The Strongest Curse Master - Chapter 343
Chapter 343: The Dreamlady
“Father, I told you about her. At least a few hundred times. This just confirms it—you never listen to me, you just expect me to do what you want,” Elinor said, throwing her hands up in disbelief.
She ignored her father’s suspicious reaction about the woman visiting her dreams, focusing instead on her outrage that he was acting like this was the first time she had ever mentioned her to him.
“What?” Prince was astonished. Despite what Elinor liked to believe, she was his number one priority. He just didn’t show it, not wanting his affection to put her in danger.
Unable to recall any conversation about a woman visiting Elinor’s dreams, Prince asked in confusion, “When did you tell me about her?”
Seeing Elinor fold her arms and roll her eyes at him in annoyance, he quickly pleaded, “Honey, help Dad recall it, this once, okay?”
Elinor squinted at her father suspiciously because every time he used an endearing term to address her, things usually didn’t go her way. Still, she answered, “Remember, after my fifth birthday, you were in your home office. I rushed in and said, ‘The Dream Lady said curse spells are better and stronger than curse arts.’ But you said she was lying and that I shouldn’t hang out with liars because I would become one too?”
In big families and organizations like the McSuiles, they introduced their children—especially direct descendants—to curse arts very early, even before they awakened as curse masters. It was a way to lay a strong foundation so they wouldn’t struggle after awakening but would instead get well adjusted and progress quickly.
These courses did not involve much practical training, except for body conditioning. Most of the curriculum focused on the theoretical knowledge of curse energy, curse cores, and curselings. However, in Elinor’s case, this period was crucial because she memorized countless tedious characters and spells. By the time she awakened as a curse master, she already possessed enough theoretical knowledge to cast an earth-tier curse spell. Thanks to such an early start combined with her talent and powerful innate curse tool and art, in her twenties, she was able to cast Void-tier curse spells.
A Void-tier curse caster in their twenties was unheard of—even in the World of Curses, it was a monumental achievement. Yes, curse core tier-wise, Elinor was still seriously lacking, but she was capable of cursing Void-tiers to death, and that was what truly mattered. It was enough for her to earn admiration and respect from the geniuses of the World of Curses.
“Yeah, I remember now. But how does ‘Dream Lady’ equate to ‘a mysterious woman who visits my dreams every night to teach me curse spells’?” Prince said, rubbing his temples. “Do you know how many family staff members I had to transfer overseas just because they had the word ‘Dream’ in their code name? I was so frustrated trying to figure out who the hell this Dream Lady you kept mentioning was—but then one day, you suddenly stopped talking about her. I thought I had finally gotten the right one, and over time, I just forgot about it,” Prince revealed, thinking Elinor was mature enough now to handle the truth, though he had clearly overestimated her.
Prince could see that little Elinor had been very attached to the “Dream Lady.” Not wanting his motherless five-year-old to stop trusting him, he never dared to specifically ask her who the Dream Lady she kept mentioning was. Fearing that one day Elinor might put two and two together and start hiding her problems and secrets from him, he decided not to involve her in this. Instead, he planned to make it seem like the family had independently decided to transfer the “Dream Lady” overseas, making it appear as though it had nothing to do with either of them. But he never realized there was more to the story than Elinor had let on.
“So you were the reason why the household staff suddenly started distancing themselves from me?” Elinor asked, her eyes teary and her cheeks puffed up in anger.
“They did what? How dare they?” Prince yelled, pretending this was the first he had heard of it—when, in reality, he had known all along.
He had let it happen to prepare Elinor for the world outside the family’s walls. He had seen too many of his cousins and friends, pampered inside their families’ protection, stumble and fall when faced with the harsh realities outside. He didn’t want his beloved daughter to grow up into one of those buffoons.
“You knew! You put them up to it, didn’t you? Was it part of one of your crazy training plans?” Elinor demanded in shock. She had been around her father long enough to easily recognize his obvious lies—and right now, she knew he was lying.
“I grew up thinking everyone in the family hated me. You know what? It was because of that I doubled down on training in Curse Spells instead of Curse Arts. I didn’t want to disappoint the last person in my life who cared enough to check on me in my dreams every night,” Elinor said bitterly, though it was the truth.
“Wait, you spoke to her? What did she say? She didn’t mention anything about me or your mother, did she?” Prince asked in a panic. But seeing Elinor’s confused expression, he realized he was worrying for nothing. Clearly, what he feared hadn’t happened—otherwise, they would be having an entirely different conversation. He forced himself to calm down; if he didn’t, even Elinor would notice he was hiding something from her.
“I won’t tell you until you explain why you’re acting so weird about this,” Elinor bargained, noticing how her father’s reaction was completely out of character. Normally, nothing could shake him, but just the mention of a woman teaching her curse spells in her dreams was enough to make him break a sweat. She was determined to find out why.
“I’m acting weird? You’re the one acting weird!” Prince shot back. “I can’t believe you chose some unknown woman intruding your dreams over your own father. Just tell me what you two talked about before I get mad,” he said sternly, skillfully steering the conversation back in his favor.
