Chapter 366: New Function Unlocked
“Ow! That hurt!” Ace uttered in pain, sprawled on the dirt. It wasn’t the fall that hurt his durable physique, the result of his recently added stats, but Delores’s slap on the back of his head that sent him flying across the estate.
‘Master, I have something to show you,’ Dame Wasp mentally informed Ace through sense share with great enthusiasm. Ace got to his feet, dusted himself off, and thought the great-grandma he adopted was one crazy broad.
‘Should I take out my phone?’ Ace asked, thinking Dame Wasp would cast whatever she wanted to show him on his phone.
‘No need, just watch the status screen,’ Dame Wasp said, pulling up the status screen. Ace looked at what appeared to be a map from a sonar device, similar to one he’d seen in submarine movies. He wondered if it was glitching, but trusted Dame Wasp. ‘What am I looking at right now?’ he asked.
‘It’s a two-mile radius map of your surroundings with you as the center, pinpointing all the curse signatures in your surroundings. After you enhanced your curse sense using the latent curse-sensing arts, I taught the cursed toy box how to use the data from its newly enhanced curse senses and display it for you. When you activate the map function of the Status Screen, it will automatically use its cursed sense to periodically scan your surroundings and give you the exact map, locating all curse signatures within a two-mile radius of your surroundings. Instead of actively using your curse senses, you can pull up the map on the Status screen, and the toy box will do it for you. Master, isn’t this more efficient and handy?’ Dame Wasp explained, eagerly seeking her master’s praise.
‘That’s awesome, Dame Wasp! That will save me a lot of trouble. Maybe you can use advanced locking and tracking curse arts to further optimize the new map function of the status screen,’ Ace praised Dame Wasp for her initiative and achievement, but also suggested how she could further improve the new map function she had created on his way back to the new Lander house.
‘I am sorry, Master. I hate to say no or that it’s impossible, but to add a lock and tracking feature to the map function, advanced curse art or any other level of curse art will not cut it, unless you innately have the ability to do so. I can only teach the cursed toy box how to apply what it already has. Unless your newly enhanced curse senses can also lock on a curse signature and track it asides from sensing it, I doubt I will ever be able to teach it how to do so, regardless of what level curse arts I use,’ Dame Wasp rejected Ace’s suggestion, explaining why what he was asking wasn’t possible.
‘What if I had a toy summon capable of that?’ Ace asked because, instead of an analog map that he needed a second to read, he preferred a digital one with many functions. But he was happy either way.
‘No, not possible,’ Dame Wasp answered helplessly.
‘Ah, that’s a bummer, but great job, Rose. Don’t let my excessive demands undermine what you have achieved here. I am proud of you,’ Ace said gratefully, knowing that he was starting to sound a tiny bit like one of those ungrateful brats on Christmas morning, complaining about the color of the iPhone his parents bought him instead of being grateful that they bought him the latest iPhone.
Adding a curse-sensing map function to the Status Screen was brilliant on Dame Wasp’s part and a huge deal for Ace; it made his life more convenient. Ace knew this and hoped Dame Wasp also knew this. He prayed his excessive demands to add locking and tracking features to the map function wouldn’t end up undermining Dame Wasp’s achievement and contribution in her mind, especially considering that what Ace asked for was impossible and not a reflection on Dame Wasp’s competence.
‘I feel the same way, Master,’ Dame Wasp said, unable to openly express her pride in how far her Master had come from the naive boy who animated her. They’d been through a lot together, enough for them to develop a sense about each other. This was especially true for Dame Wasp.
‘Damn, there are still too many curse users. I thought they would give up or figure out the truth by now and go home. But it seems it wasn’t just the Samsara Cult that was being run by a bunch of illiterates. Dame Wasp, use the satellites to identify all of these fools and target all their hidden wealth. If they have an offshore account or a crypto wallet, I want it emptied by sunup. These fools won’t wake up until the fire spreads under their beds,’ Ace instructed Dame Wasp to go wild.
As long as they couldn’t prove it, they couldn’t do anything to Ace with Janice and Jason’s faction of the McSuile family protecting him. Besides, he was targeting their illicit funds; if they lost it, who the hell would they complain to—the government? If they were foolish enough to do that, they had another thing coming for them.
‘Are you sure, Master? How about I only target half of them? We wouldn’t want them to find something common to unite against,’ Dame Wasp suggested, to which Ace nodded, adding, ‘Good thinking. Just target thirty-five percent of them. The minority will go unheard but serve as a cautionary tale for the majority. Target those who were keen on advocating for capturing and using me and my family to lure Elder Mitch out of hiding to the others.’
‘Yes, Master. I am on it,’ Dame Wasp got to work. Meanwhile, Ace made it back to the new Lander house to find that the McSuiles had guests: EAD Matthews, Ava, and Trainee Agent Sonia.
“Hey, who let you three inside?” Ace yelled, subtly signaling Dee3 not to take his following words seriously.
“This is a free country, asshole. We can come and go wherever we please. If you got a problem with it, do everyone a favor and kill yourself,” Ava went off as soon as her gaze landed on Ace. She had learned that Ace had only called her to use her against her mother. Today, learning the existence of the ‘World of Curses’ wasn’t the biggest shock to her, but Ace’s betrayal was. She couldn’t believe Ace would use her like that. She blamed herself for being blinded by his attractive exterior and leaving herself open to his ugliness.
