Hm. Neraxis nodded in surprise.

Then, they decided to no longer waste any time.

Jane took the lead as she scanned the tombstones, while also getting ready for the approaching horde of zombies.

A sword of light suddenly manifested itself in her grasp, and just as she was about to swing it, Neraxis took it out of her hand.

It was pure mana, so there weren’t any stats. But since his swordsmanship was many times better than Jane’s, he got ready to swing the sword.

But as ironic as it might be, Evangeline suddenly took the sword from his grasp, and before he could even pout, she swung it.

Immediately, an entire column of light manifested itself, engulfing all the zombies ahead. They didn’t have time to react, and after she was finished, the sword simply dissipated.

Or so he thought, but it remained flickering. Almost as if it was being fueled by Evangeline herself.

Then, to his surprise, the light reignited, and without waiting for even a moment, Evangeline swung the sword again, obliterating another line of zombies.

“Uhh…” Neraxis stared at her in shock, and Jane seemed to have the same reaction.

“You can wield light magic?”

“Hm?” Evangeline tilted her head. “No? There was still some light mana left over, so I just lit it up and fired away, you know?”

“That’s not how it works…” Jane muttered. “Light magic can’t just be reignited by anybody. That person must have a light affinity.”

“Evangeline…? Do you think the cathedral might’ve… you know?” Neraxis brought up, causing her brows to furrow.

“I was not experimented on. I was treated like the other kids, but most of the people just didn’t like me. That’s it. I’ve always been a vampire, and I’ve never even shown a trace of wielding light magic. So you two should probably get your eyes checked.”

With those words, she once again relit the light sword, and slashed it toward the zombies, killing all of them in an instant.

Yet as she was about to do it again, Neraxis took the sword from her grasp, and tried doing the same.

He was tied to the Sun, and it was similar to light. However, it didn’t work in the slightest.

“I can’t do it.” Neraxis turned to Evangeline and handed the fragment of the light sword over.

To no one’s surprise, she lit it up in an instant.

“Huh.” Evangeline tilted her head. “I’m honestly just as confused as you are… but hey, look there.”

She pointed at one of the tombstones which had the biggest number of zombies huddled together.

And of course, that was likely where the catalyst that made them keep coming back was located.

So without wasting any more time, Neraxis flapped his wings forward.

Since he couldn’t fly, he used them to propel himself forward faster.

And in an instant, he arrived in front of that tombstone.

Without hesitation, he broke it in two, but even so, he didn’t feel any different.

Or that was what he thought, but once he glanced up, he saw a faint trace of mana travel up from the tombstone he destroyed, and then head into another tombstone.

It seemed like Evangeline had noticed it too, since she soon dashed to the tombstone and destroyed it with the sword of light.

Even after that, the light traveled to yet another tombstone, then another after that.

And after a few more attempts, they all regrouped and came to one simple conclusion.

“We have to destroy this entire graveyard, don’t we?” Evangeline remarked with a sigh. “Personally, I don’t have the strength to do it.”

“Well, me neither, but there’s one person who does have the strength to accomplish such a feat,” Neraxis replied, turning to a particular person in their group. “Isn’t that right, Jane?”

Her brows furrowed. “If I use up all my power now, then I won’t be able to revive—”

“And why are you trying to revive them right away?” Neraxis cut her off. “We can just take a break before moving on to the temple. Or is there something else you forgot to mention?”

Jane looked down. “Well… not really. I just don’t want to stay here for too long. Every moment inside causes my mind to corrode. You two might have a resistance, but for my mana to fully recover, it would take around a few hours… in those few hours of doing nothing, I might lose myself.”

Neraxis listened to her patiently, then let out an exhausted breath.

“So what now?”
