Chapter 355: Plan and 2v1
He knew that killing the Lesser Demon Prince seemed a bit too easy. So easy, in fact, that he failed to understand how it was a level 250 monster.

But since its corpse was lying underneath his feet, Neraxis didn’t understand what was happening.

Such a high-leveled monster being a summon was hard to process. It simply couldn’t be the case.

But as he turned toward Evangeline, he was met with her frown.

“They’re summons, Neraxis,” she remarked. “None of them gave me experience. Not even those shitty rat demons that snuck up on me.”

“But…” Evangeline trailed off, turning to Jane. “She might know something about it.”

Jane tilted her head. “Do I need to remind you this is my first time here as well? How would I know how these demons procreate or spawn each other? I’m just as clueless as you two.”

“Hmm… you lied,” Neraxis pointed out. “Especially the part about you being clueless.”

Her brows twitched. “Okay… I might not be entirely clueless, but it’s not something that would help us here. I can assure you of that much.”

This time around, she wasn’t lying.

Neraxis sighed. “Just tell us what you know.”

“Fine…” Jane wiped the demon blood off her cheek and stepped back.

Neraxis and Evangeline followed, not wanting to attract the attention of the other demons

Finally, she spoke.

“You see, demons came into this realm through a portal. My guess is that the portal is somewhere in this temple,” Jane said with a frown. “But the problem is… I can’t feel it. Usually, those things give off so much energy, you can usually spot them with just a trace of mana, but not this time.”

“Isn’t the portal where the most demons are gathered?” Evangeline commented. “That would make the most logical sense, no?”

“Yes and no,” Jane replied. “I scanned the ground, and the number of demons in that particular area is limited. No new ones are coming in. That would only be the case if they were stationed there. And as you might’ve seen, Neraxis killed their leader.”

He leaned against the wall skeptically. “Did I now? It sure felt like it would come back later. That guy would easily kill any one of us if it didn’t have that single weakness.”

Neraxis had fought demons before, sure, but none of them had any significant feats. Yes, they were strong, and yes, they had some special healing abilities. But none of those demons in the past were as special as this one.

There was also the fact that to kill them, he’d need to destroy their demonic cores. In this case, he only destroyed its heart.

Evangeline snapped her fingers, causing him to regain focus.

“Yeah… I get your frustration and all, but you should understand that we’re all pretty weak here. We could’ve gotten more people to come along with us, but we didn’t. We could’ve even brought the girls from the alternate timeline. But hey, look again, we didn’t.”

She narrowed her eyes. “So before you check out the worst outcome, I want you to realize we wouldn’t have gotten this far by being utterly powerless. We can hold our ground, and we can kill those demons. As for the Sovereign of Pride? I have no clue. But I might be able to deal with him.”

His brows twitched. “What do you mean by that?”

Evangeline tilted her head. “Neraxis… While you are strong in the real world, and even if your powers are going to be the same as the Sovereign of Pride… I hate to tell you this, but your technique isn’t the best.”

“Agreed…” Jane chimed in. “Even from here, I could tell your swordsmanship isn’t that refined. And the blood usage? It was okay, but nowhere near Evangeline’s.”

“So you are telling me to watch and cheer from the sidelines as the one I love fights probably one of the strongest people in the universe?” Neraxis asked, clenching his fists. “You know I can’t do that, right?”

“I want us all to survive, Neraxis,” Evangeline said flatly. “And I want you to look at it from another perspective. How do you think I’ll see the fight?”

She was right. The way he described it, she would be feeling the exact same way.

Because of that, they were currently at a stalemate.

He didn’t want her to go ahead and get herself killed, and neither did she.

Just as a fight was about to break out, Jane coughed, gathering their attention.

“Hey. What if I fight the Sovereign of Pride?”

“What?” Evangeline’s brows furrowed. “With what skills? Corpse explosion? Balls of Light? I’ve not seen you fight, and from what I saw on the 9th floor, you were not exactly that good at fighting either.”

“I agree with Evangeline on this one.” Neraxis nodded. “You fighting that thing is hands down the worst decision here. At least we’d stand a chance.”

Their doubt was clear, and honestly, as much as he wanted to send her like bait to understand the Sovereign of Pride’s strength, he just couldn’t find it in his heart to sacrifice her.

After all, even if they weren’t exactly the best of friends, they had grown pretty close during this journey.

And it seemed like Evangeline felt the same way as she began scolding Jane.

Yet despite all the scolding, Jane remained motionless, listening to their chat with a faint smile.

When Evangeline finally finished scolding her, Jane spoke up.

“I have an offer for you two.”

Neraxis tilted his head. “What is it?”

“If I can beat the two of you, then you’ll let me fight the Sovereign of Pride,” Jane said, causing both of their eyes to widen.

“Seriously…?” Evangeline mumbled, holding back a laugh.

But noticing the fact that Jane was actually serious about this, Evangeline let out a sigh and summoned her red sword before turning to Neraxis.

“Pull it out.”

“Hm? Now?”

“The sword, Neraxis.”

“Oh right…” Neraxis facepalmed and unsheathed his sword, aiming it straight at the confident Jane.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” he asked.

And with a simple nod, Jane agreed.

“Yes. Let’s start in five seconds.”
